I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
Also, how come that a spell that is worse to Cancel (and more difficult to pay/play) is winning? Hell, it is even worse than Negate.
Because dicking with your opponent is WAY more fun that outright denying them. Plus, something like that can impair the judgement of someone not expecting it. Drawing a card seems like a good deal until you realize that you REALLY needed that spell to go off and you had a Counterspell in your hand.

Don't get me wrong. As a design I really like it. But as a card to play with it actually sucks most of the time except in really narrow cases. You may have fun but you are bound to lose much many more games than if you packed Cancel. Hell, if you had to pack Cancel to begin with, your deck may be really bad anyway. What I'm trying to say here is that it's less playable than a very mediocre card.
To make such a cool idea playable, I'd cost it UR and make it cantrip so it would be kind of symmetric.

I'm pretty sure the reason for the number of votes is right there.
Personally I thought it was too weak (probably could've just been U tbh) and that overrode its merits so I didn't vote for it but it's a very clever card.

I was thinking the same thing, but I overcosted it because I didn't want to make something broken. Spellwrit Forgery essentially says "Counter target spell even if it's uncounterable. Its controller draws a card."
But then I got to thinking of Vex, and I figured that I did overcost it. Either way, I've updated the copy of the card I have on MSE.
Spellwrit Forgery does cripple my Trick or Treat pretty damn well, so I guess it can be winning? I wanna mini-Threaten all these creatures >:D
Still mad that apparently split cards are read X AND Y, which means the kids using my card demand your candy and then egg your house anyway. They're just mean like that.

I'm guessing it's due to people who wouldn't compare it to Cancel (I didn't) and though of it as a simple, clever, elegant line of text.

Draft my cube! (630 cards)
Did anyone else notice the name of the game changed to catastrophe? Ominous.
But also, I echo this sentiment.
