The card's most recent move is on right. means no movement. is a card that wasn't on the list last update. This is the update's hottest mover. (#) is price in CND incl. shipping here.
No cards moved above or below the $3 threshold this update, so there are still 27 cards worth opening in a booster pack - and on the tally.
As you can see, there are so many cards on the RTR tally, it had to be split into 2 posts again. I get an error message saying I can only have 500 smilies in my post. I asked the moderators to looking into it but didn't hear anything from them, so I've posted a thread in Technical Support about it, here. In the meantime, this will have to awkwardly be split in half again. It makes it a lot harder to work with on my end so hopefully something can be done.
I'll keep specific card comments to a minimum here. Jace obviously leaped ahead of the stagnant Sphinx's Revelation a few days ago. Considering that RTR has just gone out of print this week (my main suppliers both told me Wizards has now cut them off ordering anymore product), I think what's happening is players are stocking up on cards they know have a future, not just in the coming year, but after RTR rotates. Revelation is NOT a card that fits that description. Deathrite Shaman is 3rd and in the high teens with the shocklands following up in the $12 to $14 range. Desecration Demon didn't rise since last update, but also didn't pull back. Vraska, Mizzium Mortars, and Supreme Verdict extended gains while Niv Mizzet and Armada Wurm looked stale.
Sales continued to be strong, and RTR's box value remains the highest in Standard. Considering the box value can't go anywhere but up now that it's OOP, that's saying something! Next update in a couple weeks or if things get interesting before then.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
Dunno if it's been announced, but there aren't anymore print runs coming. I can only speak for the suppliers I know in the Vancouver BC area, and other areas might be different. Here, I was given a last call notice last week. So I'm cut off... and already wishing I could go back and get more.
dont you guys think it will take at least a few months before boxes start increasing? u can find boxes all over the internet for $90
Nope, it happens pretty much instantaneously. Within a couple days of the official "out of print" announcement there can be a HUGE jump in box prices. They'll be cheap until they aren't. One minute they'll be $90 and the next they'll be $140 and slowly creeping upward toward $200, $300, and beyond. Look at Innistrad, look at Worldwake, look at any set with lots of playable cards in it that went out of print. Most people never learn from this pattern.
Feel free to wait, but consider asking yourself the question "at what point in the future will the price of an unopened box of RTR be less than it is today?" which can be rephrased "what am I waiting for?"
EDIT: Would a moderator please update the thread's title? Thanks. There are some other running tally threads that need their titles updated as well.
Thanks for the tip R_E. I had thought it would be a little longer before it went OOP. I just snatched up 2 boxes (most I can justify with my funds). I'll likely sit on these for a long time as RTR is one of the best sets I've ever seen (both card quality wise and for limited). No way these boxes don't perform well over time from an investment standpoint.
^^
Is $110 a good deal for a box of RTR? No more boxes available at my local store. A friend of mine overseas will be bringing in some. Should I pull the trigger?
I don't think 110 is that bad, especially for Canadians. It's only about $10 more than I get most of my boxes for, and that's only because I pay in cash and buy in bulk.
Just a reminder, the boxes will be worth more UNOPENED than opened. Sure, the singles are going to keep rising, but the boxes themselves will always rise faster. I'm opening mine for singles, but for most people, if you're doing it as an investment, keep the boxes sealed. Don't put forth money you can't afford to lose, as with all investing. And don't see it as a get rich quick plan - those almost always fail. Realize you'll likely be putting it aside for a year or more before significant gains can be realized. If you're going to need to sell (to get back the cash) sooner than that, consider just sitting on the cash. And as always, this isn't advice, just my personal musings and opinions.
Forgive me if this has already been covered, but why did Desecration Demon just jump to $6?
Aggro is dying, tokens have lots of hate right now and desecration demon is just low enough in terms of CMC to put in some hurt against midrange creature decks.
this is always a hard time of the year for me to spend money on magic or stuff that isn't necessary. im really trying to see if i can fit a box of RtR into my paycheck. i missed out on innistrad. had been contemplating buying the last box at my local shop for $100 until finally it was too late and had been sold. id really like to get 2-3 boxes, just one doesn't feel like enough.
I can get boxes for $110 Canadian tax in (this is if I buy a case for 655). Probably will pull the trigger this Saturday
I get them shipped to my house for just under $100 CAD per box. Cases are $564.99 + PST and free shipping. I just got 2 cases and will probably pick up more.
Might get another 2 cases now that Rancored_Elf has said the lower mainland is now officially cut off? Just leave boxes sealed in the back of your closet and in a year or two they will have a decent price tag on them.
I just bought a case, shipping included, for 518$. Thanks for the heads up on this you guys. I'd really suggest you all do likewise as we saw what happened with Innistrad. RTR has huge value and is on the rise.
As a slight aside - this isn't meant as an attack. RancoredElf, I respect a lot of the things you say, but it seems like you sometimes are wrong on a card and refuse to admit it to the bitter bitter end. In this case it's Sphinx's Revelation. The card is about to climb in tandem with Jace for the next 6 months because it is a staple of WUx control decks and those decks are currently all over standard... I know you don't like the card. Heck, I didn't like the card either, but I knew when to admit I was wrong (when it went from 4 to 7 and I saw the tournament results flooding in last year) and the card hasn't changed it's power level since. It's a really strong card in the standard environment and you can't really talk sensibly about prices and ignore the standard window. Sure, this time next year it'll be a bulk rare - that's been it's destiny since the day it was printed. But that doesn't stop it from occasionally defining standard and having a 30$ pricetag or w/e.
Just sayin'. Same goes for reckoner - card's about to hit 20$+.
Thanks for the tip on Reckoner, I still had mine at $13 shipped, woops!
Well I dunno about refusing to admit that I was wrong. I do that alllll the time. When you make calls on thousands of things, you're wrong about hundreds. And I don't delete any of my old posts, so my opinion is well documented and easily referenced by anyone. As for Revelation specifically, you're probably right it will be dragged upwards by Jace's increase in popularity. What I said in my post, or at least was trying to say, is that it has a less favourable long term future, and now that things have rotated, players are looking ahead and positioning themselves in cards with futures. DRS and others will do better over the next year IMO than cards that are destined to crumble upon rotation from Standard.
I've always disliked Revelation in terms of card design. I've also underestimated how well it would do in Standard. The former is my opinion and I stand by it. As for the latter - I was wrong and you were right.
Gonna see if I can grab a box or two and stash until after RTR rotates.
Also yeah, if you haven't grabbed Boros Reckoner, I think your window to do so is just about over. I expect a big showing at PT Dublin next weekend and a corresponding further price increase. Depending on how many are in the top 8, I could see $25. Card is insane and was way underpriced heading into Theros.
The thing about Sphinx's Revelation is that I don't want to spec on a $20 card that will probably go up to $30. Have better targets in mind.
This thread is about a lot more than just identifying undervalued cards. It's also about identifying overvalued cards, and trends. But yes I agree with you, Revelation isn't a great card for speculative long positions.
Value begins moving upward across the board, as the set has now gone out of print:

Winter is coming. Better stock up
This is insanely early in the standard cycle. Jeff and Elf, what do you think will happen to sealed product prices and in what time frame?
