So I pulled a foil Reflecting Pool in a draft earlier. Was really excited at the time, still am, but was a bit letdown when I saw it wasn't the $80 that the original run foil is. Is it at least likely to hold at it's current price? Maybe even go up?
I think $22 (current low end) sounds about right. In my box we pulled 3 regular and 1 foil pools ( ) and have been watching them since - on ebay they're selling for less than $20 and the bidding doesn't seem to be too exciting. They are also not that foily - none of the conspiracy cards really are - so I don't know why people would want them that much anyway.
EDH/Commander is a social format, right? So why don't people use their social skills to discuss what they like and don't like, instead of adopting a list with 60+ banned cards?
Yeah, the 5-6 we saw in our draft were "brushed metal" looking more than shiny. The guy who pulled the Relfecting Pool wasn't even sure if it was a foil - although that might be because of the generally dark nature of the set's art.

Gals, what were the other rares in your box? I did a 6-person draft yesterday, and when the dust settled and all the cards were arrayed at the end, out of the 18 rares 3 were duplicates, including Reflecting Pool. We also saw Grenzo's Rebuttal and Council's Judgment duplicated. All packs were from one side of one box.

4 Reflecting Pool's in one box... Wow!!! Wonder what the chances of that are? If I remember correctly, w/ Lorwyn came out, you were lucky to see 2 Reflecting Pool's. If that is the case, where the Pool's are more common on a sheet than other rares (& please, don't give me the bull pucky that all rares are printed equal... if that were the case then the highly sought after chase rares would be in duplicates in boxes [when they're not] like some of the dollar rares are!), then that could be why they're as low as they are, w/ foils in the $20.00.
Yeah, let's re-evaluate the rarity of Reflecting Pool because of one box. I have seen one Stifle but about 5 Misdirections. I guess Stifle is a "chase" rare too, but not Misdirection.
I have done about 9 conspiracy drafts now. The distribution of the rares can be wonky, but it has all evened out. The other day, we were commenting on how rare Squirrel's Nest seems to be when we started opening them left and right. First two days of drafting, we saw one squirrel's nest. The third day, we saw several draft pools with multiple Nests. Same with some rares. Same with some mythics. I have opened Pristine Angel about 3 times. Zero Dack Faydens. I don't think that says anything about the print run at large.

You remember incorrectly - Reflecting Pool was reprinted in Shadowmoor, not Lorwyn
However, your point stands that one would be lucky to open 2 in a box - there is not typically rare duplication in one box.
As far as "all rares being printed equally", WOTC releases a number of uncut sheets as prizes for events. These days it's 2 copies of each rare, 1 copy of each mythic. 53 rares and 15 mythics in a large set makes 121 cards, which is exactly the size of a sheet. Here for example is M11. If you can find a similar image that refutes this claim, I'd love to see it.

Yes, I see. Not to go off topic (of my own post), but I am still puzzled by the fact that I have opened a lot of boxes in my days & the repeated rares I have seen (80-90%) have been dollar rares. That cannot be coincidence. Something somewhere is affecting the distribution someway, even if there is an even distribution among the printed sheets.

Maybe there is a conspiracy behind Conspiracy
Or maybe it's because 80-90% of rares are dollar rares.

WUBRGPauper Battle BoxWUBRG ... and why I am not a fan of Wayne Reynolds' Illustrations.
It's a little different from other set foils - most of the shine is in the details, like the gold trim on Muzzio's robe, but it is really vivid.

I haven't seen a single box opened and can only base my knowledge on what others have said.
