Just want some opinions about my new deck which involves Lin Sivvi as the general. It is my take on mono-white after playing Avacyn (which wasn't really fun to play against for my opponents). I'm working on making casual decks of each color, so here we go. Casual means that I'm using both banlists (so no Sol Ring) and it also means that I'm not playing completely broken cards (like Jace, Karn, Drain) or really unfun cards (Stasis). The goal is usually to make a really synergic deck that can actually win when dueling against another casual/social deck but that is also doing great in a multiplayer environment.
I actually have 103 cards with the general, I need to remove 3. I guess you guys will help me find what to cut now.
Some things to keep in mind: Lin really good both for defense and offense. Searching for Mirror Entity can give me a win the turn after if I managed to get some tokens. I decided to make this deck more of a artifact-equipment deck, because that is probably in white that an equipment package shines the best with so many artifact tutors. Good Swords and I know people won't like Quietus Spike that much but if you think about it, it is kinda slow against the usual deck, but really good against Oloro. It's not that broken.
Distortion Lens makes the 2 little Bringer dudes really better, and what's good about them? Reusability. Sac 'em to exile your opponent's creature, then pay 3 to put the Bringer back in your library from the graveyard thanks to Lin Sivvi's second ability, and finally, pay 3 again to put it back into play. Haste helps a bit there and that's why Greaves and Boots are there. Changeling Hero is another sweet target that helps Lin Sivvi dodges any mass/targeted removal.
About ramp, artifacts have a lot, I know I do play a lot and could remove 3 of them but I'm not sure which one, and I have to say I feel pretty good about having tons of mana. Mirror Entity needs a lot, and Martial Coup, WSZ and Decree of Justice also like having a lot of mana.
Oblation and Unexpectedly Absent deal with almost anything and I play 8 board wipes, which I feel pretty comfortable with (none of them should affect my artifacts too much if I don't want to). Oblation is also good with Bound in Silence: draw 2 and put it back into play with Lin Sivvi. This aura is really 5-stars in this deck, dodging hexproof/shroud if you get it from your deck because it doesn't target when you don't cast if from your hand.
Anyway, let me know what you think and what you would remove. If you have any other suggestions of cards that I should add, feel free to comment! Thank you.
My own rules when building a Commander deck:
1) Underrated general that I can build around but the deck must work without him/her too.
2) Every card must be legal in both banlists.
3) No infinite combo that could win (and ruin) instantly a multiplayer game.
4) Synergy at all costs; stay on theme, avoid goodstuff.
Khalni Gem is usually worse than Sisay's Ring, the only situation where it is good is with Scroll Rack. This one has to go. Dreamstone Hedron is also too slow as a mana rock, not needed in this deck. The card draw ability was more useful and we can get more use of Skullclamp, Land Tax, Scroll Rack, SoFaI or Staff of Nin if we just need to draw cards (and I'm not even mentionning that Lin Sivvi is card advantage by himself). Also, Mentor of the Meek would be better in that spot if I really wanted the extra cards, but I don't even think it deserves a spot either (but it really could). The reason why I don't like Mentor that much is because I want to be free to use all my boardwipes without worrying about losing too much. All my rebels can be recurred really easily.
Argivian Find is another card I'm really not sure about. I would like to have some artifact recursion in the deck but it looks so weak, it's only one use. The best recursion for now is obviously Sun Titan but if it gets exiled and I can't find Argivian, there is not a whole lot I can do to get back that Quietus Spike or Sword of Fire and Ice. I guess there is Argivian Archaeologist that I could play (but it's too slow) and I have Trading Post which is obviously the best card for artifact recursion (especially in a token deck). Remember the Fallen is a little bit more versatile.
Well, I guess it's not that bad. Could probably remove Argivian Find actually. I thought about Sword of Light and Shadow but doesn't have a lot of creatures (beyond Stoneforge and Titan) to recur that my general can't target.
Because of the Bringer, I felt like Path to Exile and Swords to Plowshare weren't as needed. Decided to still keep Sword for a few reasons. First, I think exiling a creature for one mana is still good. Path to Exile gives a land while Swords give life. I don't care about my opponent gaining life. But I could care about myself gaining 20 life by using Swords with Mirror Entity. So this is why I play Swords to Plowshare but not Path to Exile, the redundant effect isn't as much needed as with other white decks.
