Deck History and Summary:
I didn't have a (U/B) deck for years, ever since i took apart my Oona, Queen of the Fae Faerie Control deck, but really wanted one. For the longest time nothing really sparked my interest - except Silas Renn, Seeker Adept but i never built that. I always liked Lazav, Dimir Mastermind but disliked the kind of deck you have to build around him, so it was Lazav, the Multifarious that really had me going when he was spoilered. Maralen of the Mornsong without a major downside? Cephalid Inkshrouder as one of the best cards in the deck? Inspired Creatures as a toolbox? He's so unique and durdly, there was no way i wouldn't build him.
Due to his low CMC i don't mind to cast him turn 2 and roll with the Surveil 1. Over the course of the game i normally wheel myself a few times until a solid toolbox in the graveyard is assembled and i'm able to swing for Commander Damage.
Let me know what you think of the deck! I'm always happy to get input.
My main focus for this first update was to cut cute yet unconvincing interactions from the deck. I felt there was need for another board wipe as well as graveyard hate. Ravenous Trap has always been a semi pet card of mine and is even easier to set up with wheel type effects.
Buried Alive looked great in paper, but in practice it did telegraph my next move(s) too much. In the end it fell short, when compared to instant speed discard and Entomb, obviously.
Oh I agree, and it won't happen often. Just the one time in 20 that it does happen without getting disrupted is fun. Then the rest of the table kills you.
For the last few weeks i've been tinkering with protection and filling my graveyard faster. Brain Freeze has been phenomenal, especially when facing stormy decks. Occasionally i got to mill others to death with it as well.
While Ashiok, Dream Render might hose a few of my win cons it destroys graveyard based and tutoring decks. So far the pros outweighed the cons convincingly.

Buried Alive looked great in paper, but in practice it did telegraph my next move(s) too much. In the end it fell short, when compared to instant speed discard and Entomb, obviously.
1.) 20€ for Phyrexian Dreadnought is terribly high for a strength that's usually smaller than say Wight of Precinct Six/Nighthowler/... at a marginal discount mana wise.
2.) Outside of the first few turns play you described Buried Alive is akward mana for usually the one creature you may be missing for lethal swings.
3.) I love assembling finishers. Utilizing Disciple of Deceit, Cephalid Inkshrouder and the likes, edging through Bojuka Bog et al with Nimble Obstructionist, ... so much more rewarding.
Of the 3 2.) is the worst part. You'll never see me disappointed about Entomb, Key to the City or Cephalid Inkshrouder, compared to a late game Buried Alive.
While Ashiok, Dream Render might hose a few of my win cons it destroys graveyard based and tutoring decks. So far the pros outweighed the cons convincingly.
In:
+ Putrid Goblin
+ Treacherous Pit-Dweller
+ Brain Freeze
+ Ashiok, Dream Render
Out:
- Crypt Rats
- Darksteel Myr
- Muddle the Mixture
- Ravenous Trap
I'd like to add Lesser Masticore to the deck soon as well, but didn't pull it yet. Mischievous Poltergeist is most likely to get cut for it once i do.
