Okay guys so I took on a budget Griselbrand deck for a friend and he liked it really well. I really like mono black and that had me wanting a new general. So I picked one of my favorite cards from the most recent block, Geth, Lord of the Vault.
So basically it's kinda like a mono black control/beats. I have enough spot removal to last a long multiplayer game. Which is the best thing for Geth, because he needs ammo to revive :p. There's also a couple of creatures that play hand disrupt, which also helps as well. I'm running two sweepers; Black Sun's Zenith and my favorite for this deck and general- Life's Finale. Life's finale is obviously the better one, seeing as I can pick cards from an opponents deck to add to the yard. More and more ammo for Geth
So any feedback would be nice! Card suggestions are more than welcome, and I will try to sleeve this up soon and test some stuff out
So MINI PRIMER TIME! Hah, I thought I'd list the entire deck of the cards, as well as why I chose them; and what synergies they may have with each other.
Lands!
Well obviously we need to run quite a few Swamps. Black has always had an odd way with mana acceleration.
Mystifying Maze- Helps out with early aggro, and definitely helps me establish my board early game. Without getting beaten to death. Helps with an political aspect as well. Save one guy; gained a short-term teammate! Can sometimes hurt by strong ETB effects, but never had too bad of a problem.
Crypt of Agadeem- As on a short budget, Cabal Coffers may have to wait to join the list for awhile. Until then this seems like a nice little substitute. Late game it's pretty good, and can almost always tap for 5+ extra mana.
Leechridden Swamp- There's almost always a extra Swamp open at the end of my turn. So why not put some use into it? Sure it may take 5 turns to deal 5 damage. But slowly chipping away always does okay.
Creatures
Artisan of Kozilek- Cost only 9 to recur something, as well as a 10/9 beater that causes stuff to die when he attacks? Sign me up! Not only does he get rid of obnoxious artifacts and enchantments (Mono Blacks biggest problem is the removal of these) but he adds some creatures to the yard to recur. Oh you're gonna sac that Sol Ring? Gee thanks! Now that extra two mana can go to recurring that!
Augur of Skulls- Since you sacrifice him, you can't use his ability more than once, but for a little body that can withstand board wipes(given the mana for regen) his effect is pretty decent for putting stuff in the yard, and ripping cards from an opponent.
Avatar of War- Turn sideways, kill things. Almost always cost BB and is great if Lightning Greaves is in play. This deck loves removal.
Bloodghast- Need I say more? Everyone loves this guy if you're running black. He doesn't care how many times you wipe my board. He'll be back.
Grave Titan- Deathtouch, he brings guys, and for 4BB you get a 6/6 Giant with 2 2/2's. AND he produces more guys every time he attacks. Combined with that Deathtouch, not only will you get more Zombz, but he'll more than likely be taking someone out.
Magus of the Coffers- Well I don't have Cabal Coffers so this is just an alternative. If he can last around a few turns, especially late game, mana could get crazy.
Myojin of Night's Reach- Not only can it be used for an indestructible beater, she can wait until the perfect moment to take a opponents hand away. More and more fuel for Geth.
Ob Nixilis, The Fallen- I know this seems out of place here. It's kinda odd to see, I know. But he is a pretty cool card and can get big quick.
Pestilence Demon- Hmm remember all that extra floating mana that tends to generate? Maybe you have a few turns with him on the field and one of those you have 4 Swamps untapped. He can act as a small board wipe, as well as a miniature Exsanguiate.
Rune-Scarred Demon- Only 7 mana for a 6/6 flier that tutors. Not bad at all. Not much more can be said.
Sheoldred the Whispering One- Ahhh. One of my favorite cards in the deck. Synergizes with everything we work for. Not only is he removal, but he's recursion. And he does this every upkeep he's on the board. Can make some enemies in multiplayer. But makes up for it in the end.
Shriekmaw- This little guy is literally Doom Blade on a body. And we love removal.
Umbra Stalker- Sure he's not all that evasive. But I've had him at a 22/22 for only 4BBB. A 22/22 beater, for only 7 total mana. If only we ran some red so we could Fling him ;P
Instants/Sorceries
Army of the Damned- This is my mono black calling card. I always pop it off in Multiplayer and I love the flavor of it. This deck generates a ton of mana, so it's never hard to cast. Also, if Amulet of Vigor is on the field, it makes it even better.
Beacon of Unrest- Does what this deck does best. Take away stuff I've set up the entire game. Auto include.
Beseech the Queen- In mono black, it's a given. A great tutor for BBB or 6. Or any variation of that
Black Sun's Zenith- Miniature board wipe. Also resuffles back in. So I'll always see it more than once, and almost always wipe the entire board when I cast it.
Consuming Vapors- Lifegain, rebound, double removal, and all for 3B? Sign me up!
Corrupt-Can act as a slightly more expensive Exsanguiate late game. I've done it for anywhere for 5-18. Lifegain is an added bonus too.
Demonic Collusion- A tutor you can buy back? And it allows me to pitch cards into the yard to recur later. Not too shabby.
Increasing Ambition- Another tutor. Which could be flashbacked, then allows you to search for two cards.
