Welcome once again to the Running Tally thread, this time for Journey into Nyx. The purpose of Running Tallies is to keep a visual record of prices and trends of singles in the set, to help players, traders, and dealers get more information and a better feel for what's going on in the market. I've been doing such threads for several years now, and learn a lot from it myself in the process. If you have similar data to post here, please do, especially if it's more than just a static price list. Please keep your comments on the topic of Journey into Nyx (singles and overall set) prices and trends.

The card's most recent move is on right. means no movement. is a card that wasn't on the list last update. This is the update's hottest mover. (#) is price in CND incl. shipping here.
14 cards worth $3 or more, and therefore worth opening in a booster pack, makes this a very short Tally. In fact, it's one of the shortest of all time, coincidentally matching Born's 14 card tally a few months ago. Theros began with 38.
Ajani takes top spot by a dollar here in the first update, and I think he's likely to remain there. He's got casual appeal ("100" makes people get all happy), as well as likely some competitive play. His closest competition is Athreos, but it's hard to imagine a God maintaining a $20+ pricetag. The effect reminds me of Gleancrawler's, although that one can't be countered by your opponent paying life, and it doesn't trigger until end of turn. I think Athreos is playable, I'm just not sure where, and to what extent. In any case, it will probably cool from $22 at least somewhat. Mana Confluence is an interesting one and I'm not sure where it will go, but I'm confident it will remain top rare, and well above $10. Godsend to me is a white-decks-only, legendary Vulshok Battlegear with a slight upside controlled by your opponents. In other words, I don't think it's all that good. Iroas may be the God of Winning, but he's lost quite a bit of value coming off early hype already, and it makes me smile that he dies to cheap commons like Grasp of Darkness. He's great on paper but see him cooling from $10 to $6 or so. Keranos comes in at 6th place. His effect is potent, but he's expensive and not very large as a creature, so I can see him coming down too. Prophetic Flamespeaker is red so it will surely lose at least half its current value. At 8th we've got Pharika, with a strong body and an ability that is tougher to gauge. If I had to guess I'd say she will stay around the same price level, perhaps come down to $5. Both scrylands are quite valuable, with Golgari just ahead of Izzet. I see all the scrylands doing well and as rares adding good value to the block. Kruphix (the giant Spellbook) looks weak to me. High mana cost, small size, and weird ability. Unlikely to remain on the Tally for long, IMO. Master of the Feast is quite a fatty! Indentured Djinn comes to mind. I note that Master dishes the cards out later, which is a good thing, as is being 5/5 rather than 4/4. Also worth noting is Master forces the card draws, which sometimes makes a difference. This one's future will mainly depend on what Standard decks play (or don't play) him. Sage of Hours is an overcosted 1/1 with an ability you really have to build around and work hard for, so I'm really not impressed and find it hard to believe it's on the Tally at all. Eidolon of Blossoms actually barely deserves the $3 price point (eBay says $2 is more reasonable) but I wonder if it's underrated. I think most people are evaluating it mostly in the context of other cards from the block, ie, "does it play well with the enchantment creatures?" But it looks playable in some builds of Legacy enchantress decks to me - quite an amazing follow up to a second turn enchantress. When it gets played it will be as a 3 or 4-of, as multiples are very strong, and green decks have no trouble with 4 mana.
Just South of the list sits Aegis of the Gods, Eidolon of the Great Revel, Worst Fears, Deicide, Dictate of Erebos, Dictate of Kruphix, and Extinguish All Hope. Of those, Deicide probably SHOULD be on the Tally (eBay has it at $4) but I just can't bring myself to charge more than two bucks (shipped). It's Erase for twice the mana, and a TINY, narrow bonus. What are people thinking? Minor sideboard useage in block/Standard, at best. Banishing Light at $1 seems to be the top uncommon. Not a lot of value in the uncommons or commons from what I can see. A lot of 25c crap rares in the set, too. There are a few cards I like that aren't doing well right now, such as Dictate of Karametra and Nyx-Fleece Ram.
