So basically I have just started investing into MTGO with modern Abzan Midrange. That being said, I have refrained from purchasing Verdant Catacombs and Marsh Flats because I fear that they will drop to the prices of something such as Windswept Heath ($3) if announced in DTK. I'm not sure how the market responds to announcements, because I do not want to wait all the way until the release of DTK to pick them up, but I also do not want to buy them now and see the Zendikar ones drop if they are announced.
I don't believe the Zen fetches are in DTK, but I would still wait until DTK comes out on MODO to pick up your Zen fetches. Usually prices on Modern cards drop with a new set release.
If you're that worried about losses, I wouldn't buy into Modern right now, and DEFINITELY not the Abzan deck. If you think a fetchland announcement would be bad, just wait until Goyfs are in MMA2...

Too late already picked up everything besides the fetchlands. I suppose I didn't necessarily think about MM2, but I also didn't have the patience or need to wait all the way until MM2. But yeah, I appreciate that, then. I can wait until everything is spoiled and such.
I recommand you take 4 Verdant Catacombs. For the other fetches, you just play KTK fetches.
MODO cards are of no collection value. You don't invest. You play instead.
Return to Zendikar announced, fetchlands have gone down. I would wait a day or two and then go ahead and buy your Catacombs. I think this is kind of an over-reaction by the market, people will need to pick up their fetchlands again to play Modern. The fetches are also not 100% guaranteed to be in the fall set (okay, they are probably in there).
The problem with investing in Fetches now is that buy prices are significantly lower than sell prices (bots are minimizing risk with likely reprinting).
Not sure if buying fetches is a good idea right now unless you need them - you certainly will be losing value if you plan to sell them back.

I think this is sensible.
Keep an eye on bots however - one may try to get a high turnover by having the most competitive prices around rather than taking an "I do not want to hold these cards at all" mentality.

I agree - people still need the cards in the short term and the market will balance to the initial reaction. Return to Zendikar is still 5 months away, and with Modern Masters releasing in a few months and a couple of high profile Modern events coming up, there will still be a decent demand for the Fetches.
Scalding Tarn for example already has begun to climb back up over 25 tix since the initial overreaction to Return to Zendikar's announcement.
With either reprint the long term spec 3 years after reprint is up. If you are going to play with them in the next 6 months just buy them.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
