It looks like launch party Sudden Shock is going around $5-$6 a piece across the board right now. I'm completely unfamiliar with promo prices, so does this seem like a good time to get rid of mine? (I hear some people don't like the promo version, but I think it looks awesome.) For that matter, how about the card generally?

As far as the card itself, it looks like the price took a sudden shock and gained $2 in early December. This close to yet another Modern Masters set release, I'd definitely move any copies that I could.

I'm considering trading into a set of Chalice of the Void. I may have an opportunity to turn one of my three Liliana of the Veil into a pair. I don't own Goyf, so Jund/Junk are out of the question and my other lists have only run 2 Liliana, so while it's trading down heavily it's still something I'd consider.
Question is: how do we expect this to go with potential Modern Masters reprints? I imagine Liliana will probably get a reprint since she was planned to be in the M15 core set and later dropped (which would explain her absence in MM 15). I don't think the Innistrad printing would lose much value (see Tarmogoyf); if there's an upset and she's not in it, she gains quite a bit. If Chalice is reprinted, I imagine the new printing is down about $10-$15 from where it sits now, whereas if it's not printed, I'd expect it to hike up even further. That being the case, since I think a Liliana reprint is likely and a Chalice reprint feels kind of 50/50, I'm leaning towards going ahead with it.

rogue_LOVE, your reasoning is sound. Remember a few things, though:
- MM printings did almost nothing to Tarmogoyf and other high end rares that came as mythics in the Masters set.
- Chalice of the Void is less likely to come back than Liliana, yes, but would come back again as a rare, which would do much more towards reducing the price.
It all boils down to your needs, though. I think having 3 Lilianas is way more "playable" than just 2, because even if you build something like 8Rack (a lower tier deck, but cool) or straight up BG (now a possibility after Fatal Push), 2 Liliana is too few. Also: Goyf is pretty terrible in Modern now (or, at least, "it's at its worst ever") and can/would be replaced in Abzan/Jund decks going forward.
I think you should get the Chalices if you want/need them for playing because they will spike a lot if the reprint doesn't happen, and the reprint is unlikely. And I would also keep the Liliana.
I'm considering getting some foil Tron lands, but feel like they are way overdue for a reprint in a Modern Masters set. They have got to be making an appearance in MM17, right?

While they are overdue for a reprint, I don't know how much a reprint will affect original foil prices. The original foils usually don't drop much if at all. And if they're somehow excluded again, they'll spike (I guess? How much can they really spike? They've been printed like five times). So I'd proceed on the plan and look for deals.
Unless you don't care about having the original foils and just want "some foils", in which case I'd definitely wait. No way that MM3 foil Tron lands are more than $5 each.

personally for me if i were to go for pimp tron lands it would be one of each antiquities art. So in that sense i dont think the 8th ed foils are all that special and a reprint would hurt that.

Personally I concur that the AQ versions are favorites, but AQ Tron lands are a couple bucks each while foil 8E Tron pieces are in the $35 range, so a lot of people disagree with us

what do you guys think about CoCo? they're 60 a playset where i live and frontier hasn't picked up at all, should i sell while they're high? i don't see them getting more expensive
My view on ordinary* cards is, if you're not playing with them, don't hold on to them.
So there are three possibilities, right?
1) Frontier doesn't become a thing. The hype goes away, and prices go down.
2) Frontier does become a thing, but it doesn't explode immediately. The price stays relatively stable until 2019, when it's eligible for a reprint in Modern Masters 2019.
3) Frontier does become a thing, and everybody wants in now. The price of all great Frontier cards goes through the roof.
If you think Option 1 or Option 2 will happen, sell them now. If you want to gamble on Option 3, go ahead and hold, but I'll point out that it's already 2017 and Frontier isn't a thing yet. Remember that Modern was pretty slow to take off, which is why there wasn't much MMA to be found - they printed to existing demand, not to "Wow, this format is going to become really popular!" demand. I'd sell into the hype, because odds are you'll get a reprint before Frontier takes off.
Does not apply to promo foils, first edition foils, masterpieces, anything on the reserve list, or anything printed in 1993.

Gifts Ungiven is an unusual card for me. I have this bad habit of buying/trading into a set...then using them maybe a few times, then selling/getting rid of them. Then having the bug to try again and buy/trade into these cards again...