Innocent Blood- Good removal, cheap, and works well in multiplayer!
Life's Finale- Not only does it wipe the board, but you're telling me I can search someones deck, grab three creatures, and basically give them to Geth? OHHH YEEAAH.
Profane Command- Wow. This is recursion, removal, damage, and a combat spell all in one. I love it!
Promise of Power- Black always needs card draw! This can get you 5 cards, a pretty hefty demon, or both!
Rend Flesh- Removal for basically everything. I hardly ever see spirits :p.
Rise from the Grave- Simple recursion. Kill my stuff? I get it back. All those cards I milled from you? Let me see that Jin-Gitaxias for a little bit. HOOOOLLLLAAAAA.
Shred Memory- Tutors for quite a few things in the deck. Or can be used to send stuff to exile from their yard
Syphon Mind- Hand disruption, card draw, AND adds stuff to their yard. Sold.
Temporal Extortion- I really don't know why I don't see this more in mono black. BBBB for an extra turn, or half of their life? Now, that extra turn is pretty important. You can set more mana up, kill stuff, or recur more. And so is diminishing their life.
Animate Dead- More recursion. NEEEED MOAR RECUSRIONNNN.
Bloodchief Ascension- VERY easy to get all the quest counters on this. And makes things easier on me. Also, since it's a you MAY effect, I can definitely be political about this card. Also does 2 damage for each card milled with Geth. I'll take that Sun Titan from you, gaining 12 life, and making you lose 12. And you destroyed my Mimic Vat earlier? Oh look! It's back
Planeswalker
Sorin Markov- Obvious Walker is obvious. Take someone to 10, or gain some life. In some rare instances, it's a Mindslaver as well!
Artifacts
Amulet of Vigor- Odd card in the deck; I know. But it helps with tempo with Geth. Since the creatures I recur with him come in tapped, with this they won't. Also can be used with Army of the Damned.
Mind Stone- Minor mana fixing, with a side of minor card draw.
Elixer of Immortality- I've come to realize multiplayer games take forever. This always helps get stuff back from earlier, and can help with some minor life gain.
Lashwrithe- A lot of people wonder why I run this instead of Nightmare Lash. The main reason is for the same cost, it comes in with a creature attached with it. And since I have the choice of paying the Phyrexian mana or BB.
Lightning Greaves- It's almost impossible to see a EDH deck without one of these babies
Well everyone the Mini Primer is done! This was my first type of primer so I hope it looks okay, and explains the deck well. Let me know what everyone thinks
Great Suggestions! I'll put up a newer list in the original post. And Amulet is there because the creatures come in tapped with Geth, so I thought it might help with some tempo issues there.
And of course I need to get both Cabal Coffers and a Urborg. But they cost so much D: Hopefully I can find some around for trade.
Mesmeric Orb is cheap to buy and will give you a lot of mileage. Mill their libraries a ton, and mill yours as well, which helps if you have recursive elements.
Necrotic Ooze is interesting; playing on the strengths of your opponents' deck is never a bad strategy in multiplayer. Plus you might get some good combinations of abilities from all the graveyards present. You can throw in one random Pili-pala just on the hopes of having Ooze out if the Magus of the coffers dies.
Keening Stone could really pull its weight once the milling gets huge, doing more work than the smaller millstone-type cards.
If you're going to have magus of the coffers, pair him up with buddy umbral mantle for infinite shenanigans.
Before you shell out $7+ for a cabal coffers, shell out $4 for a Contamination. Use the opponents' creatures for the upkeep costs. Who said Black is fair?
Hair-Strung Kyoto is on of those obscure kamigawa cards that can help with milling, so that your creatures are never useless; whenever something is about to die, get stolen, or untap, just tap for a quick mill of one card. It'll add up, and save you way more mana than normal millstone.
I get a ton of mileage out of Polluted Bonds in multiplayer games
Exquisite Blood is another one of those cards designed for Multiplayer. You don't even need the combo with Sanguine Bond, just sit back and reap life off of other player's effors.
If you have a lot of milling going on, Patron of the Nezumi is going to bring a whole world of hurt.
Lastly, Subversion can you help you gain life chunks back a little at a time while slowly picking away at everyone else. They won't complain but in long games, with 3 opponents, after 10 turns, you've gained 30 life and dealt 30. For 5 mana.
I don't have much experience building monocolor, but... Rings of Brighthearth should work well with Geth and some other cards you've got (Mimic Vat, Executioner's Capsule, Avatar of Woe and even Mindslaver). A Necrotic Ooze might also be in place there, since it can mimic Geth and Avatar and also abuses the creatures you're putting in their graveyards.
Speaking on graveyards, don't you have any way of recurring your artifacts? A Buried Ruin could get you out of some tight spots. Or a Salvage Titan, because if your destroyed artifacts are just going to sit there in your GY they might as well net you some cards.
Oh, and there's a card in M13 that can replace Rend Flesh. It's called Murder and it does exactly the same as Rend Flesh, except for the arcane subtype and the non-spirit restriction. You know, for those times when you're facing Karador.

