I think Coalition Relic is the best card to compare the lantern to and represents the ceiling for the lantern (long term). They are both good mana fixers but the relic ramps you up faster while the lantern makes all your lands into command towers. Both valuable things but I'd prefer the relic to the lantern in most decks (although obviously there is no reason not to run in formats they are both legal in). In some 4 or 5 color decks I'd prefer the lantern though.
Short term it could see some movement sure... but I don't think it will spike either unless it finds a place in standard. I'm not sure it will though as there is a lot of good mana fixing with the shocks and duals out there.
I suspect lantern might also be opened a lot more than relic. The DD makes me cautious about this statement though since I don't know how much that adds to the card pool. Does the DD+future sight = RTR? I don't know but there is going to be ALOT of RTR opened. I myself will be targetting any foils of the lantern though.
Thanks for the update rancored_elf and great to hear that your grandma is doing well!
Looks like it was a good decision to keep Deathrite Shaman and don't trade it @6$. On the other hand, sad to see Trostani fall as I have not been able to get rid of mine yet. Although I traded a Dreadbore and Mizzium Mortars for it, so its not that bad yet.
How great is this with the already amazing fetchlands? How needed is this going to be as the block progresses? Remember Coalition Relic? This is Darksteel Ingot quality, in a rare. One of the best mana stones printed in a very long time. A casual beast. High quality mana never goes out of style. Fixing and acceleration in one card.
Ten bucks a playset seems dangerously low to me. I'm a buyer
The problem is that this set is really popular and the card is confined to casual play. The keyrunes are amazing in constructed in the decks that want the effect, so it's pretty much been sidelined.
The card it is most comparable to is definitely Gilded Lotus. Possible fringe standard play, very important casual card. Capable of maintaining a 4-5$ price long term.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.
The card's most recent move is on right. means no movement. is a card that wasn't on the list last update. This is the update's hottest mover. (#) is price in CND incl. shipping here.
Cyclonic Rift fell below the $3 threshold this update, so now there are 23 cards worth opening in a booster pack.
This is just a quick update to keep on top of things since it's still early in the set's life. Overall a gentle cooling continues from the last update although certain cards are holding fast at their prices, such as Deathrite Shaman, most of the shock duals, and Rakdos's Return. Armada Wurm and Abrupt Decay looked really weak.
I repriced the top 10 or so and found absolutely no change after 48 hours. Box value (according to SCG) remains incredibly stable since the set's release (click).
As we keep getting more stock in, and the meta firms up, many of the mid value rares(mortors, smiter, sphere, etc) are going to drop out like rift. I think the shaman will have longterm prospects in modern similar to noble heirarch.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
My point was more that the top-end for Deathrite was likely not going to be close to Hierarch's current price point due to RTR having a much larger print run. (This will probably change after MTGMM releases, though, given that Hierarch's a no-brainer reprint.)
Kirblar, please don't make spam posts to attack other people here. If you have a point to make, please do.
You mentioned out there are more Deathrites than Heirarchs, but left your point ambiguous. I assume you were going for "... and increased supply equates to a lower price".
So I pointed out that the reason there are so many Deathrites is because there has been MASSIVE demand for this set (you made a thread about this a few days ago), and Wizards obliged by printing millions of extra copies. My point is that yes, there's a high supply of Deathrites, but that won't necessarily plunge their price, because there's also massive demand.
"What is wrong with you?" is NOT a valid response.
there are a lot more Deathrite Shaman played in Modern than Hierarchs
Cool, I didn't know that, thanks. I guess that's bullish for Deathrite's price, especially if it continues for a few years, as has been the case with Heirarch.
Sounds like you didn't catch Kirblar's meaning behind "What is wrong with you?" either.

Supply is part of the equation. Demand can't be ignored though.
That said, I think Deathrite will have lower demand than Heirarch especially after Deathrite rotates from Standard. Heirarch is needed for mana, something pretty much all decks can appreciate. Deathrite is a build-around win condition and might not catch on as a mana-Elf. Heirarch is like BoP.... almost universally sought after, but if they reprint it, the price will collapse.
Kirblar, please don't make spam posts to attack other people here.
I'd appreciate it if you didn't play the "bait and report to mod" game with posts that stop justshortoftheline of insulting/flaming.
The thing about Shaman is that he's not a card with applications in Standard right now. He's all over the place in Modern, but in Standard he's sort of relegated to the sideboard as there a lot of situations where he runs out of gas. I don't see him going any higher than he is right now in the short term because of this. He needs additional "help" in the format to rocket.
I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.

Definitely some settling this time around, and I suspect we will continue to see that as more product becomes available and as the mtgo redemptions begin hitting the market in a month or so. For now though, still the best value in standard by a large margin. Darned impressive. Enjoy the update, and If time allows I may do one more before I call an end to the updates, but if I dont, then its been a pleasure contributing to the market street and these threads :).
Can someone explain why lotleth troll is so low? It's almost a strictly better wild mongrel at a higher rarity. Is it just a fluke, because I can't see why this card would be top tier material.

It's not a very good card to be honest. Discarding to pump a creature is usually card disadvantage. Keeping mana up to regen is counter productive in aggro strategies. There's a lot of exile removal going around right now.

Midrange decks using Thragtusk are running all over the format right now. He's not well-positioned.

For a point of reference, there's not a single Zombie list in the entire top 16 at this week's SCG.
So it's just the wrong environment then. I can see what everyone's talking about with Thragtusk, but I think the troll is a good card to watch. I refuse to believe that such an aggressive and resilient creature will remain unused forever.
Do you think that if Reanimator gets bigger with Gatecrash that he'll see play as a reasonable discard outlet?

Right now it's all about G/x/x + Farseek. With more shocks, much more is possbile with or without green.
