I've been sitting on some Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. Seems like new Gideon will make him even better, but fewer copies will be in demand, right? Should I unload them now or wait?
Ditch him at the first available opportunity. He's rotating out of standard in 5 months and he's about to start seeing the inevitable fade as such.

Ditch nonfoils as soon as you can. Pack foils and prerelease foils are probably a wash - I doubt they'll take much more of a downturn, but they aren't going to go above what they are now for a few years. And SDCC copies I'd say are still holds.

One of mine actually is a still-sealed Prerelease foil, so thanks for clarifying

Nice. There are some people who want to complete sealed sets, so the shrinkwrapped versions have a slight premium. Probably moreso, because I bet that anyone who opened a Gideon at the prerelease busted it open to put in their deck.

Lili was in a set that just didn't get open a lot. The value was all in the mythics and then the banning of one of those mythics made opening EMN even more of a bad gamble. Consequently, supply is low.
As for play, she is a 3 mana walker and one of the better ones at that. Already has some modern applications in the death shadow boogeyman deck and while her price tag was very much justified when Emrakul wasn't banned, people seem to think she is a safe bet regardless.
On the other hand, Gideon was part of one of the most open sets of all time thanks to the expeditions so supply is not an issue despite him being a standard all star. Rotation is also coming up and we're at the end of Gideon AOZ tenure in standard so that suppresses the price and will probably tank it altogether once he is out of standard because he doesn't see much eternal play.
There isn’t well with X being banned in Standard what do you think is the long term price of it?
So, with Felidar Guardian eating an emergency ban, what happens to the price of Saheeli Rai? She'd already pretty much recovered from her post-AER spike, probably in anticipation of this ban. Does she go down further? Or does she stay steady? There are some fun things that you can do with her in Modern (Sun Titan says "hi!"), but I don't believe that it's a Tier-1 deck.

Bigger question is what gains without the cat around
All the 5 drops become more playable, all Nisa's become better, deck slots open up since people don't have to have Shock in the sideboard for cat combo, Walking Ballista gets decidedly worse, Verdurous Gearhulk gets significantly better than most 5 drops, but gets hurt by artifact hate in the new set, and we might see an uptick of Aetherworks Marvel. Also zombies are going through a resurgence because of the new stuff in Amonkhet.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Specifically, I think Ishkanah, Grafwidow and Regal Caracal are sleepers. Army-in-a-can cards that can stymie aggressive Mardu starts are where I would start looking. Ishkanah was like a $20 staple at one point before CopyCat, I wouldn't be surprised to see it in double digits again soon.
Three bannings in Standard is not the sign of a healthy standard, and that's something that should have been caught in R&D. Hence, tailspin.
It's a mistake to assume that a bad standard lead to the bans. It's more of a change in ban list philosophy than in the format.
Remember, they changed their whole banning philosophy recently, deciding to get more aggressive with formats and ban more frequently to keep things fresh and fun. I believe that the announcement came with a discussion of how they, in retrospect, wished that they had banned Collected Company last year, yes? And, perhaps, they wished they had banned components of Blue/Black devotion before that? Or Siege Rhino? I don't think it's fair to paint all of these formats as being bad. Different strokes for different folks. But, it is true that WotC is clearly getting more muscular about banning to shake things up when they need to.
If you want to ignore all that, fine - you can fling insults about undies in wads to someone else.
Describing the tensed-up state of your loins was not an insult but an idiom referencing the fact that you are complaining about something. You're perfectly free to complain, but don't get all huffy if someone calls it out.
Here's why I care about people posting these kind of complaints. I don't know if this is why other people bother to respond, but this is my take. It's not about Arguing on the Internet. It's about reaching other players and WotC employees who either read forums or get referred to ideas organically that we discuss. Clearly, there is enough diversity among Magic players to ensure someone complains about everything. But, a counterpoint should be made when the complaint goes to something important that might eventually influence people at WotC.
I worry about complaints like yours because it suggests what WotC should do is print "safe" cards. Go back to Homelands or Masques or Kamigawa. This isn't a guarantee that Standard won't generate complaints (Theros was so weak that decks based on getting lots of mana symbols on the table dominated, lol) but it's certainly a way to minimize the risk of having to restrict something. I would be very unhappy with a timid printing policy like that.
There are plenty of players, I'm one of them, who prefers a more aggressive approach. Print interesting and unique cards, and don't be afraid to push the envelope. If you do not, then it's hard to impact eternal much. Then, if you need to, manage the format using the Banned and Restricted lists.
Does that put the undergarment comment in a broader context?
Hey Kamigawa was an interesting set, it suffered from being printed after one of the most powerful blocks in the history of the game. Any block not called Urza's would have had similar issues. If it had been printed next to any other normal powered block it would have been much better received. I do however agree wizards should be able to try things and push the envelope but I would like some safty valves in all formats to keep stuff in check, An answer is only as good as the threat it bests, Example if the best creature in the game is a hill giant and the best removal is a 1 mana instant uncounterable exile target creature, its still only as good as the the threat it removes. Strong answers that 1:1 are never the problem Strong threats are.

