Cracked half of a MM2017 box for fun, I am for sure selling the Tarmogoyf ( i play EDH) and also got a foil Verdant Catacombs plus a non foil one. Sell now the foil one in order to break even my half or keep it? What will be the ceiling of the foil catacomb? I don't pimp my decks so I am not sure I am interested in keeping the foil version.
The downward pressure on foils has been..... extreme. More so that I would have ever imagined. I have two trains of thought. One is sell ASAP. IMO, the better play is to wait 1 year (if you have the patience) for prices on them to rebound. Fetches are the gold standard of lands and are among the safest bets to rebound.
If it were me, I'd hold off at least a year for prices to recover.
I am seeing the trends of lands in MKM and it is... Scary.. So better sell the non foil one to cover smaller margin of initial cost?
EDIT: I am listing the Tarmo now in ebay. Not much of rating as a seller but perfect as buyer.. Any suggestions for a decent buy it now price? ( I sell from Europe)

The best way to determine a fair price for a card like that would be to check firstly what the lowest buy it now for a NM copy of the card is on ebay, and either match or list slightly lower to increase the chance that yours sells versus the others (buy it now/fixed price listing). Otherwise you can also check recent completed listings to see what the card has recently sold for, for additional information if you think the lowest current buy it now price is too high. Otherwise you can also check things like MKM (basically your version of tcgplayer in Europe if I recall), to see what the card is going for on there for additional basis for which to determine a price. I would check each in that order for as much information as possible with emphasis though on simply trying to match/beat the lowest buy it now price on ebay to make yours as attractive as possible to sell. Be careful with the shipping location options though, I don't know how expensive it is to ship cards outside of Europe for more expensive items to make sure you are protected appropriately (tracking/insurance) so you should check on that too so you don't accidently end up having someone from outside Europe buy it and find the cost to securely ship it would be much higher than expected and take away from what you would be getting out of it. Anyhow, good luck, and congratulations on a nice couple of pulls :).
I'd say that your window to sell closed when the announcement was made. Prices on Modern Masters 3 reprints have already softened. Hang on to them - they're near their nadir now, and foils recover pretty well.
Thank you for this. I'll hang onto them and hope they recover a little bit. I almost just put them up for fire-sales. Luckily I'm lazy just enough...
Just pulled foil Cavern of Souls from MM2017. Should I sell or keep? Not sure what to make of the foils in this set.
Reprints the one card that people point to when saying that art objectifies women.
Well done Wizards.
Liliana does not objectify women in any way at all. We have gotten to a point in our society that every single picture of a women must be objectifying a women in some negative way......blah blah blah.. That is not the case. (((Sarcasm)))Picture of a girl drinking a milk shake, must be sex related and putting women down, picture of girl sitting on a beach, picture of a girl driving a car, picture of a girl on the moon at a new space station.)))
You have a picture of an attractive strong power women who girls dress up as for anime conventions. What more do you want? The picture is fine, happy to see a reprint. Sick of of seeing people claim that everything in existence must be putting women down. Then all I have to do is replace the word "women" with anything else to get the same mentality; fish, cats, arabs, blacks, jews, men, environment, whites, chinese, old people, etc. It doesn't matter what word I put in. Stop sucking life out of everything man. That artwork of her is awesome. Stop putting stuff down man. Just stop. If the picture was really as negative as you claim she would totally nude, in a kitchen, making sandwiches and giving blow jobs. Her abilities would be horrible as well. +1 do nothing -2 do nothing -6 do nothing. Instead liliana of the veil is an amazing planeswalker comparable to jace, the mind sculpter with great art to appreciate.
My suggestion listen to some comedy radio for a while, pandora is free, youtube is free there is something out there for you. ***** go make fun of somebody. The whole world is so serious and campaigning for some cause, or someones rights, everything is a hate crime, racist, sexist. blah blah blah.
"O no mcdonalds must be slandering a hate crime against skinny people every time they make a big mac." hahaha jeeze You're just someone perpetuating another groups negative perspective that they've made you believe is correct. Look at the picture for a hour and tell me what's wrong with it? I don't see anything.
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.

Buy MM3 Foil Liliana of the Veil for $125? That's enough that I can't just drop it - I'd need to save up for it. Will there be enough additional MM3 hitting the market to keep that price or even drop it a little? Or is this the best I can do, and I should pull the trigger as soon as I can?

I keep hearing rumors of a second wave of MM3 coming out at some point. Probably between Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation.
Really it comes down to whether or not you believe those rumors. If you believe them, hold off. If you don't, buy in. As an FYI - you can get them for less than that on TCG, and the high end facebook page you could easily snipe one for $110 or $115.

