A small team of wizards are needed for this acquisition task. The Lat-Nam Wizards have discovered an artifact which they would like to add to their library. It is a Jayemdae Tome blessed with an unusual aura of magic. We wish to retrieve this tome and return it to their academy, so we can study it.
The tome is contained within a watchtower on the outskirts of the Skirk Ridge. It will be guarded by ogres, giants, goblins, and maybe even spiders. There are two entrances to the tower, and recent scouts have confirmed that the place is more complex than it seems. The reward for this quest is one blue Creature spell from the current standard. This quest has a maximum of two participants, minimum of one, and requires members immediately.
A human woman named Shikari guided Nannex and Kant on the backs of two Wind Drakes, and departed in the evening, heading towards the Skirk Ridge. She gently spoke with them, but only of tactics and the task at hand.
Gentleman, you must proceed with caution. Not only is this keep guarded by the inhabitants here, but also we fear that the person in control of this region has been trying to keep this artifact hidden from us for some time. The monsters here are dangerous, and maybe even other enemies are afoot in these grounds. Use wisdom and caution. It is likely you two must work together well for this mission to be successful. Use your heads.
Terra, Final Fantasy 6. Mods greater than I say you must find the music yourself, if you wish to have a feel for this point.
Under the cover of darkness, the two wizards touched down. Shikari stood by. I will be here for when you complete your mission. If the mission proves to be unsuccessful, immediately retreat, so we can recuperate. Proving yourself is one thing, but this mission is for infiltration. We do not wish to provoke any more enemies than we require.
Shikari stood back, and pointed them towards the east side of the tower.
Nannex moves about a hundred feet from the landing point towards the tower quickly, and returns, fidgeting nervously. "I do not like thisss. We have no time to ssstudy thisss place. Feh! It bothersss me isss all. But ssstill..." He turns to Kant. "Perhapsss we ssshould take a moment and become familiar with each other. I can admit we have not been properly introduced." He folds his arms and bows deeply "If you did not hear before my name isss Nannex and at the very leassst you can count on my ability to deal with any..." He narrows his eyes and glares at the tower. "Sssimpletonsss we encounter. But how can you bessst aid our expedition?"
Kant carefully reaches into his bag and pulls out a paper roll, stuffing it carefully with herbs and keeps his eyes on his work while he speaks. "Well you can call me Kant... I think we must not only precede with caution... but with a plan. I say we use the cover of night and see how far we can sneak in. I can suppress the powers of any mage who tries to meddle with us... do you have any suggestion to our course of action?" He finishes and folds over the ends of the paper roll. Putting it to his lips, he lights it and lets out a small puff of smoke, adjusting his hood to cover his face as best as possible and then turning to his shivian companion.
Nannex stands up straight and folds his arms, closing his eyes as he emits a slow hissing sound as he thinks. Finally, after a few moments he nods and opens his eyes. "Asss ssstupid asss the goblinsss may be we should not confront them directly. What if I sssummon a drake to ssstir up their forcesss and dissstract them while you make your way to the tome?"
Temporarily or permanently, trading is indeed allowed. I'll allow you guys a bit more time to discuss. When you're ready, say so, and you will approach the East side of the tower.
"Hrm... yes that would work for anyone outside of the tower... but hells if we know what lies in wait for us 'inside'...they did mention this place was more complex than we first thought..." Kant inhales deeply from his herb roll and lets a long drag out smoke out from his mouth. "I do believe a distraction would be quite useful... but I think we would both need to try and get inside... if either one of us went alone and got into trouble, it could be dire."
Nannex nods in agreement, bowing his head and rubbing the sinuses along his forehead. "True. Have you a way to conceal usss then? If we cannot dissstract our foe we mussst avoid them. I am afraid my magicksss are not attuned for petty thingsss like combat." Nannex opens his bag and discusses at wider length what magicks he can offer and then wanders off from the group a bit, though not far enough to be out of hearing range of common talking volume (about thirty feet) to try and see if he can notice anything of interest, then returns.