Hmm good ideas! I'll throw a Buried Ruin in there soon. Also when I saw Murder, I knew that second it was going in there haha. And I have a Salvage Titan I just might have to test him out. Because late game if I do have 4 or 5 artifacts, and already used my buried ruin, he can become helpful!

Puppeteer Clique- Puts all that spot removal, hand disruption, and mini board wipes to use. Twice. Or more if you like him as a target for Rise from the Grave or Animate Dead.
Rune-Scarred Demon- Only 7 mana for a 6/6 flier that tutors. Not bad at all. Not much more can be said.

Doom Blade- Cheap removal is cheap.
Dread Return- Recursion. Really fun to buy back with Puppeteer Clique on the field. I'll take a creature from my yard, and yours too.
Exsanguiate- Great win condition. Can easily hit for critical with all the mana i'll be producing.
Geth's Verdict- Pretty decent removal. Get's around hexproof.
Go for the Throat- See Doom Blade.
Mind Shatter- Simple hand disruption!
Praetor's Grasp- The closest black will ever have to Bribery. Sure I have to pay the mana cost, but stealing a Sol Ring or Sensai's Divining Top is always hilarious.

Shred Memory- Tutors for quite a few things in the deck. Or can be used to send stuff to exile from their yard
Sign in Blood- More black card draw!
Tendrils of Corruption- Pretty similar to Corrupt. Lifegain is always nice!
Enchantments
Bloodchief Ascension- VERY easy to get all the quest counters on this. And makes things easier on me. Also, since it's a you MAY effect, I can definitely be political about this card. Caged Sun- Obvious choice in mono colors, especially black. Helps win with Magus of the Coffers and Exsanguiate.
Mind Stone- Minor mana fixing, with a side of minor card draw.
Elixer of Immortality- I've come to realize multiplayer games take forever. This always helps get stuff back from earlier, and can help with some minor life gain.
Everflowing Chalice- Epic ramp is epic.
Executioner's Capsule- It's a Doom Blade on a artifact. And we love removal.
Expedition Map- Kind of an EDH staple. Helps with mana ramp.
Grimoire of the Dead- Now i'm kinda iffy about this card. It seems like a lot of work. But if I pull it off in late game, it could basically be a win.
Journeyer's Kite- More mana ramp.
Mimic Vat- Because Grave Titan on this thing is hilarious. As well as Artisan of Kozilek or Avatar of Woe.
Mindcrank- Pretty good mill card. And HILARIOUS with Bloodchief Ascension with all counters. Great stuff for Geth.
Mindslaver- Since I'll have a ton of mana, I thought, "Why not?". Kinda iffy about it, but whatever.
Sol Ring- Does this need any explanation?
Swiftfoot Boots- Like Lightning Greaves. But Hexproof allows fun stuff with Lashwrithe and friends. Protects Geth!
Well everyone the Mini Primer is done! This was my first type of primer so I hope it looks okay, and explains the deck well. Let me know what everyone thinks

Nightmare lash compliments Lashwrithe well.
Trepanation Blade is going to do a whole lot of milling and/or damage, especially on a General with Intimidate.
Corpse Harvester is a relatively unknown tutor card
No Mercy is expensive, so use Dreadfor defense
Guiltfeeder could potentially have one-swing OHKO's
Harvester of Souls should net you a lot of cards
Woebearer is one of those obscure reanimation creatures that you can get a lot of mileage out of
Extractor Demon can fuel even more milling
If you have a more zombie theme, Gravespawn Sovereign becomes kind of crazy
I get a ton of mileage out of Polluted Bonds in multiplayer games
Exquisite Blood is another one of those cards designed for Multiplayer. You don't even need the combo with Sanguine Bond, just sit back and reap life off of other player's effors.
