Peregrine Drake is not that noticeable of a card, but it's price fluctuation since last May, 2015 has me baffled. Why is it jumping 200/300%, then dropping back down, then jumping again.
You are looking at the Planechase version. The card was originally printed in Urza's Saga as an uncommon, with the following price graph: http://www.mtgstocks.com/cards/9080
For lot of the original Planechase cards the availlability is spotty at best. Somebody wanting a playset with the modern template will buy the cheap ones out and larger sellers who can wait until they get their higher price keep their asking price relatively high.
Even the US version has gone up some time ago, so there seems to be some real demand for the card.
Yay for the New World Order that allows me to discuss cards that moved without my notice.
When did Heartwood Storyteller decide to become a $3.50 card, and why? It's never, ever worked for me - my meta always plays around the damned thing. I assume there are enough Commander Group Hug junkies out there that want to make it work with Hive Mind and/or Underworld Dreams?

Foil Edgewalker is up to 8 dollars with few copies out there.
I bought up about six of them when Ayli was spoiled, most of them were already gone at that point.
I'm wondering if I should offload them now while there's still some amount of hype or if he'll hold price.
I would wait for release, so that people can start to build Ayli EDH decks. I don't think that demand will fall off until after the first wave of Ayli demand tapers off.

Attrition is spiking. It looks like a buyout. I assume it's because of Commander. It's curious because it just got reprinted.
Looks like its last printing was back in the original commander decks from 2011. While 4 years isn't exactly a long time, the 2011 commander decks weren't available for as long as the newer ones so supply wasn't added as strongly as some products, and before that it was only ever printed in Urza's Destiny which was back in 2000 or something I think.
Basically, reasonably popular (especially in commander) and relatively low supply, while maybe not the ideal buyout target, its got some qualities that must have gotten someone's attention enough to go for it. Guess we will have to wait and see where this one settles at. (Just checked ebay as well, and ebay hasn't been completely bought out (yet), so something to keep an eye on.)
Nim Deathmantle has quietly broken the $2 mark. Classic Commander card capable of infinite combos, likely not getting reprinted any time soon. So it could well keep climbing now.
Maybe enough people have found the classical beuty of Deathmantle and Su-Chi (which has also been a huge gainer in the last few days...)
I have been loving the Deathmantle for the last two years, but as one of the last five cards that gets cut from my EDH-decks when I build them.
Since I should be working, here are some cards I've been watching lately. Prices are mainly from TCG player and MtgStocks.
Other Commander-related non-foil movers are: Eater of the Dead my original machine-gun for casual around Urza's-block. Bought out it seems. Fable of Wolf and Owl which has been steadily climbing for the last two weeks. Reiterate Is still climbing. Regular copies are above 15$ on TCG-mid. Cyclonic Rift is slowly getting more expensive. TCG low is over 2$ and the Commander14 version is even higher. Zedruu the Greathearted has also passed 5$ on TCG-mid, as the supply isn't the deepest. I wouldn't mind having few in stock. Mana Vault all versions have gone up for a long time, but the 5th edition has the biggest gains now. I suspect this is mainly commander related growth. Gone are the days when Mana Vaults were 2$ each. Getting them below 5$ is a good price these days. Exquisite Blood keeps going up, as several people projected when the set rotated out. If you picked these up at 0.33$ each you should be pretty happy. Greater Good is also slowly growing again after the judge foil stopped it last year. Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger And griefers strike again. The non-foil is getting ready to break 20$, just about where the foil copy was a year ago (on MCM).
On foils Thousand-Year Elixir is finally moving. The card paints a huge target on your head, as the card often heralds some creature based combo, or Azami fueled huge turn, but when it's good the card is really good.
Foil Gods. Both Karametra and Kruphix have been steadilöy climbing, Keranos's price is due to Modern play but lot of dealers and speculators are picking these up. If you need some, now is the time to get them. Doubling Season Another presumes casualty of judge foils and MM reprint proves it's not dead. Ravnica foils have been creeping up for the last two weeks and MM versions have also moved upwards slightly. Hall of the Bandit Lord The cerd is again getting close to it's previous all time high, when a buy-out occured. This time the growth seems real and I suspect that the foils will stay around 25-30$. Seedborn Muse The card has been pretty pricy foil for a while now, but even with three printings availlable, keeps creeping higher. The effect is pretty valuable and as Prophet of Kruphix always gets killed most decks love to have a back-up that's not as threatening.
Possible future pick-up is Alchemist's Refuge Foils have been disappearing for the last few months and even regular copies have gone up by 50% (from 0.5$ to 0.75$) The card is colored, improved Winding Canyons, which gets better with each new card and allows one to keep possible counter mana open without sacrificing your development if you don't need to counter anything. Foils are steady 7$ now, when they used to be sub 2-3$.
Su-Chi might be a result of the 93/94 format, but I don't know about Eater of the Dead, unless Phenax, god of deception has become a more popular commander.
Foil Gods. Both Karametra and Kruphix have been steadilöy climbing, Keranos's price is due to Modern play but lot of dealers and speculators are picking these up. If you need some, now is the time to get them.
Is it just me or did foil Keranos, God of Storms double over the last week? It had been hovering around $45 and now I see very few listed anywhere, and where it is available, it has min BIN or TCG in the $100+ range.
On foils Thousand-Year Elixir is finally moving. The card paints a huge target on your head, as the card often heralds some creature based combo, or Azami fueled huge turn, but when it's good the card is really good.
And where Thousand-Year Elixir goes, Rings of Brighthearth often follows (though seeing Rings as a $20 card? Yowza)...
Talking of foils and future pick-ups, I noted this week that foil Pia and Kiran Nalaar is currently rocking a $12+ price tag. Gotta be the highest price I've seen on an intro pack foil for a loooong time....
Parents Nalaar are played in modern and standard in Grixis-decks. The precon foil jumped few weeks ago to 20$ and slowly settled to 12$. Altough Commander might help the price slightly, the main driver is modern. The card is pretty scary alongside Kolaghan's Command, as the shocks just keep coming.
Phyrexian Altar is also moving for the second time within four weeks, edging towards 25$ for nm copies. Somebody bought my last extra copy late last year along with some other nice Commander-cards, and MCM doesn't have that many cheap english copies left. The card is only played in casual and Commander, so that also points towards strong demand.
Seems that this year has started well for people invested in Commander-staples.
Looks like Phyrexian Altar has been bought out at the moment.
Just checked ebay, looks like most all the buy it nows were bought out this evening. Still a few copies left (mostly foreign or LP and nothing cheaper than $20 each now. Crazy.
So what drives the Altar buyout ? The sole fact that it's a 15-year old rare with one printing that's kinda staple-y in EDH and sees a lot of play in combo?
Is there any legacy pressure on the price of this?
Is the fact that the title setting-specific an indicator that it won't easily be reprinted ?
Consecrated Sphinx looks like its on the move. Non-foil prices approaching the foils ($40ish) with only a few left on Tcgplayer below 20. No surprise as the card is bonkers.
