Hey rancored and any other big sellers here. Do you all open boxes for singles you sell?
While I no longer deal with that anymore, I used to open 150-200 boxes of each new magic set when they came out to make sure the shop I owned/operated the magic singles for and for my ebaying was fully supplied. Over time trades/cash buying of standard cards will help keep up with things later on for when I was at the shop, sometimes for particularly hot sellers to keep them in stock required buying some singles online to restock, but thankfully was typically a rarer issue. For the majority of sellers when a set has just released though, yes most/all of our singles come from opening boxes, eventually mtgo set redemptions are an option when those become available for redemption but that's 1 1/2-2 months down the line from the paper release date.
I only need 25 or so boxes per set lately (did 60+ when the economy was better), but yeah I open them all myself, sometimes with the help of my gf. It can seem like a chore sometimes but I try and keep it fun.
So I'm waiting for Athreos to plunge. Nobody is playing it. Keranos in UWR control is seeing a lot more play.
Iroas hasn't been seen at all. Pharika has been here and there in BG dredge decks. Kruphix is the commander god for this set so nobody expect him to be standard playable.
Keranos
Pharika
Athreos
Iroas
Kruphix
That's how I would rank them.
I've seen Mana Confluence all over the place and it still has some potential for other formats long term. I'm not sure why the price is dropping so low. Patrick Chapin went the full playset in his PT victory. With lifegain on the radar it's not a bad card.
Godsend is this sets big loser. What do you do with it exactly? It's not a threat by itself which is exactly what is wrong with most god cards.
At this point it's looking like the best (non-land) card in the set is Banishing Light and anything else is just pure post rotation speculation.
People are still buying it though and plenty of it so clearly Wizards hasn't failed. Drafting and prize support obviously keeps the revenue flowing.
I'm not exactly a spike myself I just don't want to feel ripped off when I spend my money on Magic cards. It feels like I lose money every time I open a booster and that just doesn't feel right to me.
I definitely didn't call this set right myself. If 'felt' better than born but that didn't help prices any. I think the gods just took up too much mythic space in the small sets.
Not very excited to even do $13-$15 drafts anymore if the payout is just packs.
On the investment side look for this set to be very short short compared to Theros. Conspiracy will eat up a good bit of June drafting and after that it is on to M15. I say banishing light is the the big winner here and might be $3 next year if it isn't in M15. And of course get your lands.
Look out for other common/uncommons from this set but I don't see anything worth mentioning.
(previous tallies are located in the following posts: 1, 13, 14, 35, 39)
Surprising price stability at this point:
1) Ajani Mentor of Heroes (21) / / / /
2) Athreos God of Passage (15) / / / /
3) Mana Confluence (13) / / / /
4) Temple of Malady (8.5) / / / /
5) Prophetic Flamespeaker (8) / / / /
6) Iroas God of Victory (7) / / / /
7) Godsend (6.5) / / / /
8) Keranos God of Storms (6.5) / / / /
9) Temple of Epiphany (6) / / / /
10) Kruphix God of Horizons (5) / / / /
11) Master of the Feast (5) / / / /
12) Pharika God of Affliction (5) / / / /
13) Eidolon of Blossoms (3)
The card's most recent move is on right. means no movement. is a card that wasn't on the list last update. This is the update's hottest mover. (#) is price in CND incl. shipping here.
There are now 13 cards worth $3 or more, and therefore worth opening in a booster pack, as Eidolon of Blossoms popped onto the tally.
Prices across the board remained fairly stable, and several cards actually rose in price since last week. Ajani and Mana Confluence were up a buck after falling from their presale highs. The Temples are strong (as are the ones from the other sets) and Flamespeaker even moved up 50 cents. Pharika fell a dollar and the gods were weak overall - I think players have realized they're just not quite good enough for serious constructed play, with a few exceptions. I was shocked to see the green Eidolon show up on the tally, and what's more, the red one is only 25 cents behind. Are they seeing some serious play? Another note, Silence the Believers went from $1 to $2 recently.
It seems to me that prices aren't falling as rapidly as they could be, or have with past sets. One possible reason for this is that the price drop typical of this time in a set's cycle is due to huge amounts of product being opened to dump on the market. I wonder if this set's lackluster reputation has led to a lot less of it being opened than normal. If that's the case, we could discuss what it might mean for price trends going forward. One thing it would definitely do is cause the chase uncommons (and to a lesser degree the rares) end up quite a bit pricier than they would have been otherwise. Uncommons and rares suffer badly when a set gets opened en masse primarily for the top value cards (mythics). Maybe Banishing Light is going to end up fairly pricey. I've been giving them away for 50c or a buck, but they're at least $2 each on eBay, and if the set doesn't get opened much, they'll probably be more than that (until reprint).
Box value shows JiN still higher than any other Standard set. As Theros and Born have dropped a bit recently, it seems JiN is either holding steady or even perhaps moving up a bit. I'd be interested to hear if Jeff and others notice the same things?
Also of note, Eidolon of Blossoms popped up in the SCG Somerset open in G/W devotion piloted by Osyp. He pulled off something a tad bit ridiculous out of nowhere, and I'm assuming people want to try something similar. Didn't end up doing well overall, but being on camera and doing something powerful with it probably helped out it out.
Thanks guys. Looks like both Eidolons are "worth opening in a booster pack" now ($3 to $3.5) so they'll be included when I update the tally next.
It's interesting because many people thought these 2 cards would do well, although they were down below $2 a week ago. I wonder if either or both will catch on and end up doing well long term?
It's a fun card with Mana Bloom but what about when that rotates?
To me it's a flavor of the month and not a real power card.
I think it will maintain value so long as some sort of enchantment - based control or pillow fort deck remains viable. While Mana Bloom's ability to cycle over two turns is nice, I think the ability to make some sort of wall with enchantments or enchantment creatures is the more critical part of its value, particularly considering there's at least one card in block that lets you return an enchantment to your hand each of your turns. I don't know about being in Bant colors, but I'd be happy to recast oppressive rays or aqueous form every turn just to draw a card. Or even better, an enchantment that cantrips, so I can draw two cards... I think its value will hold unless next block or M15 introduce an aggressively costed enchantment board wipe.
Yeah it should maintain a decent price (Eidolon of Blossoms). There were some decks at the Block Constructed Pro Tour. Then at SCG recently, some BG and Junk Constellation decks did well and Eidolon is a 4 of in all of these lists. On that topic, does anyone think that Doomwake Giant can get into the $3 barrier? It seems to be at around $0.50 right now and I know that there is a PR Promo one, but it seems like a good card and THE finisher of choice in BG Constellation.

