I did the Secret Santa last year... sent a great package to my recipient, then received about $2 worth of foil commons from my own Santa :/ Needless to say, not joining up this year.
Just to clarify something for me: is the one we are sending a package to this year for Secret Santa also the one sending us a package? It sure feels that way...
In other news: damn, got burned on the relatively sudden spike on Protean Hulk. Wanted a playset when they were 200/300 points but didn't pay attention during the weekend and now stuck with 3 copies coming at me at 1200 each. Oh well, them's the breaks I guess. Can't complain too much though, the opposite happened all too much too.
Just got mt Puca Trade secret Santa gift & jeeeez, I know giving is about the "act of giving" but when your effort is a 1000% more than theirs, it's time to wonder if it is worth it.
Maybe, next year, a $5 minimum can be added the the $15 maximum.
I got a handful of penny/nickel commons/uncommons & three 30 cent rares.
What bothers me too is that this bothers me. I should be above it, but when you take pride in giving something well thought out, you hope to get at half the effort you put in back.
Guess because this is a time of giving, I shouldn't be looking at it this way. What can I say, I'm human.
NOTE: I gave a foil Zada, Hedron Grinder w/ 2 good red support cards if building an EDH & I noticed the recipient was collecting coin-flip cards, so gave him 3 Goblin Bookie's - sure, they're 17 cents each, but they are not found that often. Also, perfect for any card-flip deck (I figured Unglued would be OK since he already had Unglued/Unhinge cards in his "wants" list).
Don't feel bad. My secret santa wants two $30 cards that I don't own and one $.50 that I do own. I feel bad because I know what I'm going to do already...
To be fair though, I'm not asking for much myself.

According to the rules, the recommended gift is $15. And while I do understand what "recommended" means, to ask for something that is literally double the recommended amount is his problem, not yours. Don't feel bad b/c the other person unfairly was requesting an obligation of you that is far above the suggested policy.
My requests were in the $15 - $20, & I put down 5 options, to make it simpler to chose from. I will admit, I chose cards that, for some, would be difficult to acquire from face to face trading; but if the send really wanted to get me any of the cards I requested, they could've picked them up through Puca Trade, online stores, or found it from the local card shop.
PS - I added more detail to the first post on the Secret Santa.
I finally got my Preacher. I was at least told up front it was in Italian, and he gave a discount for that. I have been waiting for that so I can do some mean things in EDH.

I am looking for Date Stamped promos from Khans of Tarkir block so I can finish my set. Check my wants if you have any.
Currently offering 2 non-foil Kolighan's Command for a Date Stamped foil!
Anyone else having issues with people on the site lately? In the past two weeks and a half weeks, I've had:
1 person agree to send me a judge Greater Good, then after almost two weeks opened a case against himself to tell me he had been very sick and didn't get to ship. That was fine, understandable. He informed me he was shipping the card right away. Four days later the admins canceled the trade and refunded my points...while I was away. The points got eaten up instantly. Well, turns out the guy never sent the card like he promised and now I'm out a judge Greater Good for my Karrthus deck.
1 person agreed to send me a card a week ago. Noticing he hadn't marked it as shipped after five days, I messaged him. Three days later, still no response and no card.
1 person send a package of 8 cards two weeks ago that still hasn't arrived
1 person forget to send the cards for almost a week
1 person go out of town before shipping my cards and didn't notify me until almost a week later when I messaged him to inquire about why he hadn't marked my card as shipped
4-5 people agree to ship me a card and not actually ship it until at least 4 days to a week after committing to send.
I realize it's that time of year and people are busy, but come on. If you can't ship a card within 2-3 days, you shouldn't be trading. This is just getting ridiculous.
That just sounds like a bunch of bad apples.
I only ran into something like that once or twice out of 349 receives. Sometimes things happen, but theres no excuse for lack of communication.
In one of those, the user got banned after not shipping a card for over a week and not responding to my messages.

I hear ya, but you really need to go into this sort of thing with the expectation that you're just giving some stuff away and expect nothing in return I think. I didn't sign up last year because I expected that most people would try to do as little as possible to make sure they got more than they sent. I don't like that I had that pessimistic viewpoint though.
I'm generally sort of a miserly kind of dude, so I signed up this year purely because I felt like doing something nice for someone which I admittedly don't do often enough. Don't get me wrong, I'll hold doors open for people, I'm generally polite, and I'm far friendlier than the average guy to the cashier in the grocery store, but I don't donate to charities or volunteer or anything like that and I'm trying to be better about doing nice little things for people when the opportunity presents itself. So, not that it's a big deal in the grand scheme of things, I thought I'd go a bit above and beyond and I sent about a $35 package to my recipient this year. I legitimately hope he (or she?) is just really happy with it and I don't expect even 1/4 of that (or really anything) in return.

