From what I've read, Pro Tour Austin had another HexDepths deck show up in the top 8, and 12 of them show up in the list of players who recorded 18 or more points within 10 rounds.
SCG is buying Depths for $5 apiece, CardKingdom is paying $9, ChannelFireball.com is buying for $20 each.
It seems despite the easy hate, it's making a pretty decent showing.
Holy hell! I just checked it like yesterday i think and it was 13 dollars on MOTL. now its showing 27 on motl. Anyone who would pay that for it is nuts.
I would actually hang on to these if you have them. They'll probably settle around 20$+ each, since they came from a set that nobody wanted to buy lots of, will never see a reprint, and have lots of constructed appeal for legacy and extended, not to mention EDH / casual.

It's not easy to hate.
It's clear some of you haven't played a competitive Hex Depths build. And no I'm not slamming anyone, as it has more or less made its debut within the past week.
The combo itself doesn't require any kind of complicated interaction which leaves the deck plenty of room to maindeck plenty of anti-hate (a turn 2 Chalice takes care of PtE's and Needles assuming the Needle doesn't hit first, and even so...Depths has maindecked Explosives). The combination of its ability to hit lightning fast with plenty of tutors and main board access to options against hate makes it far more versatile than it looks on the surface.
I'm no expert on Extended (I played a Kavu Justice deck for god's sake), but it feels like the new TEPS (not a literal comparison), but with a longer shelf life figuratively, and literally.

I agree. I've seen the reports on the PTQ where Paulo Vitor de Rosa (spelling) played and it seems like it is definitely more than a "flash in the pan" as it has good protection and good tutor effects. Also about 10-15 players there played the deck, so that says something about it. Read on WotC.

Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)

Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)
all good points, and despite myself thinking they will settle around 17ish, i am selling them. The hype for it right now is just nuts, and as good as a combo it might be, or is (and it really is a solid combo from my testing) i dont think it will get any higher than the price is right now
I wonder if Diabolic Edict will start getting played in Legacy because it deals with the Marit Lage token AND doesn't get shut off by a turn 2 Chalice. Food for thought.

You do realize that, by default, the combo produces two creatures, right?

Yea. I played the deck twice at the Pro Tour in Austin, and got smashed for being a sideboarding failure: Kibler's sideboard is absolutely perfect for the meta (his SB anticipated combo...course, that's why he's a pro and I'm a scrub)- it's crazy to think Rubin Zoo is actually better (and by a wide margin) than last season's Zoo.
I don't see Depths fading so quickly as combo decks often do. But it;ll be interesting to see how players adapt and if they can answer it better: the first game is practically an auto win, and that's what makes it especially strong.

Now we just have to see if this combo can make a impact on the vintage scene. Can't wait for a matchup vs SteelCityVault or Bob'sTorm. Probably just a solid combo in legacy and extended. Either way I can't see this card dark depths dropping like a rock anytime soon.
My thoughts,
S.M.
I guess I was wrong about the deck being overhyped. It's putting up some good results now. I would still sell Dark Depths however. $20+ for the card is insane.
I think some people don't understand that the Mirrans are the bad guys. Arcbound Ravager is Mirran. Phyrexia are the good guys coming in to conquer an evil, evil world.
Since it is so easy to get a solid $20 for it, I sold mine since I only had 1. I guess it could make for an interesting random gifts stack in a deck, but that just seems silly.

I am looking for Date Stamped promos from Khans of Tarkir block so I can finish my set. Check my wants if you have any.
Currently offering 2 non-foil Kolighan's Command for a Date Stamped foil!
Would u guys crack open a box of Coldsnap in the hopes of cracking 1 or 2 Dark depths??
Draft it! Drafting coldsnap once or twice is quite fun. Cracking is a bad idea. Drafting is a bad idea, too, but at least it's a fun bad idea that might make you better at Magic. Open a foil one!!

When it released, I opened 3 boxes and found 4 DD. The problem was that the set had pretty bad colation, or at least my boxes did. I got 4 (or more) of some rares and 0 of others. A set with better colation should have yielded 1 to 3 of each.
I agree with the draft option. Have fun with the packs. Then, even if you get 0 DD's, you didn't waste your money.

I'm drafting the box I got for $66 shipped tomorrow. I'd probably draft any box I could find if I could get that price or lower. But then again I actually happen to like Coldsnap draft.

You mean the token and... the OTHER token? Sign me up!
I love it when people use the winking "i told you so" emoticon when they're wrong!
You need to sac the Hexmage to get the token, sir.
