He doesn't get a pass on doing something most people frown upon because he "does so much for the community" which is posting a thread that shows what hes selling cards for.
What a ridiculous notion.
He's a scummy owner doing a scummy thing. He deserves to be posted here.
I can remember when he pretty much became a martyr for the spoiler community as a whole. If we don't support our members, then who will?
And to completely destroy your argument he has a ton in stock at 6$ today after "refunding" a ton last night. Thus, he's clearly not selling them at the price he was offering them at.
I'm not the master of his inventory, and neither are you. I have no idea why he refunded orders, and neither do you. The burden of proof lies on you to show that he's taking advantage of his customers. So far, you have a quote that could go either way, and a website that says his inventory isn't zero. Congratulations, your evidence is circumstantial.
Playing millions of cards every turn... Slowly and systematically obliterating any chance my opponent has of winning... Clicking the multitude of locking mechanisms into place... Not even trying to win myself until turn 10+ once I have nigh absolute control... Watching my opponent desperately trying to navigate the labyrinthine prison that I've constructed... Seeing the light of hope fade and ultimately extinguished in an excruciatingly slow manner... THAT'S fun Magic.
We have 2-3 users that are dramatically making this thread incomprehensible and non-productive for anyone else to possibly join in the discussion. This needs to change.
Every time I see [ktkenshinx] post in here, I get the impression of a stern dad walking in on a bunch of kids trying to do something dumb and just shaking his head in disappointment.
Near Mint: The same as Slightly Played, but we threw some Altoids in the box we stored it in to cover up the scent of dead mice. Slightly Played: The base condition for all MTG cards. This card looks OK, but there’s one minor annoying ding in it that will always irritate and distract you whenever you draw it. Moderately Played: This card looks like it survived the Tet Offensive tucked inside the waistband of GI underwear. It may smell like it, too. Heavily Played: This card looks like the remains of Mohammed Atta’s passport after 9/11. It may be playable if you double-sleeve it to stop the chunks from falling out. The condition formerly known as "Washing Machine Grade" Damaged: This card is the unfortunate victim of a Mirrorweave/March of the Machines/Chaos Confetti/Mindslaver combo.
[M]aking counterfeit cards is the absolute height of dishonesty. Ask yourself this question: Since most people...are totally cool with the use of proxies...what purpose do [high] quality counterfeit cards serve?

This thread is a list of stores that cancel orders when card prices spike. We have a store advertising unlimited inventory, with the cards still listed for sale, and an owner admitting that he cancelled 30 orders when the price spiked. He was given every opportunity to explain himself and chose not to. We have posters on the forum attesting to the fact that their own orders were cancelled, and that their orders did not violate the store's terms.
The fact that he cancelled orders when the price spiked has been proven. That is what this thread is for. If there is some extenuating circumstance I'm sure he would have explained it by now instead of reporting posts in the hope of sweeping this under the rug.
We have a dishonest seller using MTGS to drum up business. The community deserves to know.
So this is a bit of a weird thing then, because I currently feel as though if I do post him in here, this thread will be taken down. However, if you can show me where he admitted to it, I'll gladly do it.
Hmm... so rereading the posts a bit, I'll give him 24 hours to respond myself. Also, someone mentioned that it lists he has "unlimited inventory"? Im curious as to where you found that line... just for posterities sake.
It's not clear that we're even allowed to post much about this, since rancored_elf is well liked by the people who run this site and all discussion of his sales practices were deleted from the thread that he posts using his sales data. I wonder if mtgsalvation gets a kickback? Maybe they tip him off when a card is trending hot, to help him cancel sales to increase his gouge potential? While it honorable that your defending him, it's still spam. ~Duxx

Macius,
I quoted the post where he admitted to it yesterday. link
It appears that he's taken down the line advertising "now featuring unlimited inventory" but I can assure you that was on his site when he cancelled the orders. I (regrettably) did not take a screenshot, but others in this thread also saw it and can vouch for it.
His website definitely said unlimited inventory for standard singles. I'm not sure what drove him to do that, other than he was tired of updating his inventory of standard commons. R_E is a for profit website. I bet he definitely shipped orders of any cards that fell/turned out to not be good, even if they ordered more than 8. I was actually not that upset that he cancelled my order because the cards I ordered ended up not even showing up in the top 8, but watching people blindly defend him even after he did this...that upsets me. You can say he's an asset to the community, great. However, he's still a shop that cancels orders if the price gets higher and he's still a shop that's competing with hundreds of other shops out there. And he's lost a customer, not that he seems to give a damn.

