I'm going through my buddy's cards, but I'm 7 years out of the game, myself. I'd like to be able to cull the usefuls from the useless, and was thinking that a list of common/uncommon values by set would be a good way to go (would help me spot random outliers like remand-$4!!).
I can get set lists from magictraders.com, but they include rares, and I'd prefer to be able to filter these out.
any ideas? thanks!

Here are the little self-imposed guidelines I'm working with for the multiplayer decks I've been building:
• Must be cheap. Total price tag < $100, preferably < $50. Ideally ~$30. No one card greater than about ~$6
• Format: Modern (makes getting the cards somewhat easier for the play group, and almost all my cards are Modern-legal)
• Must be relatively interesting in 1:1 games. I don't need to win against Splinter Twin, but I should be able to play duels now and then
• Avoid instant-win combos; they only serve to make me target #1, and then the deck is worse than useless because I get killed first, every time
• Must have a funny name!

The ark42 page is a great resource, but may I recommend the Advanced Search function of Coolstuffinc? Here you can: Pick the sets you want to include/exclude, pick the rarities you want to include/exclude, AND you can set your own price threshold.
They are reputable in the industry, and as a whole probably a little cheaper than SCG (although not always, and as a whole not as cheap as other retailers like Channelfireball).
But, they're my preferred website when I want to generate lists of cards by their value.
