Well, this guy just shot up and is now sold out on lots of sites. Anyone see a reprint in the near future or should i release him while he is at a high?

Hmm, I haven't noticed any significant increase lately. He's been at the current price for awhile now and it looks like stores have plenty.
Most likely reprint is a dual deck. That won't happen for over a year though, if at all.
I didn't think he has been $10 for a long time. It's been a while since I've seen him in that price range and thought he was stable at $20-ish. But maybe I wasn't paying attention or something.

I'm pretty sure he was $12 a month or so ago.
Since I had all of the cards except 2 more Karn Liberated for Karn Tron, I decided to go ahead and buy 2 of them. I got 2 on Ebay for around $25 shipped.

Karn's lowest peak I noticed was like 10-13 (Tcgplayer low) for a very very brief time just about during rotation.
He shot back up shortly after though as those dumping their standard supply because they only play standard were easily snatched up.
Looks like they were selling consistently on ebay at around $15 at the end of December, and have been rising slowly but surely since then. About 10 days ago they were allready up to the 18-20 range on ebay completed sold listings.
I think its more to do with a gradual rise than a sudden jump like some of the cards we have seen in modern and otherwise of late.

Karn Liberated is just a solid card in Modern and in Commander. No surprise it's going up. Might top out around $50 in a year or so.
I am curious: what makes you believe it will top out at $50? Will its being played in Commander and in a deck in modern and legacy really drive the price to that level?

It's a mythic. If Modern continues to be popular, it can rise even higher. I don't think it will see 50 yet, but it is a solid deck in Modern and most of the rest of deck is comparatively cheaper. It's an easy starting point.
I can see Karn in a duel deck eventually, but nevertheless being a mythic, in a small set, it can see 50. I think it'll probably be 30 the rest of the year honestly.

I just want people who redraft to admit this:
"I can't draft objectively unless I am able to guarantee that I receive at least 3 rares. I am also better than most average/new players so I want to make sure that I get the best rares and they end up with worse ones. I care more about the monetary value of cards than actually playing the game for decent prizes."

It's a mythic.
It's a planeswalker.
It's colorless.
It's nostalgic.
It's got a unique effect.
It's actually good.
It's got great art.
It's not in Modern Masters.
It's bounce-back from rotation was fast and steep.
It's widely played in Modern.
It's widely played in Commander.

WoTC, thank you for finally announcing the Modern format, an eternal format where everyone can participate.

If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
Karn see's fringe legacy play at best. He's an auto 4 of in tron decks in modern though, as turn 3 karn is the nut high if it resolves and stabilizes your board position. He's another reason jace can be unbanned; karn simply eats jace and then restarts the game and starting out with a jace in play on turn zero is the most broken thing in magic probably other than like blightsteel.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
It's awesome getting a turn 2 Karn with Metalworker or Grim Monolith.
That being said, it did shoot up rather quickly. he has to be a candidate for a reprint in a Modern Masters set eventually at the very least.
Wonder how high he'll get. 40 probably isn't out of the question, but I don't know if he'll push 50 quite yet.

Modern master consists of cards between Alara reborn and 8th edition. Karn is disqualified on those grounds.
That said, WotC loves planeswalker duel decks and Karn has a good chance of being reprinted in one of those. There is also the annual commander products that Wizards promised which has a good chance of containing PWs

He said "a modern masters set", meaning that we can probably expect more modern masters sets along the line, like we did with the Masters Edition sets on MTGO.
As long as they choose new art as they do with Duel Decks his current card should hold some good value for reasons already mentioned.
Also FWIW, most of the major sites which don't list on magiccards.info are sold out with Karn at $40. SCG currently has 1 left for $44. Someone is buying them up...

I'm not sure they're going to do Modern masters esque sets frequently. Based on the history of products printed by wizards, they prefer to print stuff that caters to all crowds and include reprints of certain crowd pleasing cards (hence the success of duel decks and commander). Modern master is probably a test for wizards but I doubt it will do as well as duel decks or commander.

Emrakul? Grove of the Burnwillows and Wurmcoil Engine aren't exactly that cheap either. It's one of the cheaper Modern decks overall though.
