This was actually discussed briefly in the Standard Price Discussion thread.
The card was recently featured as a 4-of in a UW Midrange List, because the interaction with vigilance is really, really good. Although to be fair, Archangel of Tithes was also in Standard with Brave the Sands, and that interaction did nothing.
I'm not sure if the speculative price has staying power, but as with most buyouts, it's really annoying. Archangel of Tithes is a mythic angel from an underopened, Standard-legal set. That set currently only has 4 cards worth more than $10, and it's pretty hard to justify buying packs. In addition to its applications in Standard, Archangel of Tithes has a high casual demand, and it's also fringe-playable in Modern.
In essence, if you ever wanted this card at a reasonable price, that ship has probably sailed. I'm personally rooting a price trajectory like Angel of Serenity, but I suspect that it's going to be more like Archangel of Thune.
Playing millions of cards every turn... Slowly and systematically obliterating any chance my opponent has of winning... Clicking the multitude of locking mechanisms into place... Not even trying to win myself until turn 10+ once I have nigh absolute control... Watching my opponent desperately trying to navigate the labyrinthine prison that I've constructed... Seeing the light of hope fade and ultimately extinguished in an excruciatingly slow manner... THAT'S fun Magic.
We have 2-3 users that are dramatically making this thread incomprehensible and non-productive for anyone else to possibly join in the discussion. This needs to change.
Every time I see [ktkenshinx] post in here, I get the impression of a stern dad walking in on a bunch of kids trying to do something dumb and just shaking his head in disappointment.
Near Mint: The same as Slightly Played, but we threw some Altoids in the box we stored it in to cover up the scent of dead mice. Slightly Played: The base condition for all MTG cards. This card looks OK, but there’s one minor annoying ding in it that will always irritate and distract you whenever you draw it. Moderately Played: This card looks like it survived the Tet Offensive tucked inside the waistband of GI underwear. It may smell like it, too. Heavily Played: This card looks like the remains of Mohammed Atta’s passport after 9/11. It may be playable if you double-sleeve it to stop the chunks from falling out. The condition formerly known as "Washing Machine Grade" Damaged: This card is the unfortunate victim of a Mirrorweave/March of the Machines/Chaos Confetti/Mindslaver combo.
[M]aking counterfeit cards is the absolute height of dishonesty. Ask yourself this question: Since most people...are totally cool with the use of proxies...what purpose do [high] quality counterfeit cards serve?
If I were involved in that trade, I would want the expedition. I think it's got more long-term value than Jace.
Now, that said, If I were just going to buylist the cards for cash tomorrow, then I'd want the Jace.
SCG buys Jace, VP for $60.00 a pop and buys Expedition Deltas for $175.00, so.... do ze math.
Thank you for your reply as well
Glad to help. KnickM is usually very good about these kinds of things as well.
As for buying into the Eldrazi deck pre-spike, easy come easy go. I understand the hesitation as everyone who bought into that deck, or Splinter Twin, or Pod, or Blazing Shoal before that. If you're worried about the price of your cards tanking, you also have to worry about reprints doing the same thing.
My point to all of this is that there is going to be an element of risk to any card you own depending on how the meta works out and if Wizards reprints. I will also say that the risk of cards going into freefall is significantly smaller than what you see in standard.
By and large, whatever you buy for Modern will still hold value even after Wizards swings the ban hammer. It's somewhat less obvious with the Eldrazi deck, but most of the Splinter Twin deck (sans Twin) is still valuable. Most of the Pod deck is now CoCo Abzan. Staples in the format will continue to be worth having.
The real question is if JVP becomes a staple. At this point it's really unknown, but it is an exceptionally strong card in a color that right now isn't that great.
A lot of what you both have said makes sense. Thank you both for the insight
Ah geez. You're gonna give me a swelled head, Seal!
MaxC and Seal have both made good points, and there's not much to be grained from my repeating them. I will say that if you're worried about a reprint, you could try to get foils instead. Foils are generally more reprint-resistant. You could try to do 1:1 with the SDCC version, or your expedition for a prerelease and a pack foil. That's roughly equivalent.
Third party trading - I've done this; I got a foil Liliana of the Veil for about half of a modern Affinity deck. It's pretty simple - you pick someone trustworthy (someone well-respected on the forums, either a mod or someone with several thousand posts - someone who has a reputation for impartiality and whom both sides can trust) and both sides send their trades. You'll want to include some cash to cover the postage, and tips (a card or a couple extra bucks) are generally appreciated. They verify the contents, and send the cards to the right places. The peace of mind was definitely worth it for me.

