Above is my currently mono coloured samurai tribal deck, I love the idea of having samurai on the board getting bigger when they block or are blocked, but I've never managed to win with them, and from what I can see from other similar threads on them, they're not considered to be that strong. However, there hasn't been a recent discussion about them that I can see, so I was wondering if there has been any new cards released that could actually make the samurai even slightly competitive?
Currently I have the deck as mono white, but did have it as red/white with Iroas, God of Victory as the commander, so I do have some of the red samurai to add in. I have also seen Saskia the Unyielding as a commander option, which would open up ramp from green and tutoring/removal from black.
I'm not looking to make it tournament competitive, just stronger to actually hold their own on the board and pull out a win once in a while. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I would love to be able to field this deck knowing it has a chance, rather than just hoping I get lucky with it.
Saskia makes any aggressive deck better. And you'll get cool samurai like Hand of Cruelty and some more graveyard recursion.
White alone is hard but can work, I'll try and take a more in-depth look at your current list when I get off work tonight.
I like the Saskia the Unyielding approach. You have access to all samurai (apart from changelings samurai are in the Mardu color pie), plus green to ramp. That and Saskia cares about combat which is good for samurai. As reltastic mentions, Mirror Entity would be great for this, but with Saskia as your commander you can also add Conspiracy.

The best lords for samurai are in white and red (if they can be called that), the best samurai are in white, black, and a little bit green (isao, enlightened bushi is pretty solid in mye eyes). More importantly, they need a freaking ridiculous amount of ramp because of just how badly overcosted they are in general. I have to say this points to the saskia approach just because of the ramp and the creature tutors, black non withstanding. Failing that, a creature that would be a flavorful and functional add would be masako the humorless. Yes, it is not a samurai, but it does allow you to attack and block constantly sans vigilance. You might as well stick to red's combat forcing and enjoy some of the strange synergies. For example, masako the humorless, takeno, samurai general, and fumiko the lowblood entertains me greatly.
I play a Samurai tribal, that does also lean hard on an equipment sub-theme, as Sumurai doesn't have enough to hold up on it's own. Godo, Bandit Warlord plays an important role.
I play Samut, Voice of Dissent as the commander to get the white and red colors. Green does not play much of a role.
One day we will get a Samurai red/white legendary creature.

Anybody else hoping we return to Kamigawa after Dominaria? Getting some new ninja and samurai would help these kind of tribes.
