So shortly after building my first EDH deck, I went over to my friends house. No one else in my area had really gotten on board with building EDH decks at this point. I eventually persuaded him to let me build a deck with him. He really liked the card Karona, False Godess so I built a really hilarious and terrible EDH deck (rolling all 5 elder dragons!). It was so fun that I decided to make a 5 color EDH deck too.
My line of thought went like this. Karona is a terrible card, thus I shall make my EDH deck with the worst 5 color general I can find. I glanced upon Atogatog in his trade bind and thought "hmmm, how can I abuse him...
This deck wins by simply getting out 10+ lands and then constantly using that mana simply killing everyone else through sheer attrition (aka by trying to out card advantage the rest of the table combined). Let's play that Nicol Bolas, 4 times in one game. How about I cast cruel ultimatum every turn until you die. Brilliant ultimatum pass, untap, cruel ultimatum, pass, untap, crush of wurms.
Genesis, Karador, sheoldred and eternal witness mean that until someone exiles my graveyard I will just constantly be playing these guys forever.
The plan B is to viciously maul someone with Atogatog himself. This happens as follows.
Step 1) Play atogatog
Step 2) Untap with atogatog (this happens less than you'd imagine, and its hilarious to see how many kill spells get thrown his way)
Step 3) Have Xenograft, unnatural selection, or mirror-entity on the field
Step 4) Play Army of the Damned/crush of wurms/Mirror-entity for 7
Step 5) Have atogatog eat lots of things, become a 21/21 and ruin someone's day. Whispersilk if there's chump blockers around, or win during my upkeep Mayael's Aria.
Land destruction is greatly frowned upon. So while this deck rolls over and folds at the waste to Armageddon, no one really plays Armageddon so I don't have to worry about it. Similarly Eldrazi are frowned upon.
Birthing Pod - Sac outlet that searches up primeval and sheoldred for me. This card ends games so fast.
Maelstrum Nexus - Cascading every turn is awesome, even if I do hit green sun's zenith way more often than I should.
Praetor's Grasp - Most people's EDH decks run really good cards, turns out I can tap my mana for any color
Sliver overlord - He's huge, he tutors for harmonic sliver to answer things and mirror entity to kill people. No he will never replace atogatog as my general. Stop rolling your eyes when I drop him.
Eternal Witness + Atogatog + Xenograft + Cruel Ultimatum = I can play Cruel Ultimatum every turn
Noxious Revival/Liliana's -2 + Maelstrum Nexus = Nicol bolas, cascading into cruel ultimatum. Seems good
Some cards in here could be replaced with better cards. They just haven't been because I find them fun to play with. Some of them off the top of my head are as follows.
Galvanoth - Not really that great as he should only hit maybe 25% of the time. The times I can set up free spells with Liliana Vess's -2, noxious revival and crystal ball make it so I enjoy keeping him around.
Spellweaver Volute - This card is just a well designed cool card. Mystical tutor -> ultimatum. Spellweaver the mystical tutor, play ultimatum searching for ultimatum is kind of the nuts. Not a great card, but defiantly a fun card.
Heroes Remembered - I found that while I could card advantage all my friends to death, I would also die a slow death by inches. So while life gain isn't that great in EDH, I needed something I could just slam down when I was at 10, so that I could keep plugging away.
Necrotic Plague - It's pretty much a sorcery speed removal spell, that randomly stays around and houses everyone. Again I just get a kick out of throwing it down. Further more, live the dream with Asceticism.
