ooc: this quest is Avatar of Kokusho/Deraxas and me as storyteller only. If any other posts here except for the before mentioned members or any of the other WPLs of the RPG that post will be reported, and if you have a character on this RPG, that character will not be spared. Thank you.
Riae had sat down on her bed as Deraxas rummaged through her stuff. Now that they were ready to go she stood up again and nodded "Let's go... although... I have no idea where to go... I guess I'll just follow you, no?" She let out a slightly nervous chuckle.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

This is Deraxas we're talking about.
Remember, the girl that just killed an aspect of herself before literally consuming her?
Yeah, I don't see her handling a pissing match in any way other than a duel.

I suppose it's true. Though the logistics implied in a human/Great Wyrm Prismatic Dragon pairing makes me shudder.
...Something tells me that even should all arcane casters in the world unite, that the Grease spell would NOT be sufficient.
Riae follows, and as they head into town Deraxas can again see her look around with anxiety clearly readable in her eyes, she carried no memory of anything of this with her... the world was frighteningly big for her, full of strange things of which she did not know if and how she should approach them...
As they passed through the merchant quarter and she saw the many people doing there daily shopping around the many stalls, trading coin for various products, Riae's natural curiousity won from her anxiety, and she looked at Deraxas questioningly "What are those people doing?"
Deraxas stifles what would normally be one of her standard smartass remarks and answers, "They're buying and selling. I don't have any gold, since I bought spell gems, so we're out of luck. Fortunately for us, we don't need much- I'm pretty good at coming up with what I need when I need it." She looks away, towards the mountains.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

ooc: what mountains? There are no mountains anywhere near Estark as far as I know...
Riae nodded in understanding as they moved on through the crowded streets "So they... trade one thing for another thing right? And wait... spell gems? What are that?"
Before Deraxas could give an answer however, someone bumped into her, a tall, muscular guy judging from what she could see before she rolled over the street, gasping for air because it was all pushed out of her lungs by the crash. Whoever the jerk was, he just walked on as if nothing had happened.

The guy ignores her completely, apparently finding her too insignificant to react to. Some of the passers-by looked at the scene briefly before walking on.
A small hand reached out for her to take, and as she looked up she stared into the face a kindly smiling Riae "You okay?"
"Ow." Deraxas stands and brushes the road dust from her hands. "I'm okay....a bit irked, but okay." She checks her possessions to make sure she hadn't been robbed.

All was still there, luckily, it seems the guy either just didn't see her or was looking for a fight, but hadn't been out to rob her, not that there was much to rob anyway...
Again nervous because of all the stares that went into their direction as people passed by, Riae looked around before saying softly "Let's just go, I don't really like it here..."
"Let's go, then." Deraxas proceeds onward. "As I was saying, there are people with the ability to focus their connections with the world in order to create specific effects. This is called magic, but it's really very natural. I use what is called black magic, which deals with life and death. To focus these energies, mages use gems that are encoded in a special way." Deraxas looks doubtful. "Understand so far? I'll demonstrate after we're alone."

Riae nodded "I get it... a bit... But I don't know what to imagine with it, so I'll wait for you to show me."
Moments later, they arrive at the northern gate, and Riae she smiled "Let's go find a place where we can be alone then!"
Deraxas noticed that the girl was feeling better now, perhaps because of the fact that they were almost outside the city's walls, the air smelled a bit fresher here...

"I don't know what exactly to expect... but I can't image it being worse than this place." Riae said with a smile as the two girls walked through the gate, past the guards who for a moment stared at them, probably wondering where two girls of such a young age were going, but they let them pass.
Once they were in the open field, farmland stretching out to almost as far as their sharp elven eyes could see, Riae looked around again, then towards Deraxas with a questioning look "Where to now?"
"Well, Lord Korlash said that the mountains were north, which is this way. What we seek is beyond THAT, so we'll see what happens once we reach the mountains."
Deraxas nods at Riae's outfit. "You're at least sort of dressed for travel, so maybe you're a mage like me, even if someone cut you off from your world..." She snaps her fingers. "I promised to show you. Watch." Deraxas slowly allows the image of a pale flower to appear, and draws from its essence to summon one of her hapless (and helpless) bats.

With curiosity and astonishment Riae watches the summoning, like a child watching fireworks. For a moment the girl is simply awestruck, then she knows to stammer "H... how... how... how did you do that?"
"Um... well, I just kind of... the best way I can say it is that I remembered the place where I first learned to feel power, and it came to me. Then I used the connection I have with the gem to give the power a form and a name." Deraxas shrugs, a little embarrassed. She sends the squeaking thing away and nods. "Let's not linger here; wild animals sometimes are attracted to mana, and I have to defend us both."

"It's just that I don't feel entirely comfortable here... We're still so near to that... how do you call it again?" Riae asks as they walk down the road leading from the north gate through the fields towards the horizon.
"City." Deraxas continues north, ensuring that she moves at a pace comfortable for them both. "Its name is Estark, but I don't know too much about it, as I am from... elsewhere." Her eyes darken a bit. "I just know there are the five Houses, plus a vast sewer network... that place was interesting... but really, I talk too much. Sorry."

"No... no, no, it's fine, I like to talk... I think at least..." Riae said with a slight smile, but clearly doubting her own words, having no memory of anything prior to encountering Deraxas was clearly difficult for her. Yet she seemed very happy to have at least one companion, she had avoided everyone but Deraxas... it felt strange to her, but maybe Riae saw her as more than just friend or companion... family perhaps?
"Not to all people though..." the girl continued "... actually... only to you... I don't know any other people..."
"I don't know, I tend to put people off with my worldview, and then there's the stigma associated with black mages..." Deraxas shrugs. "You can't judge people on what you see. I just learned that. See, if you were from... where I'm from, you'd call me eyeblight, cause I'm not normal. But here they call me beautiful... so it's just perspective. Ugly is in the act, not so much the face..."

Riae nodded "I think you are right. You know Deraxas... I think you're really smart, and beautiful too, and not only physically. And whatever others might think, I think you're really kind, you're a good person..." she smiled again, she stared at Deraxas for a moment longer before looking up into the nearly cloudless sky, wondering "That's just how I see it though... still, I guess my worldview is unspoiled by others, perhaps that's a good thing... perhaps it's not that bad that I lost my memory... or is it?"
"I...." Deraxas sighs. "You need to know who you are, you know. And, I'm not a nice person, not at all. Vengeance.... It is part of me." She shakes her head. "Riae, you remind me of me, but not, at the same time."

"I guess you're right... but... if you truly weren't a good person, you wouldn't be here helping me, would you?" Riae said, with another slight smile she added "And no two persons are the same, I think..."

The two head for the gate, adventure on Deraxas's Mind.