I got it with the Avacyn Restored event deck when it was like a $6 card so I don't have anything in particular tied up in it, but I recently noticed it's spiked. Do we expect continued increase as long as Death's Shadow is a thing?
i was keeping these for some time now, waiting for a possible blowout.
now, the next ban&restrict announcement is getting close, i thought i'll ask if any of these is worth keeping for the long run?
1x Saheeli Rai
1x Saheeli Rai foil
1x Chandra, Torch of Defiance

I'd say that all of them are keeps right now. They're all pretty low and are unlikely to go lower. People are anticipating a ban on Felidar, so I'm seeing prices for Saheeli that are as low as they were before the combo was revealed (within a few dollars). Chandra has another year in Standard and is picking up steam. Basically, you missed the best point to sell them off so wait until the next high point.
Foil Saheeli is a long-term keep. She's got Modern potential, and combos with any number of flickering things to create an infinite hasty army. Double Saheeli and a Sun Titan seems like an interesting thing to do. The others I'd look to drop in about a year, if you haven't done so before then (depending on spikes and what's revealed in the next few sets).

any of these have chance of really high spike?
or i should just sell them as soon as possible?
You lucky bastard. Congrats!
Invocations will fall in the short term. Now is a GREAT time to sell them. Not a week from now - NOW.
Liliana foil seems high - $50? There's no way that she maintains that price. Sell NOW and rebuy later.
Rhonas is currently about $15. He's probably got room to go down, but of the listed cards he's the only one that I'd consider a possible spike on. I personally don't think so, but I won't say that he won't spike. Take that with as much NaCl as you choose.
This is so much the opposite of my normal advice, but at the prerelease is a great time to move cards, even ones that seem like long-term holds. This advice will expire on Thursday, though.

should he sell it or wait at least a few weeks?

Immediately after the prerelease is almost always the best time to sell. It's the same advice I gave you about Liliana. There's really no way that he spikes (prerelease foils are at $78 TCGMarket right now!), so sell it now and buy it back in a month when it's down to a more reasonable price. Ally of Zendikar foils dipped below $30 even though he was clearly the hotness from the set. rials is good, but he's not significantly better than AoZ, so his price should follow a similar pattern.

I have a playset of FUT Tarmogoyf that I want to sell, but I`m in no hurry. I kind of bet on them not getting reprinted in MM17, and it didn`t work out. Do I hold on to them until after the MM17 reprint has cooled off, or is that not a plan because retailers might sit on a lot of MM17 and release it gradually over time, steadily declining the Goyf price further for the next year or so until a new reprint approaches?

Hold. 'Goyf is really low right now. I guess that's a bet that he won't be in Iconic Masters, but it's not a very iconic card, just powerful.

I got an Amonkhet bundle pack, and in the last booster there was a Force of Will. Yea, I know.
Its price has dropped, but to buy one you still need around $200, possibly a little more.
I checked out online stores' buying prices, and they offer around $100+ per copy. Not really interested in keeping it forever in the off chance that someone will offer me a bit more to get it. Should I get rid of it now or hold on to it, ya think?
So. My first question is, Athens GA or Athens Greece? Because if you're in the EU, a lot of my comparisons go out the window.
I'm seeing completed listings in the $160 range, by which I mean $150-$170. So, I'd say that $150 is a good target price for an eBay sale. Take off 15% for eBay/PayPal fees, a couple bucks to ship, and you're looking at $120 cash in your pocket. Round number. So my second question is, what's your timeline look like? Do you think that you'd be interested in holding it for the 5-ish years that it'll take to really go up in price? Because for the next several months, at least until the fall set, there are just going to be more and more copies opened, and the price will go down. Probably not a ton - I really don't see it under $130 - but it'll drop a bit before it rebounds. Will it be the best FoW out there? No, not unless they release the Judge foil in wider circulation - that's the pimpest. And with something else as the pimpest, that puts a ceiling on what your invocation can do, financially.
Third question - what's your format? Do you go to big events at all? Generally, trading with players > store credit, because you'll be able to trade it at ... TCGMarket says $165. If you have a list of cards that you want to get, you can do it better that way.
So those are your options. In order to opine further, I'll need more info from you about your priorities and your MTG habits.
Me, I'd keep it. But that's me.

