Hi everyone, first post here on the forums, and I am looking to reconstruct the Daretti deck from the Commander 2014 product to fit the semi-competitive meta of my current playgroup and to generally improve it with better quality cards and a more focused identity. I am fairly new to MTG, so naturally my deck building skills are far from refined. I'm hoping some of you more knowledgable folks would be able to point me in the right direction to get started with improving my deck list.
My starting list is essentially the red Commander deck as sold in stores, and my goal is to focus the deck towards the strengths of Daretti more so than the alternate commanders, using his ability to bring artifacts in and out of play as a way of gaining advantage through things like Solemn Simulacrum, Ichor Wellspring, Mycosynth Wellspring and the like.
What I'm looking for is advice on cards that would be considered staples in a mono-red/artifacts type deck, particularly those that have interesting ETB/LTB effects that synergise well with the commander.
In addition, I've learned that there are some staples for mono-red in general that I should look to obtain a copy of, things like Wheel of Fortune and Gamble. Any other cards along these lines I should look to include?
Thanks in advance to anyone who has any tips for me, and if I have made any goofs in the way I set up this thread, I apologize, just chock it up to me being new to the forums and not really knowing my way around too well
start with looting effects (deal broker, rummaging goblin), wheel of fortune can be very useful but consider teferi's puzzle box and reforge the soul as alternatives/budget replacements. if you have creatures, skullclamp is banned everywhere else (almost) for a reason.
Daretti in particular can benefit highly of squee, goblin nabob.
i'd wait for Gamble, and go with kuldotha forgemaster instead (i have a feeling that it might be even better in daretti than gamble); codex shredder might be useful too to have some artifact-based recursion.
get aftershock and blasphemous act, and consider some more sweepers as means to protect your general.
consider mana doublers as well, such as gauntlet of power, gauntlet of might (a bit out of budget, i wish i had one myself).
those are the first things to come to mind; i'm glad to help a fellow mono-r commander player.
