We have a gentleman's rule in our group not to play more than 6 counter 'spells'.
So it needs more...fun. Creatures, damage, etc. Its a pretty effective deck, but look at it - its very slow and takes forever to kill someone, especially when your teammate stalls. Chimeric Egg was put in there to be fun, but its pretty underwhelming due to its unreliability.
Ideally I think I'd like creatures that don't mind playing around Damnation (or Consume the Meek and O-Stone), but I'm open to all ideas.
Also, I'm pretty sure this deck is cursed with mana-clump. It really wants to get up to 6 mana, and too often it does not until late game. I think I have to chalk it up to dumb luck, I'm playing 43% mana sources and solid card draw. Maybe I'm missing something?
We actually play blind, i.e. we don't coordinate decks. It helps to keep the games more balanced. We started playing 2HG way before it was sanctioned and never bothered to fully adopt to the WotC rules because we never had much of a need to. We only refer to them when we can't reach consensus on something.
Yeah, it is kinda brutal. Well brutal maybe isn't the right word. My opponents definitely have a chance and it loses often enough, but its an uphill battle for them to play through all the removal and counter.
Totally understandable. Our group plays pretty heavy removal, especially spot kill. And I'm playing very few creatures. So it is rare that I ever want to cast a Damnation and can't because I'm afraid to kill my teammates creatures. Everyone once in a while there is 1-2 huge bombs on the opposing side vs a bunch of my teammates playing weenies, which is where the Vapors and Recoils help.
The only time its really a dead card is if the Stills start to pop and I'm sitting on mass removal, which generally means we are winning. Plus Standstill generally makes my teammates ok with me having to kill there stuff every now and again.
Here's the stuff that I'm iffy on:
- Tabernacle: This one does seem to interfere with my teammates more than my opponents, at least than I would like.
- Consume the Meek: Good, just not great. I love that it is an instant, but I often have to sit on it for awhile to work it to my (card) advantage.
- Chimeric Egg: Artifacts are pretty common right now, so it doesn't build up nearly as fast as I'd like. I generally get only 1, maybe 2 attacks with it before it dies to O-Stone or the game ends.
- Glen Elendra Archmage: In here for no other reason than I heart her, though its a bit of a plus that persist can survive a Damnation if push comes to shove. Could probably be improved upon.