So recently I sold a bunch of solid cards that were worth $1.000+ because I was in desperate need for money asap. That changed last month and hopefully things will stay this way for quite some time, so now I'm not in a hurry or anything. I still have quite a few valuables, like Ancestral Vision x4, Damnation x4 (plus 2 MM3 ones), Through the Breach x3 etc., and I was thinking of keeping them in order for their prices to go up. Especially the Damnations have dropped since they were reprinted in MM3, so not a smart move to get rid of them now I reckon.
I used to play a bit more competitively, but not anymore. Just a veteran that likes to play casual with a friend or two. So not really interested in trading for big cards and stuff. Commons, uncommons and a few rares that I may need for a fun deck I want to build, I can easily get from MagicCardMarket and other places very cheaply.
So since I am willing to keep the above cards, you reckon I should hold on to the FoW too, eh? 5 years does sound like a lot of time, though. What's your opinion about the other cards I mention here? I also have Tarmogoyf x1, Liliana of the Veil x1, 3-4 MM3 fetchlands, Cavern of Souls x1, and the Red and Green gods from Amonkhet (also got them from the same Bundle that contained the FoW).
Okay. So definitely bear in mind that the market is different in the EU than in NA. Some cards are "stickier" in one market than in the other, some are softer. So some of my observations are probably going to be more americentric, just because that's where I do most (but not all) of my trading.
That said, looking at the BFZ Expeditions, the two-year trajectory looks ... not great. They started off strong, but then have been trailing off. There's been mostly decrease or stability. Now, as the playerbase grows (and we're all basically betting on it growing), more players with money will come in and try to pick up these blinged-out cards. Supply for Expeditions is now static - nobody's opening more BFZ, so no more are coming onto the market - while demand will slowly grow. That's why I'm predicting five years to see a real increase. Demand isn't going to take off quickly, since MPS cards don't appeal to most of the playerbase, only the top 5% of spenders (number pulled out of, let's say, a hat).
As far as your other cards, I think that Ancestral Vision is a good card to move, not sit on (I moved most of mine earlier this year). Same with Through The Breach. All the MM3 cards are holds right now, since the prices just got hit, but in general I don't hang on to Modern cards anymore (except for lands, because I want to cast my spells - always have at least 4 of each land). Especially in the last year, WOTC has demonstrated that they're willing to reprint non-reserved cards, and the market has responded by dropping their prices once they get reprinted, even if they get reprinted in Conspiracy, which doesn't get opened very much. I'm keeping playsets of all the cards that I need for my Affinity deck and the rest get traded. So based on your replies, I'd actually say sell the FoW, since sticking it out for 5 years to try to grind an incremental advantage doesn't seem to be your thing. I don't know what percentage MKM takes, but prices there look like about 120 Euro, minus their cut.
Make sense?

So basically sell the Visions (which are from the Time Spiral set btw), Through the Breach and FoW and hold on to everything else. Sounds like a plan and yes it makes sense.
I agree too about the MM3 cards, except maybe Tarmogoyf. Its price has been on a steady decline and I believe it's at an all time low right now, regardless of the set. Should I keep that too? I don't see how it's going to rise significantly in the near future?
Also, about the lands. Like I said, I only play with one friend on a regular basis, and occasionally with another one. We've agreed to not use powerful/super expensive cards in our decks, it's mostly casual and fun play. Imagine something a bit stronger than a peasant deck, that's our regular thing. So other than waiting for their prices to rise, there's no real reason to keep the fetchlands or Cavern of Souls, since there's no way I will ever use them in a deck.
Fair enough. My friends and I have a similar gentleman's agreement, except we encourage the use of powerful lands so that everyone will gradually build up a versatile collection that could transition to competitive play, since we all occasionally flirt with the idea of GP competition.
As far as 'goyf goes, it is at a record low. It's still a powerful card, though, so I think that people will be buying in now that it's at $70 and not $200. It won't recover to $200, but I think that this time next year it might be at $85 instead of $70. That's just a guess, though - definitely depends on what WOTC does to try to hammer the price. A MPS 'goyf in Atzlan would definitely push it back down, maybe even to $50. So yeah, that one's more of a shot in the dark.

Would it make sense to sell Leovold, Emissary of Trest now? I posess one normal copy and one in Foil. Since the card is banned in Commander, I don't have any use for it. The recent price development is quite irritating and as far as I know, the only format he is being played in is Legacy. I don't know much about Legacy any more, so maybe someone here has some advice.
Regular Leovold is a sell. Compare him to Dack Fayden from original Conspiracy. Short print run, sees eternal play. Stupid expensive foil, creeping nonfoil. The ban in EDH makes him more comparable, since Dack isn't really played in that format (planeswalkers tend to draw too much heat in multiplayer). Bear in mind that he'll get reprinted, maybe in the next Eternal Masters, maybe in the next Conspiracy. The nonfoils will drop; the foils will maintain value.
That said, he's not really going up from $220 in the near future, so feel free to sell the foil if you have no use for it. That's a really long-term hold if you're going to do that.

