Omnath, Locus of Mana was one of the cards I absolutely loved when I started playing Magic during the release of Rise of Eldrazi. I build a G/W Standard deck around Omnath and Wolfbriar Elemental. It was so much fun to play, so I thought to myself "Why not make a commander deck with one of your favorite Nostalgia creatures" and I did. It's not a terrible deck but I'd definitely like for it to be better. I'd like any feedback that'll make this deck better.
It's a good looking deck, I just have a few notes:
- Rofellos is 100% banned in Commander now. I know, I'm sad too.
- Find yourself a Greater Good. It's crazy good in Omnath.
- Omnath without Genesis Wave? Huuuuuuuuuuuh????
I didn't realize Rofellos was banned, how unfortunate. Thanks for reminding me of Genesis Wave's existence. I completely forgot about that card. I'll play with Greater Good one of these days, I was thinking it over a little while ago.
I've always been really unimpressed with Hydra Omnivore. Whenever I played it it just got chumped, and if you can give it trample you can probably just win the game with other creatures. Is Mistcutter a meta-call? If not, you might want to consider cutting it for one of the better hydras (Lifeblood Hydra from C14 springs to mind). You may also want to consider replacing Nissa with Garruk Wildspeaker. The overrun effect ends games and the untap ability can hit Gaea's Cradle and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, making it usually way better than four Forests.
In terms of generally good cards, I submit Kamahl, Fist of Krosa and Ant Queen. I've recently added both to my deck and they're both powerhouses. Kamahl's overrun can win the game pretty easily, and the land-animation ability is great at holding wraths at bay. Frontier Siege has been good too, but there are a couple Winter Orbs running around my meta so it may not be great for you. Eternal Witness is a good time, Temur Sabertooth has been a house in my deck for the last couple months.
I mean Winter Orb isn't much of a threat when I'm running Seedborn Muse and a few Artifact/Permanent Hate.
I probably won't run Garruk Wildspeaker because other than Overrun he doesn't do much, a lot of the time the "Untap Two Lands" doesn't mean much since an extreme majority of the time the only lands on the field are Forests so taking advantage of double taping Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and/or Gaea's Cradle isn't going to happen often, and if I'm doing that I'm probably winning already so I don't really need a "Win More" card in the deck.
Kamahl, Fist of Krosa would be my pick if I was picking "Overrun Sticks" because I don't need to wait a turn for it. I can just tap for five get Overrun and Swing with my Fatties.
Ant Queen seems pretty mediocre to me, she's a Mana Sink sure, but there aren't many Anthems in this deck so her 1/1 Ants will probably stay 1/1s for the most part and that isn't very useful to me. I'll give her a try though because I like Token Generators, I did make 3 Token Commander/EDH Decks after all.
I don't mind if Hydra Omnivore gets chump blocked, because that just means another creature has left the board and if I have Overrun abilities on the field he'll either need to be blocked to stop trample or the trample damage will go through and hit all my opponents. I don't see much of an issue with it. A Majority of Hydras in Magic don't have trample so you can exchange "Hydra Omnivore" with any nontrample Hydra and it'd be the same issue, just with a different Hydra. Lifeblood Hydra is alright, if I find a card to replace it with I might do put it in but I don't really need it.
Not really sure why Eternal Witness isn't in my deck but I should probably fix that. With Omnath I can see why Temur Sabertooth would be a good inclusion seeing as it protects cards when players throw out Wraths and it gets indestructible so that's a bonus. I'll find a way to put it in.