Nannex notices some jagged rocks here and there, but for the most part the path leading up to the East side of the tower is a clear dirt path. In the darkness, Nannex makes out some figures near the entrance. However, it is too far and too dark to make out what they are. All that Nannex can tell for sure is that they look relatively small.
"See anything? They do have two entrances... we should try and find out which one gives us the path of least resistance...and I do suggest we hurry." Kant grabs the sides of his old blue cloak and wraps it closed around himself as he walks slowly, trying to see if he can spot the other entrance.

Kant spies 4 tiny armed figures rushing towards something in the distance. There is a set of rather large shadows following those smaller figures heading off into the distance. Unfortunately, there isn't much light... what he does know is that these figures are now heading west, away from the tower. Did he hear a muffled, high-pitched shout?
On the side closest to them appears to be the main entrance to the tower, with only a few short figures in front of the entrance. They are armed with spears which outdo the height of their wielders, but not by much.
Nannex quickly skitters to catch up with Kant. "Yesss... move quickly." He squints, moving his head side to side and inspecting the terrain "They are leaving, look! Move quickly and we can be in and out before they come back. But we should be sssilent. We don't want the othersss to come back."
The two stealthily walk along the south side of the tower towards the west entrance. Upon closer inspection, it appears to be a back entrance, as the doorway is relatively small. However, the door is covered with a couple of layers of thick spider webbing.
Additionally, there is a rather large figure looming nearby who was heading away from the tower, but has now stopped and is looking around. Both the viashino and the human are close enough to know that it is a Bloodrock Cyclops.
EDIT: To be perfectly clear, what you saw with the two armed littler guys is on the East side of the tower.
Nannex freezes and drops low to the ground, hoping to find cover behind something but still slowly reaching his claws into his bag and fingering his gems. He whispers as quietly as he can "Sshshshshsh... if he doesss not hear usss he may keep moving."
Nannex quickly picks his head up and then drops back down. "They are gone, now we go before they return." He turns his head towards Kant "Are you ready human?"
Kant inhales deeply from his herb roll and lets out a final nervous breath of smoke. He nods and motions his hand forward to his companion, moving carefully now towards the tower.
Nannex watches him get up and sits there for a few moments, his tail flicking back and forth as he sits motionless for a few moments and then all of a sudden leaps up and moves quickly to catch up with Kant, all the while lying low and hidden. As they move he often stops, and then catches up quickly, as if almost incapable of moving slowly but rather preferring to remain motionless or as quickly as possible in a hidden manner.
On this side of the tower, you are faced down by a rather large and sticky-looking spider web with a couple of different layers. Are you going to try to do anything about it or just try to walk through it?
Kant grumbles for a moment and turns back to Nannex. "Any ideas? Might not be safe to touch it..." he whispers. He quickly looks around to find a loose rock to try and throw at it.
Nannex skitters up to Kant and mutters something in a series of hisses and murmurs, frantically digging through his bag though he appears to be more handling the objects within and thinking rather than searching or perhaps just keeping his hands busy as he considers. He pulls out his Boomerang crystal and holds it up. "What do you think? We could cut it with our daggersss, but we don't have the time." He proceeds to cast Boomerang on the web, hissing the incantation in a low growling tongue.
When the boomerang is cast upon the spider web, a component of it fades into the AEther. The spider web has partially gone back from whence it came.
...And then it seems to regrow slowly, as if being recast.
Kant finds a loose rock on the ground large enough to test the webbing. He throws it at the web, but finds that the rock actually gets stuck in the web before actually breaking it down any further.
GM Note: One use of boomerang used up for the next encounter. Also, good to see you guys thinking
EDIT Also: My apologies if I went a bit far ahead by having Kant actually throw the rock. If you wish to take back the action, that's fine.
OOC: no it's all good, I was planning on throwing the rock actually :xd:
"Damn it..." Kant mutters. "It seems to be magical... try that again Nannex, but this time I will be ready..." He reaches into his pouch and pulls out his Cancel gem, keeping it tucked under his rober waiting for just the right moment...
Nannex hisses in irritation at the web and flings another Boomerang at it, if Kant's magic fails to stop it's regrowth he will quickly try to make for the door before it can fully regrow.