To put it simply, there are places to post such concerns and those places are the ONLY places those sorts of discussions are allowed (especially in market street). We have a section of market street that is specifically for discussion of online stores and their good and bad performances among other things. Whether sarcastic or not, making accusations against the mods or site of bias in such areas is silly, this is simply how things go. If you post in the wrong place, your posts get moved, deleted, or occasionally warned/infracted typically after warnings to stay on topic have been given. If you have a gripe against a store, find the store in this section of market street or if the store isn't listed, then you can always create a new thread for that store and begin the discussion about your experiences with that store and let others comment about their own experiences. The main area of market street is for the discussion of the cards, not for discussion of the stores selling the cards from my understanding.
As for RE et all. I am not sure how wise it is to ever list inventory as being available that you do not have. Limiting quantities I think is 100% fine for individual orders (whether 4 cards or 8 cards or whatever the store chooses to do), but within those limitations, stores should always honor their sales prices. If the individuals running the stores are too slow and they miss an increase, then so be it. I've been on the wrong end of increases like that on ebay or otherwise, if you are a good seller, you will honor what you sell the cards at, and just make sure future sales of those cards will be at the newly increased values.
rancored_elf sells cards to give people fair prices and good service.
He doesn't sell cards to put money in the pockets of speculators because he was too slow to put the price up.
I'm sorry, but what are you talking about?
First of all, good service is not cancelling orders because you think you can make more money selling the item again to someone else.
Fair prices? Prices are determined, really, by one thing, and that thing is what people are willing to pay. As it turns out, $6 is apparently not fair, because no one bought his Pearl Lake Ancients once he jacked up the price.
And he doesn't sell anything for any of those reasons anyway; he sells things to make money. Capitalism is, literally, not charity.

There were like 5 posts back and forth about "what is the proper abbreviation for Khans of Tarkir." This is far less on-topic than the discussion about his sales practices.
@Jeff: That is mainly the point I want to be enforced here. I want to seperate hyperbolous non-sense from actual misgivings. I have no conflict of interest from putting R_E on the list as I have never purchased from him nor have I really needed to (or pretty much any online store thanks to a healthy amount LGS in my area). Saying that, I dont want to be in a situation where I put him on the list and then he shows up and shows that people are not revealing the whole truth. Thats why I love it when people post the message, like this: (http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/market-street/market-street-cafe/store-discussion/388552-list-of-shops-that-cancel-orders-when-cards-spike?page=3#c58).
It shows me that the person wasnt asking anything extreme and that the store owner decided that taking a hit is better than customer service.
With that however, a post saying him restocking and raising prices isnt necessarily worthy enough to post on this thread. To ask me to put a store on here for raising prices is beyond any kind of sound logic and into the realm of insanity. However, like the post I linked, notice how he shares the order, and cancellation and when asked by someone else "If the order was ridiculous", he shares the exact order and a timeframe.
If you want my core point: If you want me to add a store, I want proof that they cancel/said they were out of stock and that they raised prices/magically came into more stock the next day or that you made an order before a big event and they held off on it until after and then did the refund/cancellation.
As it stands, I do believe he may of done wrong. At the very least, posting infinite inventory on standard singles before was not the best of ideas as it opens him up to this kind of thing. But a post saying "Oh, im raising my prices on these cards", not an addition to the list it makes. If you have proof of him cancelling, I will gladly, link to the post. However for now, I'll need to stew on it and await a response. But, and I really want to make this clear, I dont take kindly to people who say, "Oh, I bet he has the mods working for him," or other talk like that. Its a very quick way for me not to take anything you say seriously, I am really abhorrent to that kind of talk.

