Bladetusk Boar, taken from MTG Art, by Sam Burley and Wizards of the Coast
Welcome to the Card Creation League! Everyone is free to participate in either or both of the first two rounds. Come join us!
Theme
This month we're going to care about creature types! This may seem like quite simple stuff but it can get pretty complex given the many possible tribal interactions.
Most creatures in Magic are either people, or fantastical beings. But what about the "natural" animals, the workaday creatures we might see in the real world? Time to show them some love - and, indeed, the most prosaic among them: The barnyard animals.
Challenge
Design a creature card whose only creature type is one of the following: Boar, Camel, Goat,
Ox, or Sheep.
That means the card has one creature type, and it must be one of the listed five.
Make sure to include a rarity.
Your submissions are due Thursday, April 27th, 23:59 EST.
Blessed Provider1WW
Creature - Ox (R)
Whenever a creature deals damage to Blessed Provider, each other creature you control deals damage equal to its power to that creature. Those who dare to force one of Atisava's children aside soon learn of her follower's zeal.
0/4
Hardy Dromedary
Creature — Camel (R)
Vigilance
Deserts you control have " : Add one mana of any color to your mana pool." Not many animals are able to survive in the harsh environment of the desert, but there are some that are able to extract what they need from the land.

Fertile SheepW
Creature - Sheep (Uncommon)
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a wool counter on Fertile Sheep .
Remove three wool counters from Fertile Sheep: Create a colorless Equipment artifact token named Wool Armor. It has "Equipped creature gets +0/+3" and equip 1.

Noble Markhor1WW
Creature - Goat (R)
Lifelink
Sacrifice Noble Markhor: Choose a color. Until end of turn, your devotion to that color becomes 7. (Your permanents do not affect your devotion to the chosen color this turn.) Offering the rarest and most distinguished of beasts gains undeniable favor.

Reckless Goat1RW
Creature - Goat (R)
At the beginning of your upkeep, choose a creature you control. That creature must attack this turn if able.
When that creature attacks on the turn it was chosen, you may tap up to one untapped goat you control. If you do, that creature gains power and toughness equal to the power and toughness of the tapped goat until end of turn.
4/1 A war-trained goat pulls its master's chariot forward into any danger without fear.
Tillhauler3G
Creature - Ox (U)
When Tillhauler attacks, you may reveal the top 2 cards of your library. Put any land cards revealed this way onto the battlefield tapped. Put the other cards into your graveyard.

Potentially a lot of ramp, though it does come down somewhat late.

This could be worded better I think. On its own, it essentially has "T: Another target creature gets +4/+1 until end of turn. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery." Which is pretty strong, even if the target is telegraphed.

Ink-Treader: Sacred cow? I do like the effect quite a lot. I'm not sure how I feel about it on this kind of body. It certainly will slow a game down if it not immediately removed. drewdagreek: The mechanic flows into the name well. However with such a generic name, the card could be much brighter with flavor text. Theelkspeaks: The way the effects are written, they shouldn't be two separate lines. There is dissonance in the name calling your goat reckless and the flavor talking about it being war-trained. Flatline: I think the flavor text maybe could use some parsing, but otherwise this is a very solid design that takes advantage of the desert subtype. netn10:I thought about a similar direction at one point with the challenge myself. I'm not sure about the numbers of this card. Its a mediocre starting card that is a dead draw later. I think the idea is solid but the execution feels off.
Ink-Treader - I like this ability quite a bit. The effect seems like it should be in green or red, but white makes some sense also. All in all, a very good card.
netn10 - I really like the idea behind this card quite a bit, but I'm afraid it may be a bit too slow to see any play. Maybe not in limited though. I'm not sure "fertile" makes sense here.
IcariiFA - I like the flavor behind this one a lot, but I feel like it might be a bit too cute. If you are playing devotion to a color, why not just play a lot permanents of that color? If you do, I could see times where this is actually decreasing your devotion to that color. Basically, if you're playing this card, you're probably trying to use it to "cheat" your way to having a temporarily high devotion to a color, in which case you are pretty reliant on this thing to make your devotion cards work. Why not just play good cards that give you devotion to that color in the first place?
Theelkspeaks - This card seems ok, but I think you could've gotten a very similar effect in a much more elegant way.
drewdagreek - I like the idea of this card, but I'm afraid that's a lot of ramp, especially for an uncommon. I'd reccomend to the lands go to your hand. Or maybe make it a rare? Plenty of room for flavor text.

This is a weird and super niche mana fixer, it's definitely an interesting idea but I think it might ask a little too much of the player.

I like this ability, though the wording feels slightly unintuitive and clunky - I had to read it three times to understand how it worked. A good idea but a slight deduction for clarity.
The critique deadline has passed, and we have two clear finalists: Congratulations to Ink-Treader and IcariiFA! Be on the lookout for the final round very soon.
