So it seems a time honored tradition around this time, people realize their favorite standard cards from Innistrad are about to rotate and they start to drop like rocks in price, then the set rotates and everything (from standard) drops a bit more, I was curious what people thought the best cards to be picking up at this time are?
The ones I can think of are: Restoration Angel - While it seems Merla pod is the favorite variation right now, this sees play as a 3-4 of in 4cc pod.
Cavern of Souls - sees tons of play across multiple formats, hopefully will drop some as standard players lose access.
Geist of Saint Traft / Liliana of the veil / snapcaster mage - if any of these actually drop much of all, they seem like good pickups, but I am not so sure any actually will because they're not really huge standard cards these days.
Tamiyo will go down, Avacyn might go down (I doubt it)
Huntmasters, Olivia, Falkenrath aristocrat should all drop as well (so I can finally put real ones in my cube)
Thalia (why is this a $2 card ?) and I still believe in Lingering Souls.
I've always wondered that. I had a few extra copies and ended up trading them at about $4 each for other stuff, leaving me at 5. The FOIL is $15 though. I probably want to pull the trigger on that one soon, since at worst, Thalia forces the Storm deck to use Electrolyze.

Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)
Olivia, Huntmaster, Liliana, Geist of St Traft, Thalia, Lingering Souls, Terminus, Thundermaw, Entreat the Angels, Sigarda, Gravecrawler, Geralf's Messenger.
I feel like Snap and Cavern are already driven a lot by eternal viability and won't drop much. Resto may be an ok pick-up, but it has little casual appeal and isn't that popular in Modern. I'd really wait for it to bottom out.
Huntmaster of the Fells is in freefall right now. I remember a few days ago seeing a playset sell for ~$20 on eBay. People keep trying him out in Modern Jund but he just doesn't work in Modern/Eternal formats like in Standard because of the lack of Draw/Go decks. He hardly every does more than make two bears for four mana. He may be worth picking up but I don't think he every goes back up a lot.
I echo Thalia. She should see play at some point down the line. Get a playset because you really won't be out much if she never takes off so there's very little risk.
Of course Snapcaster Mage, Liliana of the Veil, Geist of St. Traft should all be purchased/traded for soon if you can get them. These may not drop much but they should start getting to their lowest points soon.
Actually, to be fair, most flip cards could be worth picking up just because they may never get printed again. I know MaRo says they tested well and they want to do them again but it could be awhile. And most certainly don't fit in any set besides INN, so they could hold some value for that reason alone. Something that just popped in my head before I hit submit. Especially foils like Delver. Anyone else feel like this could be the case?
I would pick up resto angels and just about what everyone else said. I would also pick up the checklands because they are used some in modern and it is always nice to have playsets of all the lands you might need for modern. I also would pick up the flip garruk because i like him and am not sure why he is not played more in modern!
Are there any other cards with casual appeal that would be good to pick up now or shortly (i.e., Vampire Nocturnus, Parallel Lives)? With the vampire, $12/playset for a card that used to be $18 ea seems like a pretty good deal, for example.
Thalia is cheap as she showed up in rally and route
The above items make a lot of sense, but I would also look for casual cards like temporal mastery / planeswalkers that bottom out very low but are popular with the casual crowd so they will give you the best ROI. (planeswalkers always have a chance of being broken as new cards come unless they are tibalt..)
I think the inn lands will continue to drop as well and they are solid pickups at their bottom.
Geist of Saint Traft, Liliana of the Veil, Snapcaster Mage, Cavern of souls, Thrag (Depending on price as I think he will drop really hard then be a few dollars), Restoration angel for staples
Snapcaster at 12-15 is a pipedream. Same with geist. Both are very powerful cards in legacy and modern. Same with liliana. Those 3 are in the same boat. I could MAYBE see geist hit 15, but snapcaster is likely to be propped up by people who refuse to let it go for less than 20. Geist being a mythic helps it out as well. I know I'm waiting until rotation for liliana, but I'm not sure how much liliana will drop because of how powerful liliana is. $14 a pop for liliana was definitely the price I should have bought at but oh well.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Not do to his playability in eternal formats, but simply because he is a rare there are quite a few more in circulation...
A mythic rare that sees significant play in eternal formats will never drop all that much, but snapcaster being a rare will probably drop him to 15, then he will slowly rise to 60+ in a year or two...

My WTB - EDH stuff
I don't know why she's $2, but I love it. Unless WotC decides to stop printing non-creature spells, she's just going to keep getting better.
Rancored Elf will cancel your order if prices go up. Read about him and other shady vendors here.
My Trade Thread!
Lingering Souls, if don't already have them, is a good buy as well.
Thundermaw Hellkite will some a little modern play. It wouldn't hurt to get 2-4.
Those would be my top 6 pickup suggestions, if you already didn't have them.
Flinthoof Boar is already a modern stable in Red/Green aggro.
Restoration Angel will likely drop a lot, but it is definitely playable in modern and only gets better with time.
If you wanted a playset of some of the better cards from past standard that are not necessarily modern playables, it would be a good time to get Huntermaster of the Fells, Falkenrath Aristocrat, Bonfire of the Damned, Augur of Bolas, Geralf's Messenger, Gravecrawler, Olivia Voldaren, etc. I don't expect these to see much Modern play, but if you ever wanted to simply own them for the sake of owning them, post rotation is the time to get them.

Avacyn, Angel of Hope and Griselbrand appear to be increasing in price. Omniscience seems stable. Are these likely to come down at all?
