This needs to happen. I order from you all all the time except when it is just a few cards... then ebay gets my business. If you all could change your higher shipping prices for a small amount of cards that would be awesome! If you do this please be sure to advertise it so that we will know it has happened.
Ordered from the 5 times now, from overseas. Yes it's a ***** to register your credit card with them, but their service is awesome. The shipping is quite expensive though, but i make it up in the money i save from buying cards in europe. A bulk rare in Norway is about 2.5$. A bulk foil is 4$ so you can imagine it's nice being able to buy cheap foils and stuffs from SCG. Great store, with great customer service!
I've been a long time costumer of SCG. While the credit card verification process for international costumers is annoying, it is totally worth it. I started doing business with them towards the end of 2007, and have thus far placed 10 orders, and have traded in my judge foils with them since I first started getting them in '08, without any complaints whatsoever. I've never found their card prices to be as high as people claim (I've found they're actually cheaper than other sites for some staples [Mimic Vat @4.99]). They have very reasonable buylist prices, amazing costumer service and extremely cordial staff. I've nothing bad to say about them, and definitively recommend them to anyone looking to buy cards online.
When I got my latest order yesterday, I discovered two things wrong with it (first time I've ever had a complaint about anything I purchased there). They had accidentally sent me a Volrath's Laboratory instead of the Volrath's Stronghold I had orderd, and the Deckmasters Necropotence I ordered was, quite literately, peeling off at the lower-right corner. I can see how it could've happened, though. The card looks fine until you inspect it closely (it looks like it has a crease in the front but not on the back), and you probably wouldn't notice unless the raised part of the card caught on a sleeve as you put it in (or where shuffling it in an unsleeved deck).
I wrote to them last night about both things, and got a prompt response first thing this morning apologizing for the mistakes and telling me that replacements were being mailed to me today, and to keep the problem cards.
If that's not amazing service, I don't know what is. Great job guys, I look forward to continue doing business with you in the future!
EDIT: Got the replacement cards in the mail today. Great costumer service!
I use the wish list at Star City Games to keep track of the contents / value of my draft cube. Today I logged in to make some changes, and was greeted with a message saying that one of the cards (Beacon of Unrest from 10th) is no longer carried by SCG and they do not intend to restock it, so it was being removed from my wish list. They still have it in stock, and I was able to add it back again, but it struck me as odd... has anyone else received a message like that, does anyone know of SCG making a statement about it somewhere, and most importantly are there other sites you would recommend for keeping track of a collection for card value?

L1 MtG judge (L2 coming soon) and Dominion tournament coordinator serving Flint MI and its surrounding cities.
It doesn't matter. The honest truth, is that they see no potential in certain cards, or the amount of money that they will get from these cards will be insignificant. Unless the set is standard relevant, they don't stock up on a lot of singles, unless they see serious play. What they have is either what they have remaining from the days when the cards were standard legal, or what they get from buying peoples collections.
I've got to say, I have never, ever, had a problem with SCG. I do tend to shy away from them when looking for a staple, but by god do they have every card imaginable. I've attended a few of their Open Series Tournaments and they are very well ran and operated, I've even had the pleasure of selling to them at both events. Once I sold them almost 1000 dollars in cards that were sitting in my trade binder collecting dust. Another event I spoke with a rep before bringing in a large amount of bulk to sell, it ended up being a little over 50 000 cards, and ther service was excellent. I would recommend 100%.

I currently order primarily through Channel Fireball (for larger purchases) because they offer free shipping on purchases of $50 or more, or through Cool Stuff Inc (for smaller purchases) because they offer $0.99 shipping on singles. If StarCityGames could offer more shipping options, given its selection and reputation for great service, I would be happy to start using them for my needs.