Box value is currently higher than Theros or Born, but will settle rapidly to somewhere below Theros's value, perhaps close to that of Born.
Things move quickly at this point in the set's lifecycle, so you'll see an update here within 48h. Thanks for your participation!
What are everyone's thoughts regarding Eidolon of the Great Revel? It has a repeating effect that dodges Duress, forcing discard decks to play Thoughtseize over Duress for a more catch-all discard spell, and it can also attack. In larger formats, it will cause opponents to get shocked every time they want to remove it, causing burn decks to get that much closer to winning. I don't see anything that makes this card a bad card.
Eidolon of the Great Revel is quite playable in modern and legacy. And that's where it should be played. I'd look for it to go very low during it's standard run. Eidolon of Blossoms isn't remotely playable in legacy; as for modern, I doubt it but you never know. Deicide is a very good card right now; Erase is not legal in standard so there is no use comparing it. Instant speed white enchantment removal is highly wanted. I see Mana Confluence dropping to the 5-8 range; it's highly overrated right now in basically all formats. Sage of Hours has some very real casual/creative FNMers demand, but it's hard to imagine it doing well. I'm pretty high on Master of the Feast; it's been pretty good for people so far, though I doubt it'll rise above 8.
Also, every large set should have more cards on the tally then every small set, due to many more cards being in the set.
50% more cards should not yield 200% more value cards. I think we were spoiled by Theros. Even if there is not the money in it, JiN feels much better received than Born. That and the god packs may keep people opening it. But it will be shorted by the limited draft time. So pick up the scry lands now. I see the ones from this set being the most expensive, maybe $10+ in the fall.
Ajani will nosedive to ~$12ish. Not Ral or Vraska level but I think it will stay one step behind Kiora and 2 behind Elspeth. 5 mana and gold make it a tough sell. Lots of people may want to try out the 100 life for edh, but the standard applications are very narrow.
Godsend is headed for $5 territory. Most white decks don't want that and it looks like the Boros decks are going super aggro/burn since the god is a bust.
Athreos will come down some but I think it will stick in the top spot after rotation. Gold cards are tricky to be expensive but Orzhov has supported Blood Baron and Obzedat. I am expecting a lot of B/W brews in the future.
Worst fears, Eidelon of Blossoms, and Eidelon of the Great Reveal should cling to the low end, and they will get play after their standard time.
I am predicting a Desecration Demon curve for Master of the Feast. He'll start by surging to $8ish and then everyone will remember the best black deck right now is control, he'll drop to $2 but will rebound when an innovative brew comes alone. Either the master or Herald of Torment will end up worth something decent, but probably not both.
Disciple of Deceit is an uncommon I feel that has a chance to stay nicely out of bulk. Probably $1, and after Jin goes out of print it will be look for as it has such a unique ability. Banishing Light will get a mega ton of reprints, probably starting with M16 , but maybe sooner M15?, so ride the standard value train with it.
I would rather have 4 Master of the Feast @ $4 than Athreos. I think he will take the biggest tumble.
Ajani will come down to Kiora range, but not lower. Why? Because people LOoooovvve GW. It's totally irrational. In a set where the main deck is packing 4 sideboard cards, people keep trying to butt heads with top dog using a Tier 3 deck. For that reason alone, Ajani stays high.
And NOT picking up 4 Eidolons (red and green) is a mistake. If you are a long term player, these are no brainers. Along with Temples of course and sadly, while it's in rotation, 2-4 Mana Confluence (probably closer to 2).
Green eidolon has a lot of potential, not for the card itself, but rather for the build-around-me idea, which standard has very few cards like this (other than obvious devotion builds). It's an engine card, which is pretty much non-existent. I'm not calling it good or bad, but the idea has potential. There's probably going to be decent demand for it even if it turns out to suck, just like sage of hours screams 'break me!'. You can get playsets of green eidolon under $10, and I don't think it's a bad target.