Reprints the one card that people point to when saying that art objectifies women.
Well done Wizards.
Liliana does not objectify women in any way at all. We have gotten to a point in our society that every single picture of a women must be objectifying a women in some negative way......blah blah blah.. That is not the case. (((Sarcasm)))Picture of a girl drinking a milk shake, must be sex related and putting women down, picture of girl sitting on a beach, picture of a girl driving a car, picture of a girl on the moon at a new space station.)))
You have a picture of an attractive strong power women who girls dress up as for anime conventions. What more do you want? The picture is fine, happy to see a reprint. Sick of of seeing people claim that everything in existence must be putting women down. Then all I have to do is replace the word "women" with anything else to get the same mentality; fish, cats, arabs, blacks, jews, men, environment, whites, chinese, old people, etc. It doesn't matter what word I put in. Stop sucking life out of everything man. That artwork of her is awesome. Stop putting stuff down man. Just stop. If the picture was really as negative as you claim she would totally nude, in a kitchen, making sandwiches and giving blow jobs. Her abilities would be horrible as well. +1 do nothing -2 do nothing -6 do nothing. Instead liliana of the veil is an amazing planeswalker comparable to jace, the mind sculpter with great art to appreciate.
My suggestion listen to some comedy radio for a while, pandora is free, youtube is free there is something out there for you. ***** go make fun of somebody. The whole world is so serious and campaigning for some cause, or someones rights, everything is a hate crime, racist, sexist. blah blah blah.
"O no mcdonalds must be slandering a hate crime against skinny people every time they make a big mac." hahaha jeeze You're just someone perpetuating another groups negative perspective that they've made you believe is correct. Look at the picture for a hour and tell me what's wrong with it? I don't see anything.
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.

According to TCG, these Masterpieces together are roughly $90 in trade value. So my counterquestions for you are -
"Do you go to GPs or other large events? What's trading like at your local store? Do you like trading?"
Basically, if you think that you'll be able to move them for more relevant cards, then don't take the store credit offer, as you're passing up on $20. If you hate trading, or if your store doesn't have people who have Modern cards for trade (this seems less likely after MM17 hits the streets), or if nobody has ever expressed interest in those particular Masterpieces, then go ahead and take the store credit. I would personally hold them, since I tend to hit up 3-4 GPs per year, and you can always find someone who wants what you have at a big event. If nothing else, you can probably move them for MM17 reprints in a couple weeks.

They are $82 total on TCG Low. Getting $72 store credit is actually a really good deal, especially from a store. Likely better than just selling on a facebook group and having to eat shipping.

He asked about trading them for store credit, which is why I brought up other options. It's never just between
A) Keep my cards
B) Store credit
There are always the options of trading with local players, trading online, or selling online. I thought that the OP should consider at least trading locally as another option, since it's possible that he could get more bang for his buck if he did so. Maybe the OP had already considered that and rejected the option for any of a number of valid reasons, but I don't know that. Store credit is not usually a good first choice. This is a pretty good store credit offer, but if there's a vibrant trading scene at mid, or if he goes to big events where there's usually a vibrant trading scene at mid, or if he's comfortable spending &2.50 on postage to trade with Seal, he'll end up with more Modern cards than if he went the store credit route, and that's the stated goal - more Modern cards. I want to get him closer to his goal, not just evaluate the offer in a vacuum. If the stated goal had been "I want to build up store credit for some Moden Masters 3 drafts", then that's a totally different question (to which the answer would probably be "yeah, go for it").
Does what I'm saying make sense?

He didn't say that he wanted to trade to other players. And honestly trading to other players is always obvious option that it shouldn't even need to be said. He wanted to know if he should sell his cards for the store credit he was offered, I said that's a good deal from the store, and that should be that.

Okay, I think that we've both explained our (different, but valid) philosophies enough that people are starting to get bored of us, and neither is going to persuade the other. Let's leave it there, and hopefully the OP has enough advice to make a decision.

If nothing else, you can probably move them for MM17 reprints in a couple weeks.
Agreed! If all you're doing is looking for modern cards, I think you should try to trade them away! If you haven't traded on this site, you can do so here as well. I have most of the modern staples and would be willing to trade them to you for masterpieces at fair market value. Send me a PM.. We might be able to make a trade.
They are $82 total on TCG Low. Getting $72 store credit is actually a really good deal, especially from a store. Likely better than just selling on a facebook group and having to eat shipping.
Yeah, I was using Market, not Low. I've found that most people prefer to trade at Mid or Market.
OP wants to end up with cards, so I asked leading questions about trading. Perhaps I should have added "Do people at your store trade at Market or Low?"
He's not trading to other people at the store. He's trading them for store credit, clearly means he's trading them into the store.
I'd say that your window to sell closed when the announcement was made. Prices on Modern Masters 3 reprints have already softened. Hang on to them - they're near their nadir now, and foils recover pretty well.
