I've heard that block constructed is a good indicator of pricing. If that were true, Jace has a very good opportunity to shoot up.
That said, just by looking at the support blue is getting in the RTR block and it's synergy with other colors (black, white, and some green) should tell you that Jace has a higher chance of performing better in the future and with it, a higher price tag.
The card's most recent move is on right. means no movement. is a card that wasn't on the list last update. This is the update's hottest mover. (#) is price in CND incl. shipping here.
Detention Sphere fell below the $3 level this update, and therefore off the tally, which only tracks cards worth opening in a booster pack. There are now 21 cards on the tally.
The top half of the list was unchanged, but the lower half was volatile. Cards doing well included Abrupt Decay, Supreme Verdict, Lotleth Troll, Chromatic Lantern, and Loxodon Smiter. Cards taking a pounding were Armada Wurm, Vraska, and Ash Zealot. None of that surprises me, although I think Ash Zealot is a better card than the pricetag indicates.
Currently, the set is among the top in Standard in terms of box value.
20 copies of Jace, Architect of Thought in the Top 8 of the DGM Block PT, more than any other single card besides basic lands. And SCG just upped it to $15.

If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.

I think "cornering the market" is disingenuous terminology - there will be real demand from many, many buyers come rotation - Jace and Sphinx's Revelation are, at present, two of the premier sources of card draw in Standard right now, and while Jace appears to be a bit slow at the moment and doesn't have as much of a home as Revelation, it is entirely reasonable to assume that he may fit in better post-rotation.
Block constructed is often a window into the future Standard environment, and if that is accurate, we can expect Architect of Thought to be a big player in Standard post-Theros, generating real demand without a corresponding increase in supply, as RTR will be scarcely opened after the new block comes out. In short, not every price increase is "manipulation" or "cornering" - this one in particular looks to be the result of broad demand increase based on the potential for real metagame shifts in the future.

Thanks for the well thought out and rational post-- unfortunately the term "cornering the market" just seems to be the latest buzzword that people throw around loosely whenever a card goes up in price.

I think of "cornering the market" as when someone buys up a lot of copies of a somewhat rare and hard to find card. Then when people try to find the card to buy it, it is very difficult, therefore the price rises.
I don't think someone could do that to Jace, Architect of Thought very easily. It would require buying maybe 10s of thousands of copies.

Well, after a 2 month break to focus on home renovation/spring cleaning and other family-related tasks, its time to get back to the ebaying again. So I went ahead and did a full update and figured I would provide it here for you all as well: As always my prices come from the low end of ebay buy it nows (emphasis on playset/4).
Top valued rares/mythics:
Sphinx's Revelation: $20
Angel of Serenity: $11
Deathrite Shaman: $11
Jace, Architect of Thought: $10
Temple Garden: $9.50
Overgrown tomb: $7.50
Hallowed Fountain: $7
Blood Crypt: $7
Abrupt Decay: $7
Steam Vents: $6.50
Trosani, Selesnya's Voice: $6.50

Chromatic Lantern: $2.50
Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius: $2.50

Everything else is worth less than $2
Total Set value:
Mythics: $74
Rares: $91
Common/uncommon sets (ebay): $6
Total set value: $171
Total overall average box value:
Mythics: $22/box
Rares: $54/box
Common/uncommon sets: $8
Foils: $5
Total overall average box value: $89
The greatest movement came from the mythics since my last update, as their value overall rose significantly, thanks in part to rises in angel of serenity, Jace, Sphinx Revelation, Trostani, and Vraska. The rares had a good number that went up .50-$1, and quite a few that dropped similar amounts, so there wasn't much overall movement there. Box value rising to $89 is a positive sign. $90ish for a solid standard legal set at this point in its existence is usually the sign of a set that should perform well and increase in average box value once we hit the rotation in the fall.
Will post another update if time allows in the future. I cannot say for sure when though, so we'll just have to see.
Enjoy!
Anyhow, enjoy the update, Ill post again if time allows, but we'll see how it goes.
[CARD]
Sphinx's Revelation
[/CARD] will probably go down, but some say it has Modern applications (some say Legacy but I may be wrong and they only said Modern) and will actually go up when singles dry up. Might be found for certain decks.
It's seeing play in UWR control decks. Both parts are very relevant, especially the lifegain when you're playing fetches and shocks.
Seems very slow still...it might be worth it if you sink like 7 mana into it but that's turn 7 and there are plenty of decks in modern that will make short work of you in that time

The UWR deck in question (one of 3 UWR archetypes in the format) is a slow counterburn draw-go deck.

The card is quite important to that deck because that deck's plan is to neutralize all threats then draw itself into more gas to neutralize you. The deck plays for the long game in 99% of matches which is when revelation is good. They usually only want revelation in a 2 of or so under most circumstances though.
Pretty sure 90% of the play it's seeing outside Standard is because of all the popularity it has WITHIN Standard. It's just not playable in older formats, where there are already tons of "draw X" cards similarly costed, and all of them are FAR from playable in those formats. Stroke of Genius is $5 card from a set where the playable rares are going for $50+ each. EDIT: I do realize Stroke is only available for Legacy, Vintage, Commander, and Casual formats, and not in Modern. Modern has other mass draw spells.

Block Constructed does predict price though.
WUBRGPauper Battle BoxWUBRG ... and why I am not a fan of Wayne Reynolds' Illustrations.
Yes this, especially this. Jace AoT is the card to play over Ral Zarek for sure.
That's 100% given. The real question is will JAOT end up at a higher price than Sphinx's Revelation.
That's going to be a 100% increase from JAOT current price if it was to reach Sphinx's Revelation price, that's unlikely....
I think were talking about post-rotation, not pre. Jace will easily be $20+ when Theros rolls around.
In that case we would be expecting pple to corner the market for JAOT.

It could be if you're obscenely rich
My opinion on Revelation is the same as when it was first printed: it's pricetag won't survive rotation from Standard.

Any idea what those might be? Is it needed for the draw X part, or the gain X life part? Pretty sure the answer is "neither" in Modern...
