So I've been looking to build lord windgrace for a while now and I'll be able to start on it later this month so I'm looking to buy the precon and then upgrade it from there. I'm calling this budget because I have most of the more expensive cards already (except for vorinclex voice of hunger) and just about everything else is around $10 or less so I can upgrade overtime rather cheaply for the most part instead of just one giant cash drop from the get go.
The deck is almost entierly green at the moment, so I'm thinking I should probably put in more red and black spells. Please keep suggestions for individual cards under $25 (preferably under $20)
Two things that always help a new thread:
1. Post a few comments about what your deck is trying to accomplish. By this, I don't mean your budget limits, but rather your minor themes and goals. Obviously, Lord Windgrace is mostly about lands and landfall triggers, but if there's something else you want to do, it would help narrow down the suggestions.
2. It's always easier to suggest cuts rather than additions. There are thousands of eligible cards that could easily fit into the 60-some available slots in any commander deck, so I'll go the latter route.
- Gruul Signet, Golgari Signet: Signets are for people who don't have access to more stable green ramp. You got Farseek, which is great, but I'd go a step further with Nature's Lore to hit your duals. Speaking of which...
- Temple of Malady, Temple of Abandon: these should probably be more duals. Both the Amonkhet cycle duals and the BFZ duals are reasonably priced and worth the money.
- Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger: It's a fine card in a vacuum, but how does it fit with the rest of this deck?
- Earthquake: This seems like something that could be easily upgraded without spending much. For one more mana, Starstorm works at instant speed and hits flyers. Blasphemous Act usually only costs one mana. Even Savage Twister hits flyers.
- Journey to Eternity: A lot of stuff has to go right for this to pay off. You need three mana to cast it, you need the target creature to survive the casting, you need a way to make sure the target dies (not exiles or bounces), and you need five more mana to use it after it flips. I'd rather have another Eternal Witness or some other reanimation effect.
Another suggestion would be to add Zendikar Resurgent since it rewards you for ramping hard like you're already doing and draws you cards for creatures.
Finally, having some X spells to take advantage of all your mana would be good. I would recommend Genesis Wave and Genesis Hydra on a quick search.
Okay so here is the updated deck (I'll also be puting into the OP). I decided that in addition to landfall triggers I also want to be about dealing big damage with X spells like commet storm, preferably to as many opponent's as possible, and of course the token sub theme. So basically ramp hard and deal big damage via spells as early as possible to as many people as possible.
Also thank you to everyone who is helping me with these suggestions, they really got me thinking and I think the deck looks much better now. It might take me some time to get the land base together though for some of the more epensive duel lands though).
