How is the new Trading Post working for people? When MTGS shifted sites and changed the Marketplace to Trading Post I found the changes unpleasant. I thought maybe it was just because it wasn't what I was used to. I haven't frequented the Trading Post much, but decided to give it another try a couple days ago.
Still not a fan. What are other people's opinions? Have you had success buying/selling/trading in the Trading Post? Do I just need to go back with an open mind?

"Because we cannot prevent draws in paper Magic we allow IDs. If we could prevent draws we would not have IDs in paper Magic. " Scott Larabee.
It's frustrating when you are trying to sell/trade Mana Crypt and True-Name Nemesis. Those cards missing from the database has been known since February 3rd when we went live with the new site and still hasn't been fixed. Not being able to search terms is also making things more difficult since people put a card they way but either don't format it right or don't put the edition. There have been times when I needed that.
I've noticed that my trades have gone from 2-4 a month to 1 a month too. I think it's more that TCGPLayer is so much better now, but I don't buy anything here either. The selection sort of vanished and aside from people trying to sell stuff at TCGPlayer low-to-mid there isn't anything going on.
I think that if more people were there (like you sucked it up and gave it another shot) it would help a lot. TCGPlayer making things easier for buyers hurts, but trading should still happen. I just want the search engine to work though.
Tell us specifically what is wrong in your opinion. "It is bad" does not help us solve the issues. All it does is let us know you think it is bad.
Minor issues are fine. We are still going through growing pains. Other sites did not start out perfect, and MtGS is no exception. We need feedback to fix issues.
You can drop it on our Inbox or PM a MS Moderator if you feel uncomfortable talking about it in the open. We want to make this site the best possible so help us help you.
The Market Street is going through changes so that yours, ours, and everyone's experience on the Market Street is what we want and keep coming back.
I too really dislike the new Trading Post, but decided to post a trade thread a few days ago. It does seem like far fewer traders are online and cards I want to trade for are more unavailable.
Still wish we were back on the old Salvation, and not this crappy Curse site version.......
The Market Street is going through changes so that yours, ours, and everyone's experience on the Market Street is what we want and keep coming back.
I hope you do genuinely believe that. I did. Then, when countless requests for fixes got ignored, it made working the site so unfun that I quit. I really hope that things are actually changing but, from a user-only point of view all I see is the same things not working, the staff defending it, and diminishing reasons (people as well as inventory) to use that part of the site. MOTL and Facebook trade groups now have all sorts of people that I used to see here. I don't know how you guys still do it.

Hey old boss. It is good to see you.
I cannot say right now, but the MS staff is changing several things, including some rules. I (and the others) are in contact with Feyd and Curse to fix issues. They have even come to the MS staff about issues we were not fully aware of. They are fixing issues. I cannot talk about it because confidentially reasons and it is my opinion not fact. I am not here to spread false hope or be downer. I am here to make the best of the situation.
May be you leaving was for the best. May be it made no difference. I miss having you on the staff, but you raised a good staff. We (the MS Staff) are doing everything we can to make this place better. I just hope you, and the rest of the site goers, will feel that we accomplished this goal and brought a good experience later on. We do not want your work, and our home, to be lost.
I understand the frustration and disappoint with the site. The staff is fighting for the site to be better than it was, and you help by telling us real problems, no matter how small.
I too enjoyed the old version of the trading post. Hard to define exactly what is wrong with the new one but if I had to say something it would be clunky. Also unless I misunderstood the search function, we can't search for more than one card.
I think if we went back to trading threads and fixed up the search function we could get a decent trading subforum like the old MTGSal. As it stands right now, I prefer MOTL so much more and i'm tired of maintaining two H/W lists
Eh I don't know, I'd still prefer MTGS-Curse trading post vs MOTL. I absolutely hate using MOTL as a site because of their ridiculously-small inbox limit so even though they have good functionality in 'match your list with this one', I don't really use it much. MTGS-Curse is ok actually, it's just that people need to learn to reformat their lists and many people haven't bothered to do it so there's less threads out there than there used to be.
The search function isn't great, I concur.
Also, having the 'Haves' or 'Wants' list NOT expanded by default is a bad idea IMHO. It's an automatic click on everybody's page unless they have 5 cards on their lists so why wouldn't it just be expanded by default?
Well, I never attempted any online trading in the slightest before the change but the new format got me into online trading. Maybe I'm just a forum noob but it seemed simpler. I didn't do anything other than browse the old trade threads. I don't mind the Curse site but maybe it is because I had been a member of a few other large communities that were already on curse. So from a brand new online trader the new post was the main reason I put my list up. Hopefully it continues to improve.
I just assume all the new traders are returning rippers since we used to see 5-6 a month and in the last 2 months we've seen 0 in Community Issues
Really though, the new guy perspective is important because the old traders were old traders because we liked it the way it was. I don't really have anything against the way it is, but I do not like that some things don't work and that nobody trades with me anymore.
People not moving their lists to the new area or not correctly formatting them are the biggest problems. The search function only works if you correctly format your list. While more search features would be nice, it doesn't do any good if lists aren't formatted.
One thing I liked about the forum thread was I could edit my list without causing a bump. I let my list fall when I'm busy, but might still want to update the cards.
This is the format that I use. I maintain my list in text files using Notepad++.