Due to real-life obligations, I am taking a long break from Magic which may include missing the local Legacy GP. Apologies for not being able to keep my threads updated.
I got pretty frustrated when I spent half an hour putting together a huge order, then fiding out they don't take Paypal from Canada.
How idiotic and arbitrary is that, they lost a decent sale....
This is likely due to the excessive requirements of sellers to be able to have full tracking for all packages that are paid for via paypal. From within the US, there are no cheap mailing options that cover this. There is a reason a LOT of ebay sellers no longer sell internationally (myself included), due to said paypal requirements. Given that if a seller uses paypal and goes for the cheap shipping options that most buyers prefer, all of the potential for loss is on the seller, heck, without proof of delivery, even if it did arrive the seller would have no way to prove that and would still be on the hook for it in the end.
If you are shipping within the US, paypal is great for buyers and sellers alike. If you are shipping outside of the US, paypal is great for buyers, and not for sellers (unless the sellers can manage to get their buyers to pay the crazy high shipping costs that include full tracking so the seller is covered.)
So no, I dont blame Star City for not taking paypal for international purchases if that was indeed the case or is their policy.

Hey Jester's Tear:
The issue you had is that you may have put an SP version of the card on the wishlist. These cards are periodically cycled in/out of our website as we have stock, whereas we always keep NM versions of cards available. We're in the process of making our wish list functionality a lot more "functional" so this issue should be addressed before the end of 2011. Until then, I would recommend just putting NM versions of cards onto your wish list, to avoid this problem!

We generally accept all forms of payment from international customers that we accept from domestic customers, except for Paypal. This includes Credit Card (with a one-time verification process for Non-US customers), Check, Money Order, Western Union, or Bank Transfer!
As Jeff stated, Paypal does not offer comprehensive seller protection internationally at this time. When the time comes that we are offered the same protection on our shipments internationally that we are domestically, we will be more than happy to start accepting Paypal payments from international customers!

I ordered from them recently, in a round about way (as a gift). While inconvenient to go through verifying a different mailing than shipping address, I do appreciate that they are trying to look out for their customers. I also appreciate that they called at business hours instead of odd ones today (0830 local time). They were even polite when slightly hung over me accidentally hung up on them and had to call them back. While I obviously haven't received the cards yet, the customer service seems quite polite.

Odds of pulling a JtMS from a WWK pack: 1:80
Odds of pulling any specific rare in 5th Edition: 1:133
So, on average, 1 JtMS every 2.222 boxes or 1 Bird of Paradise every 3.694 boxes. Yeah, I'll take my odds with Mythics, they are easier to get than old rares.

Is there any chance that the 'Advanced Search' function on your site will be updated so users can search for foreign cards by specific language? Basically I want to use the advanced search to narrow my results down so I don't have to scroll through all the Asian language cards when I'm searching for European language cards.

That type of filter would be great.
Absolutely, and we're working on a general overhaul to the system right now that will make searching foreign cards easier overall! Should be done by the end of Q2 in 2011.
Until then, we do have a search on the sidebar of StarCityGames.com for each individual language. For the sake of ease:

SCG is one of the only three online stores I buy from. They have a great selection and always ship the cards in the condition listed. They also make sure your cards have plenty of protection when ship. Furthermore They are the only store that I have experience that wont cancel orders on price spikes. I ordered 4 Chinese Time spirals at $8.00 A pop the night of the Unban and were shipped promptly at the correct price. SCG might be a little more pricey but I have never been unhappy with an order.

I am going to buy some cards to make a Legacy Zoo deck, and going to pay with Western Union, but first I would like to know some things
1) If you have ever paid with Western Union and if you experience was good
2) What is the possibility that my package looses with the 78 dolars shipping option
3) If I can use Western Union being under 18.

Do Not, I repeat, do NOT ever pay for anything with western union. ever. western union exists so that if you're vacationing in paris and your wallet gets stolen, your parents can get you money without any ID. The moment you send money via Western Union, and give the other person the passcode, they can (and will, with nearly 100% certainty) walk into any Western Union, anywhere in the world, take your money, and walk away. You will never find them. You will have no chance of getting it back. It will just be gone, instantly.
Do Not, at any age, ever use Western Union unless it is a situation much like one described above. Don't even think about it, no matter how good a deal sounds. Ever.
You should be able to order and ship internationally. The shipper should mark the contents as a "gift," declare them as cards, and declare their value honestly (might consider lowballing the value if Uruguay has serious corruption problems). If you're worried about not receiving the cards, get shipping insurance. Just don't ever use Western Union for sending money. There is ZERO accountability for money sent in that fashion, and a roughly 0% chance that you will ever receive the cards.
I'm a very honest person. If you sent me money via Western Union, I would take it and walk away. Not because I need the money, but to teach you the lesson to never pay via Western Union.