Are Den Protector/Deathmist Raptor going to be a thing this standard season or should I sell now? They were everywhere before BFZ came out, why has no one played them for the last 6 months?
Outside out Bant and Jund decks, not really so far.
Angels are one of the most popular creature types, to the extent that there is a significant number of people who neither play Magic, nor collect it, but do buy Angel cards (Dragons are, according to WOTC, number one).
This popularity leads to WOTC trying to make better angels/dragons, and support for them (*cough* Kaalia *cough*).

Kytheon, Hero of Akros seems to be ticking up... he was $3/$5 low/mid at the beginning of the week, and now he's at $5/$6.65 low/mid right now.
I assume it's the same reason Archangel of Tithes spiked, because mono-white is looking solid in Standard, and there aren't many good 1-drops outside of Thraben Investigator?

Dragon hunter is better than terrible, but not much beyond that.

WTF, not he's $12?? What's going on?
He can't possibly go up much more than that unless other Mythics (*cough* *cough* Jace *cough*) dropped significantly in price.

Foils haven't adjusted at all. I guess if you need him might as well get foils since they're literally the same price.
Wow, an intro deck rare worth opening an intro deck for! Between that and the alt-art Pia and Kiran Nalaar, those intro decks had a pretty good run between DTK and Origins!
Okay, what the hell is going on here? Is there some sick combo that works off of this? Avacyn's Judgment? Devil's Playground? I can't pin this one down.

Todd Anderson made top 4 in yesterday's large SCG tournament, playing a sweet U/R control deck with Goggles and Fall of the Titans.

It is also pretty sweet to drop it and immediately double Lava Axe. You only have to discard one card (like an extra Goggles), and you can immediately kill two things. It is not often an expensive ramp spell lets you immediately clear the board - normally their lack of board impact is their biggest drawback.

It was fun to watch that deck play. It's bonkers when it gets going.
Avacyn is going nuts. She'll be rivaling JVP for most expensive standard mythic soon. I mean, why not - looking at Standard, white is obviously powerful. Declaration in Stone and Avacyn are going to be showing up in a TON of decks.
Lest we all forget, SOI doesn't have Expeditions and foil full art basics to soak up value like BFZ and OGW.

This is a very important thing to remember. A large part of the reason the cards from oath and battle were as inexpensive relatively speaking as they are, is because of the downward pressure on the rares/mythics from the added value gained from the full art lands, foil full art lands, and the expeditions, and the sheer amount of the set that was opened as a result of people going after such cards.
With Shadows over Innistrad, we are back to a normal set configuration (plus the added flip card situation). Without the gimmicks like we saw from the last two sets, the cards from this set are naturally going to hold a higher value simply due to supply/demand and the fact that normally the overall average box values tend to settle around $80-$100/box for the singles from the overall average box, and without extra things added in to soak up the value, all the value gets soaked up by the normal singles from the set, and thusly they will maintain a higher value (for the ones with real demand).
I cannot speak for long-term value for individual cards from the set, but seeing a few cards going up a good bit early on isn't too surprising, and a hot mythic like avacyn increasing a good bit early on also isn't too much of a surprise, though time will tell how viable she is for the long-term for standard and otherwise to see whether she is able to maintain a higher value.

Reality is only what man allows it to be. Few shape it so that many may accept it.
Also, is Avacyn overrated or does she have the potential to be format defining?

On the subject of Tracker, is it actually putting up results? Or are people just realizing that's its better in every way from Seer's Sundial?