I don't understand how Doomwake Giant could ever be playable in constructed. Not even as a 1-of in janky decks. Am I missing something? 5 mana needs to get you a long way toward winning the game, if not winning it.
As for "EoB is a 2/2 for 4", that means nothing. Many powerful creatures are the same way. Card drawing engines shouldn't be overlooked, especially ones that only cost 4 mana and always replace themselves when you cast them.
"Deicide was the cheap JOU card I did end up speccing on."
Oh dang, sorry to hear about that! It has fallen from $5 to $2
Even when it was going for $5 everywhere, I had it at $2 (shipped) on my website. Still haven't sold a single copy. Dropping to $1.5 now.
I rarely speculate but the cards I bulked up on around prerelease time were: both temples at $3 each, both Eidolons at $2 each. So far the Eidolons are up slightly and the Temples have more than doubled, but trust me, that's better than I normally do. I find it best not to speculate at all because 95% of all singles will drop. You really have to know what you're doing (or luck out) to profit that way.

Sorta tells you how weak Standard is at the moment.
My understanding of Doomwake Giant is that A) its a relatively big dude that's an enchantment (thus triggering Constellation for Eidolon of Blossoms) B) On it's own it can clear out Elspeth tokens and C) the decks that play it can often trigger it multiple times per turn (mostly due to the cards Eidolon is drawing). Having two in play can make quick work of your opponents board.
All that said, it's applications are probably limited to whatever BGx Enchantment-centric deck may exist. So, it may gain a little bit, but given the large-ish supply and limited application, it probably doesn't have a huge amount of room to grow.
Having two in play can make quick work of your opponents board.
Yeah, but plus 2 copies of the Giant plus other enchantments in hand and mana to cast them........... I sure hope that would have some effect.
I'm just not seeing it. But yes, if "the black enchantmentcreature deck" makes metagame waves, I'd expect to see a couple copies of this in there, and it could go from 50c to $1.
You can't get it out in the early game when you have cards in hand to take advantage of the ability. I guess maybe as a combo with Eidolon of Blossoms, but then your manabase is an issue, and even if it works out well that's a 3 card combo at best. And it doesn't even win you the game, it just shrinks your opponent's creatures and draws you cards.
Green Eidolon seems to be about $3 right now, with upward momentum.
Red Eidolon a bit less, maybe $2.5
The green Eidolon is selling regularly for $11.99 to $12.99 for BiN auctions on eBay. I just sold a set overnight for $12.99.
Will this hold? I don't really imagine so. Players love Enchantress decks and I think a lot of people want it desperately to work in standard, but I'm not quite sure it'll hold. If the Eidolon of Blossoms were CMC 3 it might actually make waves long term, but unless they bring back Rancor or something similar, I can't see it surviving with current support.
I'm also starting to think that Temple of Malady might be the most expensive rare in this set post-rotation. The best cards in standard are, for the most part, black and green. B/G mid range or maybe jund is going to be a thing post-rotation.

It looks like people are playing it but the question is "Is it doing well enough?" to me the answer is no.
It's a 4 mana 2/2. Nobody has any idea what the metagame will look like post rotation but I'm betting a 4 mana 2/2 is just too small a creature.
They over costed it to stop it being too powerful.
