Hey guys,I was wondering if anyone could give out some recommendations on the best places to buy magic cards peer to peer. I'm getting back into the swing of things after selling out a few years back, and I'm really surprised to see the sales post here has dwindled down to basically nothing when years back I established a very formidable collection almost solely off of sales threads on this website.
I know there's places such as Pucatrade and Cardsphere, but I don't really have anything to build up credit. Ebay is okay, but a lot of the times it's cheaper to just go through TCGplayer. I feel as though I had at least one other website for sales back in the day, but no way of remembering as I guess it wasn't bookmarked.
MOTL(Magic Online Traders League) is still going on, granted it has died down a lot from its heyday as well, but you may still be able to find some good stuff there. Pucatrade seems to be on its way out, so I would personally avoid that one.
Facebook groups are a popular place for it now. There's the high end group for cards valued $50+, the buy/sell/trade group run by the same people for cheaper stuff, and the sick deals group where everything has to be some percentage lower than TCGplayer low.

Please do not listen to that Young Quaker (might be inexperienced with Puca Trade). To build up cards to trade, I would check out local swapmeets/flea markets. Buy cards off of Craigslist & the apps OfferUp & Let Go. Have patience. The site isn't as fluid as it used to be to get trades. Ask others to do recip trades (90% will accept). Send out larger packages than receiving (try 20% to 30% more in value for the first month to build up resources). Then keep a steady flow of trades coming in & out. Honestly, that may sound like a lot of steps, but once you get the hang of things, the cards flow in while only spending $20 to $40 per month (eventually you'll be spending that much, but receiving $100 or in cards each month).
That sounds interesting, do you have any links to specific groups? Or is it something I should be looking for locally
You can search for the ones I mentioned. Plug "mtg high end," "mtg buy/sell/trade," or "mtg sick deals" into the search bar on facebook and they should be the first results. There are probably local groups (not in MA so I can't say for sure) but you're going to get a smaller pool of buyers and sellers. Nice to not have to deal with shipping though.

Thanks guys! I think from this I've pretty much found the best options I'm gonna get but if anyone else has some suggestions I'm happy to hear them
Don't know if it was picked up (was in the middle of my response), but the apps Offer Up, Let Go (and occasionally 5 Mile) have folks selling collections or individual cards. Check daily, as others will scoop up good deals.
This is also where you can find the "too good to be true" finds. I had one last week. Some couple's neighbor had passed away. The neighbor's children asked her to help sell off his Magic card collection. The couple didn't want to bother look up each card, so they said 50 cents each, and if you bought 100 cards, dropped down to 25 cents each. Well, as examples, I found 3 Aluren, a Palinchron, a Mirri's Guile, and an original print of No Mercy (some of the highlights, as there was a lot more). I spent $25 & walked away with about $300 in cards.
Actually, those apps did go a little overlooked so I'm glad you mentioned them again haha. For now, I'll mostly be sticking to MOTL, ebay, and mtg sick deals on facebook, which really does have some great pricing. Not into the idea of pucatrade yet, I'm focused more on specific cards than collection building. In my spare time though, I'll definitely be checking out things like craigslist, both those apps, and flea markets.
It might even be worth calling around to local thrift stores like Goodwill and Salvation Army since they also occasionally get collections donated to them. At my local Goodwill I saw that they had plastic bags behind the counter full of a random assortment of cards, each one easily had 200 to 300 cards in them and they were marked at $3.99. I got one on a whim and ended up with a lightly played Karn Liberated, an Eidolon of the great Revel, Darksteel Forge, Unwinding Clock, and a number of $1 uncommons like Wall of Omens and Genesis Chamber.
I am almost tempted to go back and see if they have any more packs left behind the counter.
