Pretty sure 90% of the play it's seeing outside Standard is because of all the popularity it has WITHIN Standard. It's just not playable in older formats, where there are already tons of "draw X" cards similarly costed, and all of them are FAR from playable in those formats. Stroke of Genius is $5 card from a set where the playable rares are going for $50+ each. EDIT: I do realize Stroke is only available for Legacy, Vintage, Commander, and Casual formats, and not in Modern. Modern has other mass draw spells.
The life gain is extremely relevant to UWR control no other card draw spell gives you x cards at instant speed and x life.
It's the reason why in standard Blue Sun's Zenith was never as popular of a card as Sphinx's Revelation during the time when either were in standard respectively. Like I said until you play against UWR control in modern or play UWR control you don't realize how necessary the card is. If the card is fast enough sometimes to halt a super aggressive deck in standard by gaining a crucial 5 life in the mid-game off a ramp spell or two, its perfectly fine for a control deck that seeks to kill everything you play that's relevant or counter it.
WotC obviously wanted a playable Stream of Life style card and they made one finally...
But, if you think it will be a bulk mythic or just barely higher or something after rotation that is fine :D. I personally expect a noticeable drop after rotation but it will still hold value over Stroke of Genius and other cards similarly to it because in most cases its better.
Sphinx's Revelation is definitely playable in Modern, but it's not 20$ good in that format. We'll just have to wait and see if it's good enough in RTR/Theros Standard. My expectation is that it will be, honestly.

Sphinx's Revelation will go up from it's current $20 price tag because it currently see no play in standard but will see substential play after Innistrad rotation.
SCG is sold out of Desecration Demon at $3.5. I think this guy can be good post Innistrad rotation.
Just checked ebay, and it looks like they are up to about $2.50 or so there. Card is definitely making a nice recovery from the bottom it reached a while back. Anyone know if the card is seeing play somewhere suddenly, or is it just speculation?

Golgari deck that got popular on MTGO, then eventually became somewhat popular on paper.
There was a total of:
28 Jace Architect of Thought
28 Supreme Verdict
25 Sphinx's Revelation
If WUx control is not the top deck after Innistrad rotation I would be beyond shocked. I see Jace at $25-$30, Verdict at $8 and Sphinx's Reve at $25.
I don't know what the future holds, though I'm still very skeptical on Sphinx's Revelation in that regard.
That said, your current price quotes look about right. Seeing Jace at $18, Verdict at $7, and Sphinx's at $22.
I don't think Jace will ever go back up to $30. The highest will probably be $20. Jace jumped up to $40+ at one point because the first wave of RtR was kind of drying up and everyone was scrambling for playsets for States that October.

Yeah I recall it was $50 (maybe more) on SCG for about a month or so, earlier on.
But as for it not getting above $20, it's pretty much there already, or close to it. If it continues to do well, I imagine it'll go well past $20, as supply is fairly limited compared to where it was several months back.
I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.
That was a block event as well, not like full standard, and does block fuel prices at all?
Not directly, no, since Block is barely played at all outside of events that specifically require it, and MODO. But Block is considered a window into the next year's Standard environment, and gives you an idea of what archetypes are expected to be strong come October. One would expect that cards that defined archetypes in Block, such as Jace, Sphinx's Revelation, Voice of Resurgence, and Burning-Tree Emissary, will be pillars of the Standard environment that emerges when Theros comes out, along with whatever goodies M14 and Theros themselves bring.

Block SOMETIMES portends Standard, and Standard OCCASIONALLY portends Modern..... so you could say that Block SOMETIMES OCCASIONALLY portends Modern. And Sphinx's Revelation's Modern playability is what we're discussing.
I've seen it played in two decks. First, the UWr control deck that seeks to use removal to last until the midgame and use Revelation to recharge, and second, some variants of UW Tron that simply power out Revelations for 7+ to overwhelm the opponent with a sea of card advantage before dropping Flying Spaghetti Monster to win. I think it's a fringe card because Modern is about a turn too fast for it to be the format-defining card it is in Standard, but it's really good in decks that can slow the game down beyond turn 6 or so, or something such as Tron that can ramp into massive Revelations.

couldn't have said it better.
however i think Jace can break 25 and even 30. Block is a good indicator of spikes.
The card's most recent move is on right. means no movement. is a card that wasn't on the list last update. This is the update's hottest mover. (#) is price in CND incl. shipping here.
Lotleth Troll fell below the $3 level this update, and therefore off the tally, which only tracks cards worth opening in a booster pack. Since Mizzium Mortars made a reappearance on the tally, there are still 21 cards listed.
Jace gained big as Sphinx's Revelation cooled slightly, bring Jace almost into the lead, after being nearly half Revelation's price a couple weeks ago. Deathrite Shaman also gained in value, but dropped a point on the tally since it didn't gain as much as Jace did. Angel of Serenity and the shocklands held value nicely this update, with Supreme Verdict, Trostani, and Vraska all gaining quickly just below. Loxodon Smiter also moved up a little more lately, as did Ash Zealot, Chromatic Lantern, and Mizzium Mortars (which had fallen off the tally for a while).
Currently, the set is the top in Standard in terms of box value.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
haha... jace was a good speculation. i picked up 16 regulars and one foil when he was at 10.
IMO Jace will take over sphinx and after rotation be a solid 25-30 dollar card (ebay so SCG like 35). it is dominating block as a 4 of in anything playing blue.