If you felt there were some other off topic posts in the thread you could have reported them and I'm sure the moderators would have been happy to take a look at them to determine if they were off topic or if there was a better place where such questions could have been asked. In this case we do have a place specifically to discuss online stores and sellers, and thusly the discussion of those topics is specifically designated to this part of market street that we are in right now. The mods do an excellent job making sure that people stick to the correct areas of the forums for specific kinds of discussions. In the case of the khans of tarkir running tally thread, while RE may often being a primary poster in those threads, they are not his threads, they are posted on and contributed to by many of us here including myself and others that contribute our own valuation information and perspectives, but inevitably, those threads have nothing to do with the sellers of the cards, but simply the values of the cards themselves and our perspectives on trends in those cards as it pertains to supply/demand and value.
In the case of RE, he chose to cancel orders and raise the price, which he can do if he wants, but he will have to deal with the negative consequences and PR of those actions for those that greatly dislike stores that cancel orders due to a sudden rise in price.
So, I had a very brief discussion with someone on this and came to this simple thing. Im not giving 24 hours like I said I would, he is going on the list. Had he responded and told people even, "Hey, I can give you 2-4 at the old price as I seem to of run short," I doubt there would of been issue, lest it just be minor. However, he cancelled peoples order on a card spiking and raised it.
He still however is free to voice his side here, and if he raises a valid point, I can remove him from the list easily.
However, and let me re-iterate one thing. If people come in here and slander someone/name call/ spew conspiracy theory bull-crap like the staff is getting kickbacks, I will ignore your post even if its a valid complaint elsewhere in it and report it. Aint the place for it, at all.
Macius, thank you for maintaining a list such as this. As a Canadian customer, seeing Rancored_Elf's name on the list will help me stay aware the next time I am shopping for cards. It is important to vote with our dollars and I intend to do just that.
I've had R_E cancel and refund items when they jumped in price multiple times.
Last time was with Coursers when they jumped ~7-8 in a week shortly after they were released. He had a totally reasonable explanation as he was dealing with a family emergency thing for a week and hadn't touched his site. I understood, even thought i would have preferred if he had honoured it as i have ordered from him going back to Future Sight, i'm a long time customer who wasn't trying to scam him or spec on them, i legit wanted them and at the time i placed the order they were at a fair price, they spiked while he was away.
That was pretty extraneous circumstances, and while unfortunate it was somewhat understandable. It won't stop me from ordering from him again, but it was unfortunate and will make me think twice about ordering anything that is really hot as opposed to just stable things, but that's hard to predict.
Thank you. I agree that conspiracy theory accusations are not warranted here. Rancored_Elf might be getting "special treatment" in that we're all a bit more inclined to hear his side of the story than we would be with RandomTCGseller999 or something, but that's because he has established himself in the community and does warrant that consideration. The mods have a tricky job here in weighing the valuable information he provides to the community with the fact that he drives business from this site while engaging in dishonest business practices. It's not easy to navigate, and as someone who had my own posts deleted I fully understand and respect the decisions they've made here. And I certainly don't fault you for trying to give R_E a chance to explain himself before going on the list. I wish he had taken you up on it.
I do think it's slightly troubling, however, that he advertises his site and prices in a prominent, high-trafficked area of the site, while all the negative information about his business practices is confined to a less visible area. I hope that others see this thread before choosing to buy from him and are able to make informed decisions, rather than regret their decision later.
I plan to add a link to your (very helpful) thread in my signature in the hopes that it gains some increased visibility.
The thing is, as Jeff said, is that he is posting those numbers on the thread of his volition. JeffbCrandell I believed used to do the same when he ran a store. I think I cant really comment as much on this, as Jeff pretty much said what I wanted to on the thought.
It's not clear that we're even allowed to post much about this, since rancored_elf is well liked by the people who run this site and all discussion of his sales practices were deleted from the thread that he posts using his sales data. What does this even mean? For that matter, is there some definition of "spam" out there that means "contrary to my personal opinion?" Because this was on topic, relevant, and not sarcastic.
Where exactly should I discuss this? And why was my post about this issue singled out as "spam?"
Edited to add - More posts about rancored_elf (ones critical of his business practices) are being deleted from his thread, while responses to those posts which praise rancored_elf are being left.
He's been added to the list. If you have issue, take it to his pm or to a mod's pm. This thread is intended for what the title states and NOT harping on "Oh, the mods are in his back pocket". Rules state to report posts that break the rules, which I continue to do so.
Also, as to not let the person think I missed it, I will add Dan Bock to the list as well. I have seen similar things stated about him before and have seen him be rude to customers, while knowing he is in the clear because his approval rating is so high.
Also, I added a piece from a gathering magic article. While not exactly, per se, directly linked to the content of the thread, if you own a store, I feel like reading the 4 main "rules" is important. The underlined parts are of special note to me. The first one eliminates 95-99% of issues. The second part is more of a warning if you think you'll be fine losing people's trust.
Regran Cards and Collectibles in Manila, Philippines will refuse to sell you cards at the listed price if they realize the card was not removed from the binder after a recent spike. Example: I went in there today and was looking through their dollar binder (50 pesos). There were two copies of Glittering Wish in there. As soon as I pulled them out the owners exchanged looks and refused to complete the sale. The male owner even had the nerve to say they were actually his 'personal cards', part of his modern deck, and were never for sale to begin with! I was very disappointed and I will not shop there again. Filipino players beware!
Have another to add:
Ebay name: stardustshop
site: stardustshop.de
"New message from: stardustshop
i'm sorry, but i don't ship single cards in these quantities.
klaus joede - stardustshop"
It was for fatestitcher on ebay. Tried to get it cancelled by ebay first by saying we don't agree on terms. I declined stating that I agree to all his terms in the listing and expect the same from him. He just simply refunded my money then after ebay said I declined it and he should send.

It was for fatestitcher on ebay. Tried to get it cancelled by ebay first by saying we don't agree on terms. I declined stating that I agree to all his terms in the listing and expect the same from him. He just simply refunded my money then after ebay said I declined it and he should send.
