You like to remove cards from play only for them to return afterwards
Having options to get out of any situation
You Might Not Like This Deck If
You like to just turn things sideways
You hate making yourself a target
You prefer spells over creatures
Why Roon?
Short answer: Why not?
Longer answer: I liked the new commander set they released but it seemed like everyone was making the same decks from the main commanders. I didn't know anyone who was making Roon so I decided to try it out. And try it out I did. Roon is amazing at controlling the board with bounce and denial effects. With the right cards there is nothing he can't get out of.
"Swords? No. Path? Nope. Vindicate? I don't think so"
How to Roon
Step 1: Grab your dorks
First off you should ramp into roon as quick as possible. Birds of paradise, Bloom tender, Somberwald sage are all excellent and if you're lucky you can get a turn two roon.
Step 2: Abuse
Depending on what you have in your hand you can start abusing some ETB's. If you have something to protect roon Saffi eriksdotter or Sylvan safekeeper I suggest getting them out first. In some cases you can ramp with Farhaven elf or Wood elves but it really depends on what creatures you have at that point. If you have truly devastating creatures we can go to step four
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Prophet
As soon as you can tutor for a creature drop prophet of kruphix. Now the fun begins. Every turn you can bounce cards to generate advantage Eternal witness or archaeomancer mean you can reuse that search to get Prime speaker zegena and start drawing your deck. And it's fairly hard to stop you now.
Birthing pod+3 drop/Venser, shaper savant
Pod into venser. Bounce a threat or land. End of opponents turn if you have roon or a way to bounce him do it again.
Next, pod venser into Karmic guide which brings back venser. End of opponents turn bounce Venser if need be
Next turn, karmic guide dies and you pod venser into Body doubleas a karmic guide which gets back karmic guide. Repeat past step
Next turn both karmic guides die. Hopefully you have roon out by now. Pod venser into Reveillark. Bounce it to get back venser and body double as whatever you see fit.
Repeat with Brutalizer exarch if you're heartless (Do it)
WORLDPURGE
Before I switched to Cataclysm one card I get questioned on the most is Worldpurge. Why would you ever want to essentially restart the game? And when I blink out Venser, the Sojourner with his own ability to worldpurge they quickly see how this card can change the tide of the game. Ghostway,Parallax wave,Fiend hunter, Detention sphere,Thragtusk, and Revallark all offer huge bonuses from this card.
Not to mention. You still have your turn, play a land -> mana crypt -> Mana vault -> Bloom tender and rack up the quick mana.
There is nothing like exiling your sun titan to a worldpurge. In this deck it reads 8 mana: Own face.
Defense
The deck isn't the fastest but meant to be very resilient and cover all bases, regardless of how many players there are.
Seeborn/Prophet + Roon
With Glen Elendra means you can counter any threat
Mistmeadow witch you can bounce roon as well as other cards
Sylvan safekeeper keeps your creatures safe from spot removal
Saffi allows you to keep relevant creatures regardless of wipes.
A good defense in this deck almost promises victory
Hey guys so I've actually moved on from commander on to 60 card decks so I don't have any commander decks.
Anyway I've started my own gameplay channel in which I play games (Magic also)
Hi there, just a few things I would note for your deck:
In my testing, the situational flickers ended up being dead weight more often than not. Ghostway and Ghostly Flicker could become something more aggressive, maybe a tuck effect like Oblation or Condemn, or my preference is counter magic (Spell Crumple, Hinder, Rewind being my top choices)
I like your creature lineup. The only thing I might change is to remove some of the mana dorks. I've found this deck gets going quickly, so I generally want to see only 1 or 2 a game. I might consider taking out the ones that have no other added value (Birds of Paradise) or are situational (Somberwald Sage if he's still in there, maybe Bloom Tender). In trying to keep your curve as low as you can, I'd consider Qasali Pridgemage, who has been a great asset for me.
I had Snapcaster Mage in my original list, but he has since been cut. The only issue I really have with him is that your spell count is low, and by the time you've cast a few (most are tutors), you should already been rolling.
I've liked Thassa, God of the Sea, but I've begun to think I don't need her. My deck is quick to produce threats, and my threats are usually lethal (flying, huge numbers, etc) so the unblockable isn't always important. Have you found him vital to your success?
I urge you to try Angel of Serenity - he's awesome at both being an evasive threat, exile problematic creatures, or you can use him to recur lost creatures in the late game.
I would probably add Acidic Slime, since I do not see you having a way to destroy a problematic land outside of Beast Within. He's also tutorable, which is helpful.
Finally, I know you were concerned about card draw. I've found Rhystic Study to work really well, but maybe you could use Fact or Fiction, Sphinx's Revelation, or another source of card draw.

I'm probably going to cut birds and solemn. Bloom tender and somberwald make roon come out much faster, however I've noticed that bloom tender usually only does green unless I have mistmeadow witch on board.

