Deck History and Summary:
2016 through 2018 i built a mono colored deck of each color in MTG, with the W being a Soldier Tribal Odric, Master Tactician deck, that was pretty fun, considering it was a mono-W deck, that is. I really enjoyed it when i needed a toned down deck for a casual pod, when i was exhausted from more complex decks or for 5 Player Secret Partner matches, where it can do quite some work as you're not revealing who's friend or foe until you swing for lethal. Other than those instances i played it every 3-4 weeks, whereas i played other decks up to 2-3 times a week. When i tried to figure out why i treated it that way i realized it just didn't possess enough unique elements to draw my attention when picking a deck for a round.
So i looked for a fresh mono-W commander and didn't succeed for a while, because most of them are either "solved" or quite boring. I dropped the topic for some time until a friend of mine told me about his old "Eggs" deck and while looking into it my initial thought was to build a Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain deck using similar cards - only to realize that'd be too boring when combined with her. A few weeks later i took another look at W commanders and came to the realization, that Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle was the right Commander for said deck. And off was i to the drawing board...
I really gotta say, this deck project is as fun as could be. It's quite challenging to come up with a viable non-infinite strategy, requires a lot of joyful evaluation and is an utter blast to play.
For the first overhaul i was keen to raise the creature count, tweak the quality of artifacts as well as dropping the lackluster lifegain win con. As a minor tweak i cut all taplands with the exception of the stellar Emeria, the Sky Ruin.
Both Altars and Lotus Petal were problematic, as for my preference of non-infinite builds. The 2 extort creatures didn't help too much setting up Aetherflux Reservoir kills, so i turned to classic beatings instead.
Cutting Eldrazi Displacer has been a shame, since i always wanted to build a deck with it. But as well as with Aetherflux Reservoir, i already have a future deck with that one in mind.
