Hi all, I don't frequent the trade sections much, but I have recently run into a minor issue and wanted freedback from more experienced traders.
I have recently bought a playset of foreign cards off of a certain auction site; it is not my first foreign purchase, and none of my other foreign cards have especially bothered me.
However, this auction was for a set of Chinese Grave Titan, and the cards themselves seem a bit weird to me. For one, they feel as if they might be slightly lighter, and they also seem a bit more slippery on the front face. I've compared the back of the card to other MTG cards I have, and don't notice any issues with color/fonts/printing, and the colors on the front seem to be normal as well. Other Chinese cards I have purchased appear to be normal in every regard, but these ones still feel a bit slippery to me.
Does anyone have specific directions as to how to test if the card is a fake? Preferably without damage?
This is something I have noticed is often the case with foreign cards. It is possible that they are printed differently for export/shipping purposes, or some such. In any case, having bought booster packs of other languages (clearly legitimate) the cards came out of the pack much as you described, a bit slippery on the faces.
Just for information for every product produced on different machines on different places (countries, continents etc.)
It doesent matter where or what product you're producing on two different (but identical at the same time...) the product produced on it, is allways different. Sometimes you can see a small difference and some times not.
Foreign cards do have a real tendency to feel different. I opened up some Jap scars boosters recently and they seemed to have an almost waxy finish on them. I'm not sure if they are produced at a different facility, or perhaps run on a different machine within the same facility, but they're definatly different!

If you're really concerned, grab a jeweler's loupe. Many card shops carry them and you can actually look at the side of a card to check for a sandwich effect for the blue line. This is the ultimate test of authenticity. Every Magic card printed by Wizards will have a blue line in the middle of it, rip any land in half and you'll see it! However, if you look at the side of a card under 10x magnification, you'll see it as well, without having to rip it!
Hope that was helpful!

To be honest, the chances that anyone is going to counterfeit a card with that little value are zero to none.
Even at it's absolute peak, Grave Titan never reached a price that would make anyone even consider it. Much less in the lower than English price Chinese printing.

Apathyhouse has a guide on how to determine real/fakes, and if you don't have a loupe or the knowledge, a high resolution scan (post on the forums and ask) is sometimes sufficient to tell if a card is fake

I was just going to mention that. I feel like this link should definitely be looked at by anyone interested in having the ability to determine a fake vs authentic card.

That might be the issue then. All the other Chinese cards I have are pre-M10, these ones are after M10.
I'll look into giving one of them a bend test when I get home today.
Thanks guys!
