This is my take on the Derevi commander list. I am slowly depleting the precon stuff out and adding more things as I get them. This deck is awesome and leaves your opponents shaking their heads with the goofy combos and nonsense that can happen when this deck goes off. Not to mention never actually casting your general for it's normal cost but rather using it's ability to bring him into the battlefield. I see a lot of lockdown/combo builds and that's all good and fun but I like putting my own personal taste into my decks and I don't really get out and play a bunch of competitive decks at LGS's or the like just usually have one day a week that the guys come by for a night of fun but all the decks are actually pretty competitive just not tier 1. Nevertheless this is a work in progress and I hope you like what you see. I had good success with it and a lot of fun going out of my usual color (Black).
Oh, certainly. EDH is a game of tough decisions, and I wasn't saying that for your deck and meta, they might not be the right choice. But you putting them in a list of "weak cards" made me think you might not be considering their strengths.
Krosan Grip if it gets cut which right now is looking like it will not would be the last card from the list I could change depending on if I can find a card that is better suited for the deck it really doesn't look like for what I want to do that it will actually get cut right now. It is a stellar card the more I look at it to be honest. Thank you for the input!
One of my favorite things to do is to Krosan Grip someone's Sensei's Divining Top because they can't tap it in response to save it. Split Second rules!
I did many changed to the deck after player last night. I felt that a lot of the "blink" strategy wasn't actually useful for the end result of wining the game and took out the weaker cards that just weren't doing much in my play testing. I will hopefully get most of the changes by next Monday that I made to the deck today and try that out. Additions for this segment are:
Played some 3 player last night vs Oloro, Ageless Ascetic (Reanimator) and Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge (Mill/Monsters) first game went great by locking down the board with Stoic Angel the turn after the Jeleva player cast an Army of the Damned a few round after he wasn't able to find an answer and I overpowered him to the point of concession. The second game wasn't in my favor could've been my hand and the fact I had a big target painted on my head anytime I cast anything substantial. I was able to almost general out the Oloro player but both players had too much board presence for me to overcome after losing a majority of my guys. With the removed/added cards it seems I am never drawing a "do nothing" card essentially. The card draw from Edric, Spymaster of Trest has been incredible and Stoic Angel is nothing short of phenomenal!
Seems a bit odd to have such high mana cost cards and Edric. My Deveri deck is based on low mana cost flying creatures.
I think you need to cut the average mana cost of your deck and/or add more ramp. I'd like to see a nice curve so that you can run up the chain..speaking of running up the chain Birthing pod? you can repeatedly sac Deveri and return him... Untapping the Pod.
I really am considering Archetype of imagination and he is even better here giving all your huge creatures flying/unblockable.
Archetype of imagination is decent but a 3/2 flyer for 6 is pretty high cost for little reward. I also play with a group that plays mass board wipes, Massacre WurmCrater Hellion and stuff like that. Yeah I agree that some of the curve is at the higher end like the 10 drop and in time when I get/find card to replace things in my deck that better for lower cost. My mana acceleration has yet to be much of a problem with creatures that fetch mana upon entering the battlefield, being able to un-tap lands, and artifacts I once had 9 mana on turn 4. I am trying to build a more beatdown/semi voltron version of the deck rather than the lock down version. It's been decent thus far and like I said I don't play at LGS's I just play for fun so I don't need to shoot for the most competitive version of the deck. Birthing Pod is another option I do like but have yet to get my hands on the card or play test with it. I think you'd have to have fetch cards though to actively use the Pod when you need it and probably more creatures in the deck. My deck seems to have answers for a lot of problems that hit the board. With the added card draw cards it seems to be more poweful as well obviously getting more cards in my hand helps me for the long run. I am happy with the current list but like always I will try new things and see if they work. I don't find my mana curve to really be too high from what I have played thus far. When Jin-Gitaxias comes in for flash before the player next to me starts their end step it's usually devastating when they have to bury their hand and I still have a slew of cards. I do agree though that there is obviously better cards but it was what I had access to in starting out the deck. Thragtusk is ridiculous in this deck if opponents have no answer and I can blink which happened in one of my games. It will definitely change with time. Thanks for the information!
