This is by far the most stable set I have ever seen. I only see Gatecrash continuing this trend, which is great for players and sellers alike. I don't know if we will see anymore crazy jumps until the next set comes out. I'm just so impressed with this set, it's difficult to see how it could have been done better.

Are Lotleth Trolls a safe buy at ~$4 apiece? I can't imagine them ever being $2 rares, but my ability to speculate is hampered by the fact that I haven't followed standard for a while now. I'd like a playset sometime down the road, that's all I know.
I kinda wonder if the cards in the rest of the block will help boost Lotleth. On paper he's absolutely bonkers, but he just hasn't really worked out in a winning deck yet.
If you actively want the card, and you can get them for $4 a piece, I think it's a good buy. With stats like that, I don't think it'll end up in any junk rare bins.
The good and the bad with this set. Is because of just how packed full of good cards, relatively speaking, there is. All focus has turned to RTR as far as pack openning and such goes, because even as the cards values may decline, the amount of good and playable cards is at an abundance in RTR vs the other sets. Good commons/uncommons/rares/mythics. With such a good set, youll see it being openned en-masse (as we have seen allready). When this happens, youll see the value of the cards in the set slowly decline, barring significant demand increases to keep the price stable or growing even amid the huge influx of supply.
This was seen from my last update about a week or so ago, when I showed that rather large drop-off from the update before where at least looking at the low end of ebay buy it nows (how I usually price my cards). The supply of this set is continuing to increase and not at a slow pace. We arent even to mtgo set redemptions yet, which historically put even more downward pressure on the card values from the set (Especially the mythics). Those will be out and on the market in about 1-2 weeks. The best time to buy a set like this, is going to be right around a month from now to just after the 1st. Supply will be at its highest level then, the format should have levelled out a little by then, and if you hit before the next set starts getting previewed, then youll be able to avoid any preview suddenly spiking one of the cards you may be looking for.
If you have a deck you need the cards for now, theres no reason not to grab them now. However if its for a future deck, then waiting on cards from this set wouldnt be a bad idea, as the downward pressure from supply is only going to continue.
It's not great for players at all. What's great for casual players (let's say 80% of the total playerbase of magic) is prices dropping like crazy 1-2 months after a sets release so they can pick up the better rares at a 'normal' price instead of the hyped/inflated prices early in the set.
Seeing RtR hold its hyped values for so long kinda sucks for the likes of me.
What hyped values? Jace is $20 bucks right now when it used to be $50. While cards have stabilized at decent values, we're not seeing a Bonfire or even Entreat the Angels type card like in AVR.
Bottomline: if you can't afford a $3 card, you probably should be playing Uno instead of Magic.

As an aggregate values are very high. Not sure if "hyped" is the right word.
But we are looking at deck prices very close to the SFM + Jace 2.0 reign. Hopefully MTGO redemptions brings everything down a good amount.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.
Incredible that Revelation is hitting that high. I'm still hanging on to mine waiting to see if it goes up anymore. If it does, I'm turning it into some more shocklands, as I've managed to land 2 Temple Gardens and 1 of each other by way of packs, and those lands will always hold value, whereas Revelation will not in the long run. Still wondering if I should unload Angel of Serenity, but I am debating a Reanimator list, and wondering if Modern likes it at all, since it will become an FNM sanctioned format and Standard bores me. Decisions, decisions...

Wow its amazing that the revelation is up to 17-19!. The other cards seem to have cooled off some. Jace and Vraska have gone down. The deathrite shaman is still steady and the lands always will. I am still unsure if the angel or jace will hold value. Should i unload both of them?
Also has anyone tried the troll in modern? I have an idea for a nifty modern deck that abuses the troll with vengevines and squee goblin nabob.
Oy...that's ridiculous with the Revelations...almost to the point of stupid. IMO
Glad I got one for my deck for only $5. Although it does make me feel bad that I skimped out on a $30 for 3 copies of Revelations ebay listing a little while back. :/ I knew I should've gone for it. Could've flipped them afterwards for double the value. Price on them are pretty insane. They are pretty damn good in standard I guess. I've never really liked more than one in my decks so far, but I might be in the minority.
Jace...Idk, I might consider unloading them now, but then again control might be more viable with Gatecrash coming out (thinking Esper can be really strong). Currently, I kinda just like 2, so my third is just chilling in the binder. I tried 3...it's aight, but a little too many (then again, I'm the guy that doesn't like more than one Revelations lol).
He's not necessary as a 4-of as everyone thought at first, so I kinda feel like he might go down further, or just stabilize at this (relatively) low price.
Reprints the one card that people point to when saying that art objectifies women.
Well done Wizards.
Liliana does not objectify women in any way at all. We have gotten to a point in our society that every single picture of a women must be objectifying a women in some negative way......blah blah blah.. That is not the case. (((Sarcasm)))Picture of a girl drinking a milk shake, must be sex related and putting women down, picture of girl sitting on a beach, picture of a girl driving a car, picture of a girl on the moon at a new space station.)))
You have a picture of an attractive strong power women who girls dress up as for anime conventions. What more do you want? The picture is fine, happy to see a reprint. Sick of of seeing people claim that everything in existence must be putting women down. Then all I have to do is replace the word "women" with anything else to get the same mentality; fish, cats, arabs, blacks, jews, men, environment, whites, chinese, old people, etc. It doesn't matter what word I put in. Stop sucking life out of everything man. That artwork of her is awesome. Stop putting stuff down man. Just stop. If the picture was really as negative as you claim she would totally nude, in a kitchen, making sandwiches and giving blow jobs. Her abilities would be horrible as well. +1 do nothing -2 do nothing -6 do nothing. Instead liliana of the veil is an amazing planeswalker comparable to jace, the mind sculpter with great art to appreciate.
My suggestion listen to some comedy radio for a while, pandora is free, youtube is free there is something out there for you. ***** go make fun of somebody. The whole world is so serious and campaigning for some cause, or someones rights, everything is a hate crime, racist, sexist. blah blah blah.
"O no mcdonalds must be slandering a hate crime against skinny people every time they make a big mac." hahaha jeeze You're just someone perpetuating another groups negative perspective that they've made you believe is correct. Look at the picture for a hour and tell me what's wrong with it? I don't see anything.
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.
I think this Standard season's constantly shifting meta is a big problem for the financial side of things. I really don't think we've seen prices jump and crash so dramatically, and until Standard calms down and a solid "top tier" is truely found, it isn't going to stop. It's nearly impossible to even speculate at this point, esp with GTC just two months away. Next week Jace could jump again for all we know... Honestly I think the only way to "make money" in this market is to hang on to every staple you have like a horder and wait for the meta to stay the same for more than two weeks.

