MTG Salvation

Hello everyone, I Have a passion for proving my friends wrong. Whenever someone uses a card that we consider not good we compare it to trying to mill an EDH deck. This spurred on a conversation about it and I said it was possible. Someone later in that day gave me a copy of szadek, Lord of secret and said "here's your first card towards the mill EDH"

Obviously i took this as a challenge

so heres what i have come up with so far:


some fun combos that work well with the deck:
1 bloodchief ascension + Mindcrank
they die upon anything hitting their graveyard, which is pretty nice if you ask me =)
and when you add ankh of mishra it really gets the counters going on bloodchief ascension.


but please feel free to let me know what you think or what i should add to make this deck work better =D

The first thing you need to add is a 1 in front of all the card names so the autocarding works.

Suggested Adds
Fireshrieker - gets in 2 hits with your general each time you swing.
Academy Ruins - You've got some important artifacts to recur and it lets you get Nihil Spellbomb and friends back repeatedly.
Trickbind - Stops Eldrazi Titans from triggering when they hit the graveyard which would negate all the milling you did.
Leyline of the Void - Stops Eldrazi Titans from even hitting the graveyard.
Wrexial, the Risen Deep - Should have lots of targets to hit.

Szadek is awful! But, he can work if you tune the deck really well and rely on the strength of UB control to back him up. Mill in my group would be pretty bad because they play a lot of graveyard stuff so I would make sure you run at least 5 cards that kill graveyards. I like Relic of Progenitus, Nihil Spellbomb, Ravenous Trap, Suffer the Past, Bojuka Bog, and Withered Wretch. It sucks having to dedicate that much, but you'll die if you don't.

Then Szadek needs double strike badly. So, add Fireshrieker and Grappling Hook. He hits for 5 during first strike (+5 counters, 10 Power total) and 10 during the normal combat damage phase (+10 counters, 20 Power total). So, 15 cards the first time he swings. If you connect again, then you do 20 and and 40. That usually kills someone.

Next, run stuff like Living Death, Living End, and Twilight's Call... and why is Liliana not on here?! She is amazing in a straight mill deck. Plan B is to beat face with their dead dudes.

Cards like Memory Plunder and Wrexial, the Risen Deep, and Geth, Lord of the Vault are also good because they abuse full graveyards... and Geth mills too!

The absolute best Mill creature though is Oona, Queen of the Fae because the RFGs creatures.

After looking over your list the thing that stands out the most is that you have a lot of 1 shot and weak mill effects. Unless you can take out 20+ cards with a card it's not worth running. You have a very limited amount of time to make it happen and taking down 250+ cards in that time means that you have to play big and somewhat dirty. Use the infinite combos, steal their stuff, and combo off as soon as you can.

(I really want to rebuild my Szadek deck now! I stopped about 2 years ago with it because it was really annoying to people.)

I've been helping a friend build an EDH mill deck for quite a while now, and I'll definitely say that it's a challenge for multiplayer but always seems to make people smile.

Two cards that are standouts from his list are Guiltfeeder and Mesmeric Orb. He also had mild success with Forced Fruition along side a good counter suite, but that's playing with some serious fire. If you could live the dream and have Consecrated Sphinx out at the same time, though... You might want to try running Raven Guild Master, but it tends to get chumped into oblivion.

Keep in mind that your general mills equal to the damage dealt, so you can work on the voltron type angle if you want to. So things like Unstable Mutation or Sword of Kaldra would help a lot.

Edit: given that he is also a vampire Blade of the Bloodchief would be amazing.

I think withered wretch is amazing at stopping eldrazi flat sure they can reshuffle but they won't get the drazi back

When you post a list of cards, you should put a like to the deck like tcgplayer so we can see how much it would cost without looking at one at a time.

Cards that seem like they would be a good backup would include the haunt of hightower and consuming aberration. I have decked many an opponent with aberration and the haunt of hightower just gets huge!
