One of my friends and I were talking about possible directions the story could take, and somehow Ob-Nixilis randomly came up. All I know about him is he was a planeswalker who got stuck on Zendikar due to the abnormal mana all over the plane. Did anything else really happen with him at all in terms of storyline or is he supposedly still on Zendikar? Because my friend is a huge fan of him and would love to see him come back stronger later on, possibly free from Zendikar and getting his Spark back. Anyone think there's any possibility of this or some other way for him to come back into the plot?
He wasn't mentioned at all in the Zendikar storyline. He's one of those random flavour filled cards that they throw into sets now and then. People like them, but they don't relate to the storyline at all. I highly doubt we'll ever see him again. At least, I highly doubt they have any current plans to use him.
I disagree. I'm pretty sure if or when we return to the Zendikar/Eldrazi setting that he'll play a role and maybe even gets another card. The reaction on him was thoroughly positive and his story is too juicy not to follow up on.
This is what I was thinking actually. I mean, with the state of things at the end of RoE as well as the Eldrazi being the sole reason Gideon is on Ravnica in the first place. it seems just totally improbable that we won't come back to Zendikar at some point.
I'm in agreement that I believe he'll play a larger role in the return to Zendikar story. I mean, I know there's flavor cards thrown into sets for filler space and whatnot, but I can't see Wizards just outright saying he's a walker who's trapped on Zendikar right on the card, then turn around and drop him from the story entirely. Who knows, maybe the Eldrazi won't be resealed and instead escape the Hedron matrix and that could give Nixilis his spark back.

They very literally said that they had no further plans for him at the time. The entirety of his story is on the card aside from the fact he's pre-mending and was trapped as a demon when his spark was burnt out.
They just used him as worldbuilding. He was never going to be part of the story.
Now, if he'll be relevant if we come back... Who knows?
I'm sure Ob lost his spark because he was corrupted from using too much of zendikar's mana. The Flavor text was world building and used to show how unstable Zendikar's mana was. So unstable, that if you weren't careful it could damage the wielder of it permanently. Even Planeswalkers.
Now why they removed mana burn the previous set if they had wanted to show this danger, confuses me. I'm sure that was done for mechanical reasons though and not flavor reasons.

So is the family in your sig, and to my knowledge we've never seen any more of the Sengir's

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
We know that he's a former planeswalker trapped on the plane and pissed about it. Being a demon we know he's still fairly powerful, as well as capricious and petty. We also know that he's trapped on the plane with the Eldrazi, who also want to get away from the plane for new feeding grounds.
It seems fairly likely to me that when we see WotC return to the Eldrazi storyline, it may very well involve Ob-Nixilis finding a way to travel to other planes, a way that would also turn the Eldrazi loose, and then using it just because he doesn't care about the multiverse at large.
Maro often says "never deny cool things"... so it's likely Wizards would remember good reaction on "unplanned" character if Zendikar will be revisited and would give him role this time around.
Due to the Eldrazi eating up all the mana on Zendikar, it's possible that whatever weird effect was had on Ob Nixilis might be undone. He could either reappear as a PW in Zendikar: Nibbled Upon, or turn up mysteriously in some other set along with some Eldrazi who tailgated him through the Blind Eternities.

That's... not what happened to him.
A plate won't become whole just because gravity has ceased its active effect upon it.
It wasn't an ongoing effect, it was a one time deal.
This is way out of left field and probably shouldn't even be said because it is more fanfiction than speculation, but since Ob lost his spark, does that leave a hole in his soul? Think of the story possibilities of that: a creature with an incomplete soul, a void, if you will. Who is to say this void isn't "hungry" and, like a black hole, can and will absorb the pieces it is missing from any nearby victims. How awesome would that be? A villian that is a spark stealing demon, desperate to regain that which he has lost. That is just one possibility of such a unique creature in the multiverse.

That does seem really flavorfull and works well with a demon. Nice

A demon plansewalker backed by enslaved eldrazi spawn....i feel that Nicol Bolos would be a little put off by that lol.

The effect could prove so discombobulating to combo players, in particularly, they may fizzle and run away screaming. "From that day the Curse of the Plateau was upon me, and I found every hand I ever pull from a combo deck is a mulligan."

We've had oblique references, but it isn't the Sengirs keeping them from showing up. It's Ulgrotha itself and the horrible reputation Homelands had.
