So, I've found that Jace is at his most compelling when he is doing Blue things. Go figure. He actually seemed *gasp* kind of cool in the Shadows Over Innistrad trailer. He's deviating from his original reason of being on the plane because he just has to find out what the meaning of the strange happenings on Innistrad is, he's displaying an insatiable curiosity. Very Blue. I like it. However, upon being reminded of Jace's home plane of Vryn I also remembered that the game is planned to go to Vryn at some point and it would be reasonable to gues that the creative team likely wants Jace to be apart of that story.
The problem is, how will that be tied into everything else in the ongoing storyline? I ask this because, to my knowledge, Jace has never actually attempted to delve into his origins and find out exactly where he came from. Which seems... Strange to say the least for a Blue character. The same Blue character who is also currently investigating strange things on Innistrad because of his curiosity(and also probably in part to stop the madness there and save the plane). Of course, I could be wrong and if I am it woudl.be great for someone to point me to a place in the lore where Jace has tried to explore his past. It's strange that this seems so forgotten about(teehee) as, in my opinion, Jace using all of his free time to try to find out where he comes from would be a compelling and interesting element to his character.

Didn't jace Mind Sculpted himself erasing all his memories?
If so, I don't know what you want by him looking for his past. He could have come from any of all the planes of existence... that looks pretty hard to nail down. Also he can't openly discuss about that with everyone, there are planes where almost everyone doesn't know about there being planeswalkers (most of Ravnica, Theros, etc.).

Would you like to read Commander stories? Check my latest stories, coming from Lorwyn and Innistrad: Ghoulcaller Gisa and Doran, The Siege Tower! If you like my writing, ask me to write something for your commander as well!
Also, I might think that maybe he left some sort of mental warning for himself to not go to his home plane. His tendency to get distracted might be a way of diverting his interestes, giving himself something to do since he can't go home.

It's not really clear how much he cares, and he's very well aware that he's spent a ton of time selectively mindwiping himself, as per the Return to Ravnica plot.
Besides, he's not going to go look into his history when he's in the middle of trying to track down an ancient Planeswalker to help stop a crisis.

According to Agents of Artifice, Jace is actually aware of at least some of his origins (he mentions Alhammaret by name, and knows that bad stuff went down with him). He was just living on Ravnica at that point, and what's more he's probably a wanted criminal on Vryn. Besides his parents, there is nothing there for him.
What's more, he'd actively be putting his family in danger by returning to them, with all the enemies he has accrued.
I believe Jace may remember some details of his home, but in general he can't remember specifics such as its name. Besides the fact that essentially the current Jace was 'born' on Ravnica. He views it as his home.
It's entirely possible that when we eventually head to Vryn that Jace is involved for other reasons, not knowing at all that this is his home, and over the course of the block discovers his origins.
I just hope Alhammarret survived because there's a bunch of stuff Jace did that only he remembers, so he seems like he'd be a good source of plot if we eventually go to Vryn.
I don't know if 'forgot how to breathe' equals death. Just not long ago Gideon 'drowned in mud'. It's probably just a creative way to describe a devastating defeat.