The thing is, it's very hard for prices to climb when standard is in season for most cards that don't make it in the GPs and PT. Also pre-order prices were heavily suppressed due to complete disinterest in standard. I checked my orders from Card Kingdom for some zombies and compared them to now, and for the first time ever even the filler zombies went up in price... after release with the draft packs getting opened. I think that Regal Caracal will go up eventually due to potential commander interest, but yeah, definitely wait a while before grabbing them because I don't see people picking these up for standard, most people will only want one copy for commander, and this set is going to get drafted a lot.
Also, dear lord those mythic prices are like someone decided to throw darts at a dartboard and run circles around a smoke fire saying prayers to the divine.

so, Fatal Push is now $9. Is this the most expensive standard uncommon we've ever had?
The reasoning for the crazy expensive uncommon (relatively speaking) is that the set is terrible from a value standpoint, and the masterpieces just aren't enough to prop it up.
For example, looking at the lower end of tcgplayer prices for aether revolt you have the following overall average valuations:
Mythics: Overall average value: $2.75 (excluding the planewalker deck cards)
Rares: Overall average value: $1
Uncommon set value (which basically may as well be fatal push value, lol...): $10/uncommon/common set (set of 4x each on ebay for $40/4 = $10/set)
Regular Foils: Likelihood of per box value ... : About $3 (Unless you pull one of the top say 5 cards out of the entire set, your foils wont be worth much)
Which gives us an overall average (pre-masterpiece) box value of ..... $65 (Ouch)
Then add to that, that the masterpieces while decent aren't super fantastic in aether revolt, and given the pull odds are about I think 1 in 4 boxes? And you have an additional $10 per box on average for those, bringing it up to only $75 per box on the overall average. This is less than shops pay for the boxes from distributors even.
Anyway, the point of the above was basically that you have a perfect storm of a universally popular uncommon from a generally poor value set, and you end up with a $9ish (or eventually higher) uncommon, Its like Path in standard at its time, except its the modern era and with path you got 2.7 per box on average versus only 1.8 per box on average for these.
As far as it being the highest, its certainly the highest in a while that I can recall, that doesn't mean there haven't been higher in the past though during the cards standard run. The fact that its $9 now, and the set is still going to be in standard for what? Over a year still? Definitely doesn't seem good, hard to say what the card could realistically go to though, and of course if some of the rest of the cards in the set start seeing more play the values could start to increase a bit and the set could start being opened more.
so, Fatal Push is now $9. Is this the most expensive standard uncommon we've ever had?
Not ever, but definitely the highest in a long, long, long time.
I can recall Ice Age Icy Manipulator being around the $10-11 mark during its time in Standard thanks to Winter Orb. But that was like an aeon ago (and some would argue that that was a Type 2 uncommon, not a Standard uncommon).
Finks? Top? Can't think of too many others. It's definitely up there.
Does anyone have any predictions for the Pro Tour tomorrow? I was only able to buy 3 Aetherworks Marvel, so I'm hoping I can get the 4th before or if it spikes. My friend seems to think Rhonas, the Indomitable is underpriced at $13.

I do not understand this at all. It seems these two price points ought to be reversed if not just closer to eachother--why on earth she still so high?
I have zero plans to ever acquire her; I really would just like to understand this.