Speaking of cards that suck, that's Godsend. Terrible equipment, but in a block devoid of equipment, it stands out. It pretty much reads +3/+3 and unblockable, while swords read +2/+2 and block-this-if-you-can-or-you're-going-to-have-a-bad-time. I said it in a previous thread, but I think Grafted Wargear is stronger than this card. It won't have any standard impact, though with all the hype, I know people will be playing it anyways. People talking about putting it on a hexproof guy or whatever, but does it really matter what pants are put on a hexproof guy? It's going to be fine regardless of what it is. I think casual demand will keep it from becoming a bulk mythic, but I'd sell every Godsend I had at $10 if I could.
Ajani's not very good (he's not terrible though), but on turn five I'd rather be making a guy, or dropping small Ajani and giving my guy flying and double strike and killing someone. Hype will keep him inflated, but that's not a surprise to anyone.
Master of the Feast is sort of meh. It's a hard drawback, especially when he still needs 4 turns of connecting to kill someone by himself, so that's 4 extra cards. My only experience with him so far is in limited, so I won't say he's good or bad, but I'll just say I like desecration demon more, though I suppose curving into both is pretty sweet.
Eidolon of the Great Revel - Yeah I do like it. 2/2 for 2 and an ability in red has to be at least looked at. But with the vulnerability of being an enchantment, is the effect really worth it? In some formats, yeah. I dunno, I think it's one to watch. It sure punishes a lot of strategies, and does it fairly well for the cost. Most decks that would run it will also be heavily punished by it, but of course they can work around it.
Why is Mana Confluence supposedly dropping to the 5-8 range? Will it really see only as much play as any 1 of the Temples? Across all formats plus casual? I don't think it can hit 5-8 unless it gets reprinted in M15, and even then, $5 seems more humorous than anything to me.
I agree with a lot of the other stuff that has been posted since my OP, but I'm wondering about Disciple of Deceit. Obviously the Inspired ability is what makes this card playable (1/3 vanilla otherwise), and I'm having trouble seeing Inspired ever really taking off. Unless you build your deck around making this guy untap without first attacking, the only way to make the effect happen is to attack, survive combat, and wait until next turn. All that for the chance to improve the quality of cards in your hand? And very conditional depending on what you've got in hand to discard - if you have no cards (or only lands) he's useless. If you only have cards of a converted mana cost that doesn't help you, he's useless. To me it seems like it's tough to set up the ability, and tough to make it matter even when it goes off. Some minor older format play perhaps. What am I not seeing?
Inspired is just bad, as far as keywords go. Without jumping through hoops you first get an effect two turns after you play your guy, which is a very long time to wait.
Mana Confluence will basically see 0 play in modern (see City of Brass, which is functionally identical in that format and sees no play), some play in legacy (but not enough to impact non foil prices significantly), and some play in standard (mainly as 1-2 in tri color midrange, or 4 of in a couple tier 2/3 decks). I think it'll see less play in standard then Temple of Enlightenment does.
Played with Eidolon of the Great Revel today. Great card, and hoses Storm so hardcore. One thing to mention though, counterable with Swan Song. How many should be played? Not sure, testing it still. I would watch this guy for the long run.
Most of the set is pure crap. I like Dakra Mystic for a long term price wise. I picked up the cheap Gods in foils for long term investment cause EDH players will want pimped ones (all but Athreos).
I tested mana confluence and drawing multiples suck BAD early game. If your deck gains life reliably (GW); it's OK. BW seems like a serious challenge. Value wise, I see it following Reflecting pool price history as it at least enters the field untapped.
Godsend is ok in GW but only as a one of. Equipping to voice tokens after verdict is nice. In BW it sucks as you can't equip it to Blood Baron, who needs it most.

