So, I've noticed lately that most of my decks have started skewing towards the competitive. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes I'm in the mood for a more fun, casual style game. So, I've built this deck in response to those feelings. Looking around, it turns out I had a very similar take on this legend that other people did (which is totally OK!), but I thought I'd post my deck as it stands and see what sort of feedback I could get on it. The mana base is OK at the moment, and if I stick with the deck, that will be the first thing I'll work on, probably - but what else could be added in to make the deck play smoothly, but in a fun, casual way?
It's probably worth noting that I'm the type of deckbuilder who absolutely expects to cast my commander a few times each game, if need be. I expect Oros to play a role in this deck, so I've tried to build a deck that features him, but can of course be played without him. There's quite a bit of lifegain built in to the deck, and some aggressive creatures that can be played if need be, plus several of the good removal spells I've got access to. What am I missing? More importantly: what would be really fun to slot into this deck?
I love to see an Oros Deck. I use to run him as a Mardu Control Deck. One card I loved in this deck was Repercussion Basically make everything a Boros Reckoner for their controller. Otherwise I'd say the list could use minor tweeks here and there but otherwise it looks solid.
sunforger is amazing, and it can grab literally all of the instants you run.
I find that in playtesting, I don't have a lot of leftover mana for Sunforger. I do love it, though. I might as well run it until I've proven it doesn't work for me.

Repercussion is exactly the kind of card this deck needs. Thanks!
I'm pretty strongly considering Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant or something similar, so that my creatures will be nice and safe from all the damage I intend to throw around. What do you think?
Man, I looked them up on Amazon and they're like 30 something dollars for the set. I've switched out the guildgates for the bounce lands. I'm not sure yet whether that will be better, but I kind of like them more.
I took out the unconditional tutors that were in (Rune-Scarred Demon and Increasing Ambition) and replaced them with Sunforger and Stonehewer Giant - those feel a little more appropriate for the deck as it's shaping up in my head. Once my store credit goes through, I'll be ordering the shocks, a Smoldering Marsh, and a Sword of Feast and Famine for the deck. Otherwise, it's ready to play - I just need to get some of the group over to give it a few test games.
These tweaks seem pretty good in my eyes. Steelshaper's Gift is a great card.
I think the Swords of X and Y could be good especially if they have protection from Red, White or Black as it will allows your creatures to survive an Oros wipe.
Yeah, it came in yesterday. Thanks! I'm interested in War and Peace, because it fits with the themes of the deck, but it might be a while before I get Fire and Ice or Light and Shadow. this deck is basically third in priority when it comes to getting new cards. Really, I'm not sure Fire and Ice even does a lot that the deck needs.
I'll be trying the deck out on Saturday, hopefully, against a couple other new decks. We have a new player in our group bringing his Avacyn deck (so, not great for me) and an old friend is bringing his new Adamaro deck, which I'm real excited to see in action. I'll report with any interesting outcomes.
Well, I feel like Avacyn herself won't be so much a problem, with Sunforger and the removalspells I'm packing. It's mostly that none of my Oros triggers are going to hit his stuff, which is always a risk with this deck., but kind of a bummer. The other thing is, it's his first EDH deck as he has been out of Magic for a while, so I'm not super interested in trying to really wreck his board state the first time out - and, if I were, I'd take Prossh with me instead.
I'm making an Oros deck as well! Like yours I have a life gain sub theme, but mostly enchantment control. I use Dragon Breath, Dragon Shadow, and Dragon Scales for the deck because I have many 6cc+ creatures. (one of my favorite being Firemane Angel)
I use Mark of Asylum instead of Righteous War, because RW would force black aura (such as Animate Dead) to fall off your white creatures, and vice versa when I use white auras on black creatures. Mark of Asylum also provides protection against noncombat damage regardless of color.
EDIT: Just counted, you have 9 sorceries in the list, not 8.

I'll update the decklist soon. Still trying to figure out what else the deck needs.

I'd recommend getting your hand on just one for your commander and not your whole deck.

I took out the vivid lands and the Ravnica karoo lands. Just too many lands that come in to play tapped, and I prefer the temples.
I also added Steelshaper's Gift, to help find some of the important equipment.

On the Swords topic:
I was meaning primarily War and Peace and Light and shadow as they help with protection and all that.
Other cards I just thought about: Dragon Shadow, Dragon Breath. These should help push Oros into the redzone and allow for more connection with him.
Still, thanks for the suggestions!
