They added 2 blocks from the last one, it'll be 8th Edition through Scars of Mirrodin. So no Innistrad block (no liliana of the veil, which means she should be reprinted soon).
The MSRP for the packs is only $7, where as it's $10 in paper. No word yet on if this is another classic WotC typo.
What do you guys think? Any good spec opportunities here, besides selling your current modern staples? Liliana should probably go up in the short term.
They'll have to reprint basically every valuable card from 8th-Scars of Mirrodin (including those already reprinted in Modern Masters) to justify that price increase.
I think Hurkyl's Recall will drop hard if it is in MMA2.
It's not a particularly high demand card and people forget it's Modern legal (although it is legitimately playable in the sideboard of blue decks that can't manage Ancient Grudge or Stony Silence). But it is in extremely short supply on MTGO.
As an MM2 rare I can't see it holding a value over 2 tickets despite it being 30-35 now and having reached 58 recently.
Noble Heirarch is a definite sell as well. I can't see any way that card will not be in MM2 at rare.
What do you think the implications are that WotC is making the $3 price adjustment for online. No matter what once the dirt settles the pack value will be under the store value as long as its in print. Do you think they've run the EV, or do you think the lower price point is going to justify a crappy payout in the draft queues?

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I feel like the $7 price point online is for a few reasons:
1. There's no threat of the player base buying up all the supply and gouging each other for the packs, since there's no "print run" or supply issues for the online packs.
2. Online cards are inherently worth less than their paper counterparts, especially when there's no opportunity for redemption.
In general, though, in paper, I think (and hope) that the print run will be big enough this time that people will lose money if they just horde the first shipment of boosters and try to raise the price. I'm hoping "limited print run" is just Wizards trying to make it sound like they won't print the ***** out of this set.

I read an interesting theory on reddit that they are unlikely to reprint a cycle of rare lands. They would rather save cycles of rare lands to sell standard sets. That means filter lands are unlikely to get reprinted, but those lands aren't that good anymore with the printing of allied fetch lands.
Short and long-term I feel like this has to suppress Goyf's value. Look what happened to it last time their was a fb draft and now just imagine that elongated. They will always be able to bring back these drafts whenever they feel as well. I'm not quite sure where it settles however.
I bought my MMA gofys for 40-44 tickets a piece the first week of MMA drafts. I'd imagine MMA2 goyfs will be within 10 tix of that price range. Goyfs will go back up in price after the draft format is over since it's a staple of non rotating formats.
40 at the time was about a 30-40% drop. Would you put a price target on it at 30% off of current, or do you see it getting back to 50ish?

Well I bought them from humans for 40-44, bots probably had them for 50 and they only went up in price after that. I think they'll be in the 30-50 range the first week. I can't guess on how to buy at the bottom at goyf. But I can tell you the card is worth 50 tix. It's so powerful in modern, and pretty good in legacy (unplayable in vintage though).

How low it gets will be driven by how popular MM2 draft is.

Yes. Players have gotten spoiled by "good" draft formats and are reluctant to play crappy ones, even for the pack lottery. With that said, I expect this set to be a good format, a bit more gimmicky than MM1 was. Also keep in mind that the bottom for a playable card won't be at the end of drafts but a week to 10 days before as people try to "feel" the bottom.

It's a lot of paper talk, but the "cards i'm buying now" is pretty solid. I don't agree with all of them, but it's a good talking point.
The Tarmogoyf lotto will sell paper packs at the higher price.