So I set aside the cards to move and the cards to keep. The verdict:
Hold: Everything MM3 (including Goyf -you convinced me-, LotV, Cavern and the fetchlands).
Although I did bump into some opinions on the interwebz according to which Cavern of Souls will likely drop -maybe significantly- in the near future. Can't remember the justification exactly (something like 'they'll figure out it's not that good of a card and therefore it will see diminished play'). Sounds kinda silly, but what do I know.
I know I may sound repetitive, but I'd appreciate your opinion on this and the fetchlands in general.
So, a couple things.
First, Death's Shadow was reprinted in MM3, which crashed the price to $4. Since it's currently part of the best deck in Modern, it's not going to go down any time soon. At $4, it's not really worth it to sell, since it'll keep that price even if the deck eats a ban. People have discovered that it's a good card, so even if it gets banned people will buy in as speculation against an unban. So I'd hold that.
Second, anyone who says that Cavern of Souls is going to drop significantly needs to get their head examined. It's not that the card isn't as good as people think that it is (it may well not be), but the card is a casual darling. It both color fixes and Insists for tribal decks, which are one of the more popular casual tropes. Plus WOTC decided to upshift it to Mythic, which really helps to maintain the price (rares in Masters editions get hit hard, mythics, especially four-of-mythics, not so much). That card's a definite keeper, at least until the fall. I will acknowledge the nonzero possibility that it gets reprinted in one of the tribal EDH decks that are coming out in August, but WOTC doesn't like to put $30 cards into $35 box sets. It's more likely that it'll get reprinted in Iconic Masters, since that's supposedly a tribal set. However, it's got time to grow between now and then. If I had an extra one (I traded my last spare for some Standard cards to help my friends take down Game Day), I'd probably hold it until right before HasCon, when speculation for IM is hottest. Even if it is reprinted again as a mythic, I don't see it crashing. It's just that good. See Doubling Season - it's just a super-popular card.
As far as the fetchlands go, they're still soft from the MM3 printing, so I'd hold them for probably another year. It's possible that WOTC is going to try to spam them in Modern Masters sets, so next winter is probably a good time to move them if you're worried about that. They haven't announced Modern Masters 2018 yet, so they may be doing another Eternal Masters, or they may just be making us wait. Until they announce, it'll be hard to tell.

Do you think I should also hold on to Ancestral and Breach and move them during the fall, along with Cavern? Just to prepare one large shipment instead of many smaller ones. I also have Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir x1 and Gauntlet of Power x1 that I can add in there.
First off - I want to echo Knick's advice. He's 100% spot on in my opinion.
Second - Ancestral and Breach are high value cards primed for a reprint at any time. Those cards likely won't see another major uptick until the next Modern season in the fall since that is where most of the demand comes from. Hanging on to them between now and HasCon likely will have very little impact on the value since the market for modern staples doesn't generally move much at this time of year (excepting reprinted cards like those in MM3). Your choice to hold on to them between now and then, but I don't believe you're going to gain/lose much by moving them any time from now up until HasCon.
As for Teferi and Gauntlet of Power, those are more casual and commander cards. Their market will remain steady until reprinted. Same advice as above - you'll probably be fine until HasCon. The difference is that if they are reprinted, the price will tank. If they aren't, they'll continue to plod along.
/edit I forgot to mention that the reason I believe Ancestral Vision and Through the Breach are unlikely to be printed in standard sets between now and HasCon is because the mechanics (Suspend and Splice) are unlikely to return any time soon.

I agree with seal.
through the breach and goryo's vengeance are a little harder to reprint outside of a masters set because of the arcane subtype. I wouldn't expect a reprint until MM 2019 unless they put it in iconic masters which doesn't seem a likely place for it.

I got it with the Avacyn Restored event deck when it was like a $6 card so I don't have anything in particular tied up in it, but I recently noticed it's spiked. Do we expect continued increase as long as Death's Shadow is a thing?
now, the next ban&restrict announcement is getting close, i thought i'll ask if any of these is worth keeping for the long run?
Aven Mindcensor invocation
Liliana, Death's Majesty foil stamped promo
Rhonas the Indomitable normal
any of these have chance of really high spike?
or i should just sell them as soon as possible?
This advice will expire on Thursday, though.
i know, that sometimes promos end up cheaper, but this is a special case.
should he sell it or wait at least a few weeks?
Immediately after the prerelease is almost always the best time to sell. It's the same advice I gave you about Liliana. There's really no way that he spikes (prerelease foils are at $78 TCGMarket right now!), so sell it now and buy it back in a month when it's down to a more reasonable price. Ally of Zendikar foils dipped below $30 even though he was clearly the hotness from the set. rials is good, but he's not significantly better than AoZ, so his price should follow a similar pattern.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
Doomsdayin'
Hold. 'Goyf is really low right now. I guess that's a bet that he won't be in Iconic Masters, but it's not a very iconic card, just powerful.
Make sense?
