Inspired by the Squire Storm deck designed by Gaka, I played with a Maralen deck for awhile. That deck won its first game in brilliant fashion, mauling 5 folks instantly. After that, I never kept Maralen on the table. I decided, instead of knocking off a strategy so easily identified and dealt with that I would disguise my evil. With that I present to you, The Perfect (Goblin) Storm.
My intended goal is very similar to all storm decks, storm a huge count and kill everyone. Like many of other storm decks, I utilize Ad Nauseam to draw out my deck and then cast it all out.
Obviously we all know, the biggest issues that might hurt us, instant responses. This is where my deck all star comes into play, Raven's Crime.
My plan is quite beautiful once I draw the whole deck, I start by dropping my 0 cast flotsam (I love to start with Dark Sphere just to try and trick the know it alls into countering it, as it is useless in my deck, but alot of Maralen decks use it for a combo). After all of the 0 cost non-creature artifacts are out, I then drop the 0 cost creatures (yay kobolds!). Now comes the complex business end of it all, in order to pull it off you have to build your mana base at just the right level to pull off death for all.
1. Mana rocks (3 black 1 red 2 colorless)
2. Use Burnt Offering on general for 3 red. (2 black 4 red 2 colorless)
3. Dark Ritual (4 black 4 red 2 colorless)
4. Culling the Weak (7 black 4 red 2 colorless)
5. Goblin Bombardment (7 black 3 red 1 colorless)
6. Sacrifice to Bombardment all creatures in play (should be 6 creatures)
7. Songs of the Damned with 9 creatures in yard (14 black 3 red 1 colorless)
8. Cabal Ritual (19 black 3 red 1 colorless)
9. Discard your opponents hands with 18 black mana (1 black 3 red 1 colorless)
* Note 1
10. Empty the Warrens (1 red) [estimated count 55-60]
11. Brightstone Ritual (way more red than you need)
12. Use stupid red mana to cast elixir. **Note 2
13. Mass Hysteria
14. Goblin War Strike
15. Grapeshot
16. Swing into any leftover faces
17. Sac all the goblins if anyone other than you is still alive. (you must be in one very large multi player game at this point)
Game.
*Note 1: Utilize the discard in order of selective ones first, and the retrace peoples hands crazy with any leftover of the 18 black mana. It is impossible for that evil blue mage to counter your storm count if his hand is in his graveyard.
*Note 2: If someone, somehow makes it so you cannot swing or otherwise kill them off with damage (which would be an impressive feat in the first 5-10 turns of a game). You can always pop the engineered explosives and then shuffle it all back in with the elixir.
*Note 3: If someone has that one creature that could ruin your plans, Slaughter Pact is there. Tormod's Crypt is open for that potential yard shinannagans too. If they know your plans, tutor for Boseiju first and then wait it out for a second tutor for the big spell.
I chose Lyzolda for 3 reasons:
1. She is in my colors
2. She is cheap enough to not affect my curve by being cast before my theoretical 5th turn casting of Ad Nauseam.
3. Think of her as mana storage for the Burnt Offering when I combo out.
I would love comments and/or suggestions.
