Hey all. I've recently been designing a new edh deck with Thrasios and Akiri at the helm(nonblack). The deck is noncreature combo.
<card>Jeskai Ascendancy</c> and <card>Paradox Engine</c> are the two most essential cards in the deck. Both cards fuel the combo the same way, by untapping all nonland permanents. Once the combo starts, Jeskai Ascendancy digs through the whole deck while netting mana until drawing and casting Laboratory Maniac, then digs through the rest of the deck to win. Paradox engine doesn't let you draw cards, but you still net the mana, so Thrasios is in the command zone to make it a pseudo-Ascendancy.
In order to trigger these untaps, I'm using some unconventional enchantments:
<card>Attunement</card>
<card>Flickering Ward</card>
<card>Conviction</card>
<card>Ghitu Firebreathing</card>
<card>Volrath's Curse</card>
<card>Crown of Flames</card>
<card>View from Above</card>
Besides Volrath's Curse, all of the enchantments let me recast them for no more than 3 total mana. View from Above is one of only 3 cards in magic that will let me recast it for 2 mana, which is why it's on the list despite not being an enchantment. <c>Razor Boomerang</c> and <c>Sprout Swarm</c> are examples of cards that could also fit the combo, but are too expensive to recast(5 mana). From here, we just need things to untap.
<card>Bloom Tender</card>
<card>Gilded Lotus</card>
<card>Selvala, Heart of the Wilds</card>
<card>Earthcraft</card>
<card>Cryptolith Rite</card> This and Earthcraft turn my commanders into mana rocks.
<card>Chrome Mox</card>
<card>Mana Crypt</card>
<card>Krosan Restorer</card>
The last step is card advantage.
<card>Mystical Tutor</card>
<card>Enlightened Tutor</card>
<card>Brainstorm</card>
<card>Sensei's Divining Top</card>
<card>Scroll Rack</card>
<card>Teferi's Puzzle Box</card>
<card>Verduran Enchantress</card>
<card>Sram, Senior Edificer</card>
<card>Mesa Enchantress</card>
<card>Jace, Vryn's Prodigy</card>
<card>Argothian Enchantress</card>
<card>Wild Research</card>
<card>Sylvan Library</card>
<card>Sterling Grove</card>
<card>Mirri's Guile</card>
<card>Mindmoil</card>
<card>Enchantress's Presence</card>
<card>Wheel of Fortune</card>
<card>Reforge the Soul</card>
<card>Idyllic Tutor</card>
The deck can win as early as T4 but as late as T9, so it's anything but consistent. Monastery Mentor is fun and surprisingly fast. But I'm having trouble speeding up my combo, does anyone have any thoughts?
EDIT: Rewrote everything because the tags I used didn't work. Then they didn't work again. I'm too lazy to try to fix it again. Please let me know what you think about the idea!