There are still 14 cards worth $3 or more, and therefore worth opening in a booster pack.
Ajani and Athreos fell a buck or two each, Mana Confluence stayed strong at $15 for third spot, Godsend shows signs of cooling, the Gods looked pathetic, and the Temples were solid. I won't give a play by play on the rest of the cards this time around since I just did a detailed one a couple days ago.
Box value is dropping quickly already, and isn't much above Theros even though the set just came out and won't finish settling in price for months. In fact, you'd be better off opening a box of Return to Ravnica or Gatecrash right now - perhaps even a box of M14.

There are now just 12 cards worth $3 or more, and therefore worth opening in a booster pack, as Sage of Hours and Eidolon of Blossoms fell just below the cutoff.
This set's 2 scrylands both gained in value since yesterday, with Temple of Malady increasing from $7 to $9, and many sellers appear to be sold out right now at $11. I see that other scrylands such as Temple of Plenty are also on the move upward right now.
In terms of value, JiN is like gin - 40% legit and 60% watered down. So pour yourself a shot, and hope to see Ajani or a land in your rare slot.

TCG Player has many Epiphany's at $5.50 and Malady's at $7. In fact just picked up a Malady not 10 minutes ago for $6.20 incl shipping. Not sure who is charging and getting $11.

Have a look at the text you quoted. It contains a link. That should get you back up to speed
I just brought up the disciple because the ability is fairly powerful. A U/B/X deck can easily be filled with cheap creatures/removal spells 1-3 cmc. Even though I think inspired is very bad I expect the 3 toughness to be important, and springleaf drum is around right now too. Not a huge upside but this set is looking to be opened very shallowly, so popping to $1 is quite possible down the road.
Disciple may increase in the future, sure. And it may benefit from the set not being opened all that much. But if you're trying to trade in and out for a profit, would picking a mythic, or even rare, be a better strategy? Because wouldn't mythics benefit all the more from the fact the set won't be opened much? Find an undervalued mythic and sink some money into that, if you're confident that low supply is going to magnify gains in JiN's singles. I mean you rarely see people investing in commons, even if they feel the set will appreciate in value. Uncommons are perhaps slightly doable with this strategy, but rare and mythic are the most likely to yield results worthy of the time you're putting in. For example, perhaps the undervalued uncommons will double in price in the next few years, the rares will triple, and the mythics will quadruple? Just an example.
But yeah, maybe people will play the Disciple with the Drum, then wait till next turn to untap and trigger Inspire, and then discard a card to search for a card with the same mana cost? I won't be bothering with that "combo" but then again I don't play much Standard. What I've noticed is that the Disciple was heavily hyped and going for a buck, but when the set came out it cooled, and now almost nobody is talking about it and it's in the junk uncommon bin with most of the rest of the set's uncommons. Maybe people found out it wasn't as playable as they'd thought? Maybe something will be printed soon that will boost its effectiveness.
Looks like Banishing Light is around 1.25 right now, speaking of uncommons. I had it at 50c because I see it being reprinted a zillion times in the next few years, but it was selling too quickly so I put it up to a buck. Brain Maggot, Nyx-Fleece Ram, and Dakra Mystic are 50c each. Not much else to mention in the way of uncommons right now.
As for Temple of Malady which we were discussing yesterday, I'm checking up on the price right now, and I see eBay has playsets (Buy it Now) for $44 plus shipping, and up. There are a few single copies for $6 or so, but they're either from sketchy sellers, or the seller only has 1 copy for sale, or the shipping cost is $5+ per card, or a combination of the above. That tells me the card is going for at LEAST $8 right now, and up to $11 and beyond. Checking Starcitygames, they are sold out at $10 plus shipping. Cheaper singles sites seem to have a few copies left around $7 plus shipping, from what I can tell. If anyone has more data feel free to mention it here, thanks guys!
I played a disciple deck at last friday's FNM and crushed pretty hard with it. Though I think it was more pain seer's usage rather than disciple, but they were both quite powerful. I'll post a list in the standard forum when I get home.

What am I not seeing?
.
Cheers
It looked exciting on the outside but when you dig deeper looking for something really good all you find is Ajani.
At least BTG had Brimaz and Kiora. So to me that makes it 2 to 1 against JOU.
This set is so not worth buying in packs. So sad.
Multiplayer Decks- Memnarch - Animar, Soul of Elements - Zur, the Enchanter - Atraxa, Praetors' Voice - Food Chain Tazri - Teysa Karlov
Modern BUMill and Bant Spirits.
Thank you Xenphire for the signature!

The card's most recent move is on right. means no movement. is a card that wasn't on the list last update. This is the update's hottest mover. (#) is price in CND incl. shipping here.
In fact, you'd be better off opening a box of Return to Ravnica or Gatecrash right now - perhaps even a box of M14.
.
The Temples burst upward as the rest of the set drifts lower:
1) Ajani Mentor of Heroes (22) /
2) Athreos God of Passage (20) /
3) Mana Confluence (14) /
4) Temple of Malady (9) /
5) Godsend (8.5) /
6) Iroas God of Victory (8.5) /
7) Keranos God of Storms (8) /
8) Prophetic Flamespeaker (8) /
9) Temple of Epiphany (7) /
10) Kruphix God of Horizons (6) /
11) Pharika God of Affliction (6) /
12) Master of the Feast (4.5) /
