The other day I was browsing through some decklists and found a deck that utilized Proteus Staff and the decks commander (the only creature in the deck) for some awesome tech.
You use Proteus Staff on your commander, it gets sent to the bottom of your deck, you reveal cards from the top of your library until you hit a creature (your only creature being your commander sitting on the bottom), you hit your commander and it is returned to the field, then you put cards on the bottom of your library in any order, since you revealed every card in your library this essentially allows you to stack your deck however you please!
I'd like to give this kind of deck a try and when thinking of what commander to use I thought of Sygg, River Cutthroat strictly due to its low cost of 2 and its colors U/B, with black and blue I have access to a large number of tutors so I see no problem in being able to find the staff. ideally I'd want to play sygg turn 1, and proteus staff turn 2, and then tuck sygg with proteus staff turn 3 to stack my deck.
My only problem in making this deck is... I don't know which direction to go with it, my playgroup does not allow infinite combos, which I'm fine with, I'm not a huge fan of them anyways. I'm at a loss in terms of what way this deck would play... I'm really just liking the idea of this one creature U/B deck that stacks itself very quickly every game.
I would go with a storm deck, that way you don't have to go infinite and can still wipe everyone out. I have to say Storm decks get boring real fast normally. Especially if you know how to stack it and will often just be staffing into a win.
Storm and Melek maybe, that way you can actually do something even when your staff is blown up.
Thats particularly hard to do given melek is six mana and staff with activation is also six. Melek has to survive around the table, or you need 9UUR, plus the artifact. I tried it for a while, its pretty difficult and gets old. Id do like the OP suggests and do storm/infinites and have other ways to win without it so it doesnt get boring. My entire melek deck was based around it and it got old fast
Couldn't this work as a token deck? Take a general that includes blue; Black, Blue, White --or-- Black, Blue, Green and stack you deck with non-creature spells that produce creature tokens and go to town stacking your deck with back-up instants and sorceries and such.
Maybe B,U,R so you can duplicate those instants and sorceries.

Took some time to look for viable generals.
BUW Merieke Ri Berit - Gives you the ability to steal your opponent's creatures and destroys them. You can create a great combo if you give her haste.
Zur the enchanter - Allows you to search for cheap enchamtments and is a flyer.
Sydri, Galvanic Genius - allows you make it a artifact heavy deck that create your own lifelink deathtouch artifact creatures.
BUG Not many choices here
The Mimeoplasm - Allows you to exile powerful creatures including eldrazi

What kind of a storm deck do you think I could run in U/B? I've never made a storm deck in EDH so this is a little bit new to me.

Out of all of these I think I like Sydri the most because she allows for a creatureless deck but still has access to creatures (by way of turning artifacts into creatures). I've also tended to avoid artifact heavy decks but have always wanted to make one.
Oona, Queen of the Fae would also be a viable general, despite her higher casting cost she allows me to make more tokens that I could in turn tuck with the staff to re-stack my library. The only reason I'm hesitant to run her is that often times I see Oona decks draw a lot of hate due to her combo-y nature.
This idea is ****ing amazing I'm very very interested I agree on storm as well I mean if you play enough cantrips you could win on turn for very little mana (possibly just the cost of the cantrip using yawg win led gush )
Yep I have decided you want to play U/B fir sure not sure what else. We are going to go for led dark ritual etc load your deck with cantrips and okay the deck like doomsday. I think the most efficacy way might actualy be syg at cmc 2 . You can tutor your staff and drop syg ASAP then next turn lets say your at 5 mana with a cmc 1 cantrip we can yes gush or brainstorm ( with cards in hand or both) or cards like careful study / meditate / ideas unbound for massive draw it's like doomsdaying your entire deck. So you can go like LED into cantrip into yawgwin chaining probe for free in the middle then you just need 3BB to cast ad Nausuam which is a great plan B or A anyway and draw into storm kill perfectly stacked. I don't know that it's worth losing all the creatures in the U/B Nausuam shell but it is ****ing hilarious.

How early do you think I'd be able to pull this off?
This is exciting! I'm glad you see potential in this and agree with the U/B color choice and commander.
I've been having an idea where under the Ad Nauseam you stack like 40 lands (or however many the highest players life total is) and then under that Sickening Dreams.
Draw the lands for free off nauseam and then the Sickening Dreams for two life.
Cast Sickening Dreams discarding all the lands for 40+ damage to everyone (including you! lol).
Turn 4-7 but you can just play lots if rituals and free mana into Tidespout tendrils like you can play a normal storm package but get away with off curve cards like you could use power artifact exsanguinate future top doesn't really mater as long as you have enough free mana to get it down you could pile 20 lands not run to many and pitch cards to mind over matter to drop any combo you want

What is a usual storm package for U/B?
In what order would you stack if off a Proteus Staff?
I've never tried to play storm in EDH before but it seems like fun.
Depends in hand I'm about done with snow removal I uploaded a short 2 minute clip if my last storm game on mtgo I'll be uploading more check out the list just replace green ramp with cheap rocks like chrome mox and signet talisman play more cantrips like my dd pile impulse ideas unbound meditate preordain etc check out the list In my damia thread

is it worth running the off color fetches also?
I watched your storm match on MTGO, that was impressive!
Yes for instance look at my game report for the match one page back I had nothing but lands and a top and I used fetches to craft a game winning hand all by itself. Your list will end up looking like a mash of that and my doomsday list with no green I think. I won't lie it will be difficult to pilot as a novice but once you master it. It's gonna be killer. Like if you want to skype me some time I could help you more I have a pretty good idea of what you want your pile of cards to look like .

Yeah wow, thats really impressive. I take it your an expert at storm/doomsday shenanigans.
I've always loved the idea of Sensei's Divining Top and fetch lands to work around the top of your library.
I'll have to remember my skype account name and password but if I don't I'll just make a new one, would love to talk more about this!
I would suggest Maelstrom Wanderer. He doesn't hit fast, but once you tuck him and reveal, you can cascade until you have everything in your deck in play, you just have to find some kind of Non-Creature win-con.