As soon as they converted it into this new system I took my business to MOTL entirely for trading/selling/buying. I just find this new system I can't really take in as much information as quickly/efficiently. I liked being able to scan through people's sale lists quickly picking out stuff I'd want or good deals now it feels really cumbersome and awkward. Also like mentioned before, if people don't write the name of the card right it won't show up, it just feels like a step in the wrong direction. I used to use this site much more than MOTL until this new trading post came around, honestly think you guys should just converted it back to a basic forum, if you want to implement the trading post style keep it confined to a search tool in it's own thread stickied at the top that people can use if they choose.
It feels like it's a separate section of the website when IMO it should be integrated into the forums, I'm guessing lots of new people probably won't ever realize how active it is or that it even exists at all.
I agree on Galspanic's point; there is quite a few cards missing from the database. One big gripe I have is that the Trading Post also does not support any kind of promos meaning you will have to specifically state which version you want. That has been confusing a few times now when negotiating a trade.
I think the search function failing is a huge problem.
It seems like a lot of traders (including myself) do not format their lists correctly, so searching completely fails. On the old site, I could just search Trading Post using the general search function, so even people who didn't use have/wants tag still showed up in the site search. Now, there's no such thing and I can no longer search for anything I want.
This new site is also a few magnitudes of order slower than the old site, especially in the Trading Post, though I doubt we can do anything about it, since we've complained since the beginning with no visible improvements.
I've pretty much completely stopped trading and I'm considering migrating over to MOTL for my trading needs.
While it's true that it's in a whole different section of the site, if the traders feel like the system is good enough, they should still trade; the section shouldn't actually matter.
I also dislike the new trading post. I had over 70 trades in the previous year on the last site compared to 2-3 under the new one. I find like stated above problems with being able to search accurately and also agree with the inability to process info quickly. I feel like the loss of individuality within trade lists hurts. It's harder to view lists on phones which I use all the time. Load times stink on phones. Also, no notification when someone leaves you feedback.
What seems to be the main issue with the search function? If a user doesn't format properly, it isn't going to show up. It didn't show up on the other site either.
You can filter by wants, haves, price, author, just sales or just trades. Seems more robust than the old MTGS. And like the old site you can match your wants to other's haves.

Where does one match one's wants to other's haves?
Oh I thought you meant being able to see trade matches between myself and another person.
I'm not sure what you mean, but let me explain what I think you mean.
Your looking for Card x, you put it in the want field
You have Card B, you put it in the haves field
Click filter, and it will show you a list of users who have what you want and vise-versa

I get what you're saying. I thought you meant there was a trade matcher that would compare entire trade threads between two people.
1) There doesn't seem to be any indication of when content was last updated, in the old system there was a "last post" date.
2) There is no indication of which lists I have already viewed. Previously, threads that had been viewed appeared different from those that had not been viewed, and I could mark the whole forum read when I was done browsing new content.
3) I have to hover over a thread to find feedback levels and location, that information used to be available at a glance rather than on demand.
1) and 2) make browsing for non-specific content much less efficient, at least for me.

"Because we cannot prevent draws in paper Magic we allow IDs. If we could prevent draws we would not have IDs in paper Magic. " Scott Larabee.
I too dislike the new trading post, searching seems to be the biggest flaw. I was looking for 1999 Arena Islands, or searching foils, and if the person doing the post didn't post it exactly correctly they didn't show in the search.
I enjoy the new private messaging system, as I'd much prefer to read a sequential stream of messages as opposed to a multi-quote filled nightmare (which the old messages could easily turn into).
I just wish there was a way to ensure that a search would yield the correct results each time, and I think it would be nice if a user's feedback score was visible next to the username on the pages of lists, or that something similar could be implemented so that people would have an indication of who they're dealing with on sight.
I think the new trading post is fine overall, but it does seem to draw less traffic since the move.
Email notification when trade feedback is received would be appreciated.
A tutorial on how to maximize the existing functionality would be appreciated (probably exists - but I don't know where).
Not having to expand the Haves/Wants boxes would save a few seconds.
Ability to search the Haves/Wants boxes without specific cards would be appreciated. For example, I used to look for "Unhinged" when checking to see if anyone had UNH lands available.
Ability to search for more than one card at a time would be great.
Icons that indicate whether I've previously read the content would be great. As it is, I read the same threads over and over.
Somewhat off topic, but the List function only adds one set of asterisks. It used to add one for each paragraph I had selected.
Oh, and any chance that Low/Avg/Hi prices could be added when hovering? That would be brilliant. EDIT: Hi usually isn't relevant - if that space was instead used to show foil prices, that would be even better.