The thing I'm struggling with in regards to the Secret Santa is that they match you with the same person you're receiving from. That seems backwards and makes the situation more of a trade than a giving thing. The whole point of online secret santas is you receive from someone anonymous and you give to someone anonymous, but now I'm giving to the same person I've received from so there's a connection between us. I don't like it.

I think the intent was to encourage more connection between the users. I've messaged my partner a few times, and it becomes more than just sending a card into the void.
More on-topic, what are people's thoughts on the latest Future Sight updates? I'm pretty excited, although it seems a long way away still.
As for the video, it doesn't do much to inspire me
1. I don't play MTGO, so that facet doesn't impact me at all.
2. Condition? Many senders don't give a rat's ass about the condition of cards they currently send out. I don't think they'll look at their cards to grade them fairly - I'll still get plenty of played cards sent as NM (not to point fingers at the majority of traders who do care about the cards they send out).
3. White text on a dark background? This is the worst, and a terrible rookie web-design mistake. I hope Pucatrade dies in a fire if they go ahead with a scheme like that.
The only thing I would like is that if I get a user requesting ten cards I have, that there is a batch send where I can send them all with a click, instead of the current system of {click} {wait for refresh} {click} {wait for refresh} etc.
I'm in PucaTrade for over 35k cards in my collection. I've spent more time with the site than I like to dwell on. Steam seems to be running out, so either my attention is turned elsewhere during peak trading times, or else there truly is a plateau in their membership. Adding MTGO users isn't going to help me, unfortunately.
Odd thing has happened (or more like a lack of anything happening is odd).
I don't have anything wild on my list that I have recently added (albeit, yes, the cards on their for a while are hard to find Legacy).
I can't figure out why these cards are becoming hard to snag on Puca Trade. It's not like there's a bunch of hard to get singles. The only cards pictured in the attached image that I understand not many wanting to part w/ is the Mystic Confluence. The artifacts, I figured, would have been snagged by now, but they have been there for a little over a week.
Anyone else had trouble getting cards that shouldn't be that tough to get?
It might be because some are unusual uncommons, and most people are too lazy to list them.
The commander cards, I'm not sure about.

Stoogeslap, your experience is much like mine. Cards that I would have expected to be snatched up in seconds are sitting on my want list for weeks.
I feel like we're seeing some sort of inflation in pucapoints, such that people are getting them too easily and the incentive to send cards and stockpile points is diminishing.

It's not just you. I have cards on my list that have now quite literally been on my list for a year. That's absolutely not an exaggeration in the slightest either. Until you agreed to send me those 4x Boil a couple days ago Stooge (thank you very much BTW!) I hadn't had anyone agree to send me a card for probably close to 2 months. I fully realize I'm looking for more difficult to find cards than the average user and I'm wanting to be strict about NM most of the time, but Puca is getting far less useful for a collector such as myself to get older, more difficult to acquire cards. Puca used to be pretty awesome for me in the past, but it's just not there any more for whatever reason. Don't get me wrong, it's still an awesome trading website, and if you're looking for newer more common stuff and you're not super picky about condition, I'm sure it's still working quite nicely.

In the latested podcast they discussed the "dibs" system. It would cost you 20% of the selling price to auto-lock the next "want" on a card. That may be the point sink that helps push back against inflation.
With regards to cards, I've found it is slow going to get cards from the Commander decks, particularly playable ones. Most people by the decks with the cards they want. Unlike normal packs, you don't end up with a surplus of playable cards. Hence few people are willing to send them.

I was thinking about you yesterday when I agreed to ship my Nether Void to some guy who just started his search. This last part hits in on the head because he was willing to accept my NM Italian copy for full NM English value. I've been holding onto that card for a few years now trying to find a way to get an English copy and my hope is that my willingness to accept more played versions of the card that I'm not in limbo for a year like you've been. But, I know that I've avoided sending tons of cards or even contacting a lot of people about older stuff just because most of my 93/94 cards are either played or Italian.
Do anyone know how to find donations you've received on Puca? I received a message saying that 70 points was donated, but I didn't notice my points go up, but I do think it went up

Excellent. I found it with the info you gave me. He sent the points to me yesterday, but it counted towards November under the time the trade was initiated, just in case anyone comes across something similar.
Finally, (and I'm not entirely convinced I want to explain this one as it could easily be changed/abused/creates more competition to myself, but I will because I'm awesome), change your username on your profile to start with a space. My username isn't "Magicman657", it's " Magicman657". When people sort a list by username from A-Z, (which smart users will do to scout for bounties like "+10% for Expeditions"), your name will be listed at the top. More exposure = more potential trades
Does anyone actually sort by name? I sort by points available as the first action when I hit the trades page.