Someone does this in Legacy with Zombardment creature shell. Its a blast to play he says, but it doesn't make anything better in its regular MUs and makes him worse against his bad MUs. I wouldn't imagine it would be any better in Modern.
Has the redemption period for MTGO begun yet? When can we expect prices to reflect this?

Due to real-life obligations, I am taking a long break from Magic which may include missing the local Legacy GP. Apologies for not being able to keep my threads updated.
The card's most recent move is on right. means no movement. is a card that wasn't on the list last update. This is the update's hottest mover. (#) is price in CND incl. shipping here.
Mizzium Mortars fell below the $3 threshold and there are now 23 cards worth opening in a booster pack.
As you can see, very little movement on the tally, other than the incredibad Sphinx's Revelation moving up to 2nd place. Not only are the cards within the set very stable in relation to each other, but the set as a whole's value is also holding strong.
Here are the price drops of currently Standard legal sets' box values, in their first 52 days. Why 52? Because that's where we are right now in RTR's life cycle. Data taken from SCG (who overprice everything equally, which doesn't skew percentages):
INN -10.0%
RTR -16.5%
DA -17.5%
AR -18.5%
M13 -28.0%
In addition to being the most valuable set of all Standard legal sets 52 days after release, by about 33%, Return to Ravnica has retained box value better than every set except Innistrad - despite being by far the most printed set!
Who knows what the data will show going forward.... but that's where we've been, and where we are now.
Another update as promised: As always my prices come from the low end of ebay buy it nows (emphasis on playset/4). Please note that the prices shown are from a couple days ago, so they may have changed some since then (sphinx's revelation being the exception to the above).
Top valued rares/mythics:
Jace, Architect of Thought: $24
Angel of Serenity: $17
Sphinx's Revelation: $17 (This is getting rediculous, lol)
Vraska the Unseen: $10
Temple Garden: $10
Hallowed Fountain: $9.50
Overgrown tomb: $9
Blood Crypt: $9
Deathrite Shaman: $8.50 (Went back up again)
Armada Wurm: $8
Steam Vents: $7.50
Rakdos's Return: $7
Trosani, Selesnya's Voice: $5
Abrupt Decay: $5
Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius: $3.50
Loleth Troll: $3
Rakdos, Lord of Riots: $3
Ash Zealot: $3
Dreadbore: $3
Detention Sphere: $3
Supreme Verdict: $3
Loxodon Smiter: $2.50
Everything else is worth less than $2
Total Set value:
Mythics: $90 (down $10)
Rares: $85 (down $7)
Common/uncommon sets (ebay): $7
Total set value: $182 (down $17)
Total overall average box value:
Mythics: $27/box (down $3)
Rares: $50/box (down $5)
Common/uncommon sets: $9
Foils: $4
Total overall average box value: $90 (down $8)
Bunch of cards dropped some again, most about 10%, some more than others, some of the mythic value drop was offset by sphinx's revelation shooting way the heck up there. Overall though, the set value and box value both dropped by around 10%, to continue its downward trend, not nearly as crazy as the last update, but still movement of note. Just be warned once again, that we will see a further drop in about a week or so once mtgo sets start hitting the market.
Anyhow, enjoy the update, Ill post again if time allows, but we'll see how it goes.
I'm really happy with the value on this set as well. M13, AVR, and DKA were all sort of a mess.. with chase cards overshadowing others in terms of price/power. This is considerably more balanced.
There are even quite a few constructed playable commons / uncommons which is good because while I feel they pushed a LOT of the power to rare/mythic they didn't go too crazy.
1) Jace Architect of Thought (24)
2) Sphinx's Revelation (20)
3) Angel of Serenity (16)
Jace's downward fall has been halted and he remains unchanged from last update, at 24. Sphinx's Revelation's UPWARD move has also been halted and it can't seem to get above $20. Angel of Serenity lost $3 and looks like it may continue to drop. The dual lands are holding strong at $10 to $12 and Deathrite Shaman seems to have topped at $9 for now.
I'm a big fan of Desecration Demon. I see it as the hellrider of the set where it will rise greatly during the next block after the rotation of lingering souls.
Random observation from today: SCG dropped the prices on a TON of RTR. I see RE's last post had Jace at 24..SCG has him at $20 now. Yes his post is a week old, but all shocks are sub 13 now, and no card is over 20 at mythic.
