This set's value is going to crash hard. Sarkhan Unbroken is not playable in any format but EDH, and Narset is a fine Planeswalker but I think people will realize she is a gimmick planesalker. Limited is going to be who builds the best B/x deck, or gets the most insane U/W flier deck or G/W deck.
Here's to hoping you are right! I am kicking myself for not pre-ordering at $6 last week.
$6 is a good deal to you? I look at this and see a classic SAT comparison.
What Dark Confidant is to Pain Seer, Vengevine is to __________.
A) Dark Confidant
B) Pain Seer
C) Deathmist Raptor
D) All of the above.
1. $6 is less than $15. I will be getting 4 of these, and I and would much rather pay the former than the latter.
2. We can play Vengevine in standard?!?

Just saying that people are making the comparison between a known powerhouse and an unknown something that looks like crap. It might be playable, but I see a card that relies on a deck full of crap to work. Not usually the sign of amazing.
what do people have with this guy? he just seems bad for me.
he basicly is a 3/3 deathtouch for 3. thats not really good. and how many times people expect to use his second abbility? i mean there are zero morphs around in standard. the only way to use this is mastery of the unseen.... im just not sure how he can be any good...
I started playing an Abzan Mastery deck about a week before the GW Mastery decks won Miami. With Grim Haruspex, Sultai Emissary, Mastery of the Unseen, and Hooded Hydra there are plenty of opportunities to return him from the graveyard. And that works perfectly well at my store, where everyone and their gd mom plays every version of control you can imagine.

You won't get any disagreement from me here. Seems to me like there's exactly one, serious deck to play this card in at the moment (GW devotion).
And that's not even a given.
Without it, there would be only two card worth more than 10$. Something had to go up. As it looks now, they've not broken the curse of the 3rd set.
This isn't the third set. This is the first set in a new block. What used to occur to the 'late spring' release no longer applies moving forward. The idea that so many people are still looking at this like a third set means buying opportunity to me.

Khans and Fate Reforged will rotate out of standard before Dragons and Origins
It sits at an odd place because it is a 3 set block, and the final one at that, which makes it a bit of the odd man out in rotation. The second set in the block after the return to Zendikar will push Dragons and Origins out of standard, and I think that is why he stated that it is a buying opportunity because it will rotate out of standard after the rest of the Khans block, and that may make buying it actually in many ways more viable than are easy to see.

The right idea but you have the names wrong. Everything is now a 2 set block, starting with Khans.
Theros rotates out this October. Khans and Fate Reforged Rotate out next February. Dragons and M16 (origins) rotate out next October.
What causes the 'third set syndrome' is that it is played the shortest. Dragons has the opposite reality -- it is in standard as long as any other first-set block, which is now 18 months approximately.

Thanks for the correction, I was trying to figure out how to explain it properly.
It's still a 3rd set. Rotation is no different than in the old days. It is the first 2 sets that rotate early not the 3rd set rotating late.
It is drafted with FRF and has the same mechanics (mostly) as the rest of the block. It's an awkward rotation, the set is not streamlined to be part of Magic Origins.
It is amazing to think Fate Reforged will only be legal about a year. Hello Ugin, Goodbye Ugin.
I'm just looking at things from an Abzan perspective. Dromoka's Command helps you fight Goblin Rabblemaster and makes your opponent sacrifice Chained to the Rocks, Outpost Siege and Jeskai Ascendancy. Of course you gotta keep the command in against Whip of Erebos. I'm sure we've all lost to the life gain from a resolved whip before, can be impossible to out race. Against Sultai you board it out for Display of Dominance which counters removal spells and kills Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver.
I do like some of the Dragonlords but mythic rares that cost 6+ mana do not make 4 of constructed cards which means their worth is very limited.
Thunderbreak Regent is bad. No haste, sure it punishes your opponent for removing it but you're still behind on tempo because they take 3 to save 4. They should have pushed it with haste, missed opportunity.
I might do a little more shopping before the week is out. Anything that is constructed playable is going to shoot up by massive amounts due to the low starting box value.
One thing is really killing this set. No rare land cycle. Just makes it absolutely horrible.

Couldn't disagree more with this. I think the value is only being held back by it being a 1 of in the event deck. I think this is a stellar card that will see a good amount of standard play.
Though I agree on the rare land cycle. It's a shame to see the rare land cycle in the second set of a block as opposed to the first. I guess they changed the block structure too far after this was underway.

I wasn't making comments on the price. I have tested it and found it to be bad. It dies to Abzan Charm and has no haste. Stormbreath Dragon is still better and it's awkward trying to play both in the same deck. If you want a flying creature for the same cost play Ashcloud Phoenix, still bad against Abzan Charm but at least has game against destroy effects.

This article explains it better: http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/mm/metamorphosis
Look closer to the bottom, there is a moving diagram of it, which does it more clearly than my convoluted summary.

So the only DTK cards I could bring myself to preorder so far have been 3x Dromoka's Command and a bunch of uncommons such as Display of Dominance.

As it is it's a High Sentinels of Arashin with 1 more starting power.
Rancored Elf will cancel your order if prices go up. Read about him and other shady vendors here.
My Trade Thread!
No, seriously. I can't believe how many times I heard "He has lifelink?" about that guy last weekend.