Seems weird that snappy isn't that good in a bounce deck but I can see what you mean. I kinda want to add more blink non-permanents but still don't think that would make snappy good

I haven't used Thassa yet but putting in that final blow in stalled out games may be useful

Yeah I defiantly need to add more draw over edric or the situational cards

I play Roon and a couple things you need for sure ...
1. At least 3 non-creature ways to kill Torpor Orb. Not many decks run this, but this hoser makes our deck so bad, you just need to assume that somebody will have it at some point. Plus theres always good artifacts to kill. I personally use Bant Charm, Oblation and Beast Within for thier versatility.
3. A few cards that I noticed you're missing that have been great for me ... Acidic Slime, Woodfall Primus, Faith's Reward (i use this over Ghostway since it can bring back other goodies). Theres more to this list but these are what Im thinking off the top of my head.
4. If you want some combo potential, adding a sac outlet for Reveillark and Saffi will give you infinite ETB on one thing or another. Simply added 1 Time Warp (a good card on its own) will let you go infinite turns.
I have return to dust beast within for torpor orb although a third way would be good. I've never had an issue with it yet though
Angel of finality looks like the gal for me in this deck
I want to avoid infinite combos with this deck, I stayed away from palinchron for that reason

Hi Dies, I can attest that Oracle of Mul Daya has been great in the deck for me so far, especially regarding ramping and mana fixing issues.
My concern with mul daya is I don't run fetches in the deck (yet) and I'm not sure there are enough shuffle effects for it to use.
I'm sure it will be more useful than edric or snapcaster now though

I like Angel of serenity more than the primordials. Duplicant exiles just as well as lumniate (unlikely that each opponent will have a huge threat) and diluvan misses too much foe me to like him that much. I'd run Terasotdon over primus since you can blink the elephant tokens with any of your blinkers.
I feel like having an early and well protected Roon is far better than having fatty creatures that benefit from blinking. If Roon gets back to me I often set up a pretty much unbreakable well until I Worldpurge for the win or win via throwing small creatures at people.

I use this babe on my deck, what do you thing about her?
Resolute Archangel I just love it. When things gone harsh this babe makes averthung easier, but its often copied or reanimated by oppnents...
I like Thragtusk more. Blinking him over and over after lockout still gives a better effect and gives blockers as well. Even without optimal blinking he still gains life and tokens so I think he's better.
Also, Elfen Lied is amazing.

Have you considered Sower of Temptation? He's an earlier (ie lower on the CMC curve) creature that can take care of problematic creatures, also doubles as a way to push through late-game damage, and scales from early to late game by blinking him to steal a better creature.

I think angel its better because u can restart your life at once. You dont need severals blinks to do it... especially against sorin or setting life effecs...
Life total is usually pretty irrelevant. Gaining 5 life a few times is usually fine enough for me. I've yet to have thragtusk not do enough work to see replacing him. I have enough defense that if my life goes down to ten I can whittle my life back up afterwards without too much worry.
Resto angel is something I want to test in the future. I just think Flickerwhisp is better currently

I've just put a Restoration Angel in my deck, but haven't drawn it yet. Aside from board wipes, I don't see where Flickerwisp is better though (which I've taken out of my list). Board wipes? A mana less? (Resto is one white less)
But I have been trying out Resolute Archangel. While it's a big flashy card at the table when you do a reset, I agree that Thraggy is just better. But I DID replace my Pelakka Wurm with the Archangel.
I like flickerwhisp because it can exile more than creatures. It resets parallax wave exile opponents threats for a turn

-Deadeye navigator- Just boring. Great card but so dull

I think angel its better because u can restart your life at once. You dont need severals blinks to do it... especially against sorin or setting life effecs...
What about Restoration angel?
Resto angel is something I want to test in the future. I just think Flickerwhisp is better currently

But I have been trying out Resolute Archangel. While it's a big flashy card at the table when you do a reset, I agree that Thraggy is just better. But I DID replace my Pelakka Wurm with the Archangel.

I feel like Body double,Karmic guide, and Revallark do the graveyard job better. Mimic vat needs to be on board to be relevant, can't be searched for with the creature tutors and dies to Bane of progress

-Tawnos's coffin- Meh, 7 mana overall of an exile effect that can't be blinked itself. Pass
-Deadeye navigator- Just boring. Great card but so dull
-Opalescence- Just a win more that never really comboed the way I wanted to
-Worldpurge- Sad to see it go but cataclysm is just way better
-Flickerwisp- Resto angel seems better now that I run more creatures
+Restoration angel- Bounces creatures at instant speed
+Cataclysm- Ends games while my guys are being blinked
+Mystical tutor-Searches for all the things I can't normally search for
+Brago, king eternal- Wanting to test him out and finally pulled one
+Craterhoof behemoth- Monster of a finisher. When blinked 5 times a turn he's insane.
