Hey everyone, I don't play modern much so I don't keep track of prices much but
Last I looked Snapcaster Mage was 45-50$ range. When and why did it jump up to 70-80$? Just curious if there was a certain deck that made this happen or what?

I think the reason it's gone up so quickly is that so many of the staples for UR twin were printed in Modern masters 2015. (Vendilion clique, splinter twin, remand etc.)
All the people who pulled those cards are looking to put them to use but the number of snapcasters remains the same. Demand is higher than supply currently.
there is no reason to buy the card for more at your LGS if you can get it for $20 cheaper online.
Except, y'know, helping your store stay open, and getting the card now instead of next week. (Pro tip: Your tournament entry fees are not keeping the lights on.)
It's one thing if there's a huge disparity between the price you can get it for online and the price your LGS is charging (and obviously buying from your LGS isn't an option if the card isn't in stock). But for smaller differences, your community is better off in the long run if you buy local. Also, if you're regularly buying stuff at your LGS, chances are pretty good that the LGS owner will be willing to do things like make deals with you based on the knowledge that you'll buy more stuff from him later. The online suppliers aren't going to do anything like that outside of maybe giving you refunds when they make mistakes.
Its $100
(not counting tcg or ebay, those don't count)
And a couple weeks ago. Not in Modern Masters combined with modern season and a few choice buyouts.
Being a multi format all star helps too.
TCG and eBay should certainly count because there is no reason to buy the card for more at your LGS if you can get it for $20 cheaper online.
I think you underestimate how many people don't even buy online. Scg sets the market price, they are sold out at 100. Almost every local store has it at 90-100. The odd person grinding ebay listings, bidding and getting it at 85, plus waiting 2 weeks does not reflect any real numbers at all.
Snapcaster Mage will get better and better if they keep printing good instants and sorceries with small mana costs.
We can pretty much assume they will continue to do that, so we can surmise that Snapcaster is going to get better and better every year. Thus his price will only fall if he is banned or reprinted. Banning is unlikely, but theoretically possible. Reprinting of a card of this cost and with a non-evergreen ability (flashback) is unlikely at high volumes.
My expectation is that we see this as a Grand Prix promo, and/or in the next Modern Masters as a rare that helps sell the set.
Im so glad because i own 19 snaps and 12 sealed boxes of Innistrad. Bought him for 13 - 16 bucks 2 years ago. Im really getting wrecked if he gets banned.
Except how is the price going down? A reprint isn't happening for 2 years. And likely at mythic because modern masters 2017 certainly hasn't been sent to the printers/WotC can see the $100 price on SCG, CFB, etc. etc. and say "hey we don't want to upset players by tanking their 'investment' put it at mythic like we planned anyways because it's in the same class as tarmogoyf, clique, liliana of the veil, etc. etc." That being said if the guy buylists him for 75 per copy and just keeps a playset it's hard to go wrong since his profit margin is obscene turning 240 into 1125 and 240 means a price of 16 per snapcaster upon purchase.
Hit 100 because he hasn't been reprinted and is a 4 of in the vast majority of blue modern decks and blue is the best color in modern so...
Grand prix promo is quite unlikely for a card priced this highly. Could be a RPTQ promo like liliana pretty easily but that doesn't affect price at all.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
And you guys will totally value it at $68 if you traded it to somebody right?
Trading and paying cash are two different things. If you are trading a Snap for other cards, most use SCG prices. If you are paying cash, you should always use tcgplayer low prices to median prices. The only time you should pay full value for a card is if you need immediately, like that day. Also, most local shops use scg prices mostly for credit. However, if you haggle with them when paying cash, they will usually price match at tcgplayer low to median prices. And fwiw, I just bought 2 mint copies of Snapcaster off ebay for $60 each, using buy-it-now, about 10 minutes ago. Shop around. Just my .02.
Thats great, im happy for you.
Ive been sitting on sets for 2 years, and i've decided to sell. My local stores sell at 100, buylist at 70 cash, 85 credit.
If you can buy all day at 60, trade them at 100 value (say for duels, or other liquid cards) then do it and make a killing. If not, just get your set and be happy. I hate scg as much as anybody, so when someone asks what somethingd worth, more often than not they are going to reply with scg prices. Its topped out at 100. Can be bought for 10 cents if you look hard enough. Is it worth 10 cents though? no, is it worth 100? probably not. Lets just agree its in between.

Except I don't agree it is in between. Again, cash and trade are two different worlds. When people quote scg games prices, they are not quoting cash. They are quoting trade.

You don't have to grind ebay, about 2 seconds on tcgplayer will get you a way better deal than $100

Keep them in business? What about keeping money in your bank. Generally if someone buys all of their stuff on Ebay, theres is no deal in the world a LGS could give you that would save you close to that amount. I do most of my shopping on Ebay, but I do support one store, because he does beat Ebay pricing for me once in a while. Not sure if hes considered MY local store, because hes 40 miles away but w/e.

I'm not denying that you can get cards online for lower prices than you'll ever see in your LGS, but Valanarch said "there is no reason". Two reasons are: helping your store stay open, and getting the card immediately.
I bought mine at about $30 apiece when Innistrad first came out. I kept mine when he rotated, even though I just got into modern this year, since I play a lot of blue even in casual and he can go into pretty much every blue deck because he's just so good

To date, the total number of times they printed something at Mythic in a MM set that was originally printed as a rare in a set that had mythics... is 0.
As in, the only Rare-to-Mythic transitions they've ever done are for cards that predated Mythic rarity.
If they do this for Snapcaster, it will be unprecedented. Which doesn't make it impossible, but it sure shouldn't be the foregone conclusion you seem to represent it as when it's never happened before.
If they were so inclined, they could've Mythic'ed up Noble Hierarch, Spellskite, Splinter Twin... but they didn't. They kept all rares reprinted from sets that had mythics ... as rares.

Why doesn't TCG or EBay count, if I might ask? Those are pretty much the best two sources when finding the actual buying and selling value of a card.
